That's the same with me when I was a kid I wanted a javelin my friend said bustings camaros and they say why you want that ugly car. And I would say because it's bad a**
Love it. Took a bunch of work and love. I justed finished my 1969 AMC AMX 390 GO PACK WITH EVERY OPTION AVAILABLE. NICE JOB KEEPING THESE WORKS OF ART ON THE ROAD.
I don't recall the SST grille on the 71 having the 1970 AMX style "insert" lights, but it's a GREAT look. I love the SST grille better than the standard flat AMX, way more character from the protruding point and target emblem. I REALLY like the blacked out "t-top", makes it look like a "hovering roof" bar - a tribute to the futuristic concept stylings of the late 60's/early 70's (Hot Wheels custom style).... nice treatment overall!
Totally agree. 1971 SST grille is so much nicer to look at than the "AMX" flat screen type. even the 1972 SST egg crate grille is pretty cool. i think the protruding turn signals we see here are from what was under the flat AMX grille.
I was a Warranty Service Tech at an AMC Dealership in 1972. I was assigned a job to solve window air leaks on a Mark Donahue AMX. Dang, I had to test-drive that car 5 times to isolate the leak!
i’ve had all the windows and regulators out of this one. getting them all to work harmoniously was quite the job. i kept thinking there is no way they came off the assembly line correct. 😂
I remember liking both the Hot Wheels and the Matchbox versions of this model of car. Looks like they just bought it off the lot. Looks like a lifesized toy car.
Sounds awesome, damn shame AMC went under. They were ahead of their time with the 4 wheel drive Eagle. We had a Rambler American wagon, you couldn’t kill it.
I am going to look at a near sister to this car this morning. A Mustard '71 Javelin SST 360 that has been morphed into an AMX clone, very similar to yours but with the AMX grille. Came from the factory with Machine Wheels shown on the window sticker, has the grill and hood stripes. I am interested in doing the roof with vinyl decal to mimick your real vinyl top as I love that look and I was already thinking about blacking out around the taillight panel if I end up buying this car and the side stripes you , correct or not, also look good. Well done. Nice car.
These cars are actually very small in person I was surprised by that fact when I saw one of these at a car show a few years back. It had the 401 big block and 4 speed Hurst shifter. I bet alot of muscle cars got murked by these 401 AMCs back in the day.
Side stripes are wrong for a '71, those used on the '73-'74 Javelins (not AMX), hood T-stripe wrong for '71, one shown was used '72'-'74, coolant decal doesn't go on the center hood latch support, that was only on the '68-'70 cars, it belongs on the radiator plate right side. Roof vinyl is correct grain (Boar Hide) most people get that wrong, you have the AC on, can hear the "tick tick" of the York compressor running. Exhaust sound is perfect, the typical low rumble from an AMC 401. Good luck
LOL. how observant. you're my favorite kind of guy at the car show. the one that shows up in the wifes sedan, and rattles off everything that's incorrect.
@@MrZcotty I'm the original owner of a '72 Javelin AMX, have pampered my car since new, anything not OEM or not as it left the factory sticks out like a sore thumb. I'm not interested in judging points, only that a car be correct. I should park my '72 next to yours sometime at a show and see who's car looks like a rattling frankenstein sedan?😃
@@MrZcotty Henry might be correct on the hood T stripe as I believe the original that was pictured in the 71 brochure was changed for production AMX's. The current T stripe and the one pictured in the brochure are both available today. Just try and be a little nice to our fellow AMC friends, we are few and love our cars. Just so you know, I too am an original owner of a 73 AMX, ordered it new March of 73, took 7 weeks to build and ship to the dealer. @@MrZcotty I almost NEVER change my mind about things like this but after looking at many '71 SST pics which I've never done before - the AMX hood stays !!
I believe in 1971 a total of 24,812 Javelins were built, of that number only 2,054 were the Javelin AMX. The cowl induction was very rare, only 369 AMX's were ordered with the Go Pac option at a cost of $476.00 to the sticker price for the cowl induction. The cowl induction worked so well that some state that a horse power increase of 7 to 8 % can be realized. Unfortunately AMC had to build 35,000 Javelins a year to just break even, it's easy to see why AMC lost money on the Javelin every year except, 1968 and 69, more so with the restyle of 1971. There was some talk at corporate of killing off the Javelin after 1972, with a restyle of the Hornet as the new Hornet AMX option with only a 304 two barrel or 360 2 and 4- barrel AMX package. Nothing ever came of this as AMC was committed at this point in putting $60 million into the Pacer program, and that just about put an end to any future AMC had as a company.
The paint 🎨🖌️ is good, but if this keeps it's manual transmission and you I stall an electric ⚡ motor along with some Tesla Battery 🔋 modules the. This thing will become a killer!

God i love these cars. They're just so different from literally everything else out there and they're just too cool for school.
Beautiful car! I had a red one just like this in high school. The 71 grill was BA!
this is nice this is when the javelin put on some weight got wider and the bonnet got longer.

double thumbs up bro!
we put the expanded metal grill in the attic. although correct,
we too like the deep grill. and modern running lights.

Sharp nice color everything fits you got good taste which I don't see much of.
Perfect street machine stance.
Pah-leze re-post when done! Looks tasty man. What I would do to have one of these bad-boys... 401 with cowl-induction - rare...fast.
Nice, love the lines and color.
thanks again man. yeah this color ive fell in love with. wasn't too keen on it when we found it, but it sure has grown on me.

I had one. Mine was white where this is orange. I paid $5400 brand new. Drove it like I stole it most of the time. What a rush!
looking back, how much bang for buck was that!!??😋
I love the Javelins. Not the normal seen muscle car but still bad to the bone.
The music is appropriate ! ,

Hard to Believe the 401 is a Small Block Weighing 34lbs more then a ford 289 small block one of many Innovations by AMC !.

This is not an AMX. It's anSST made to look like an AMX.
it’s absolutely one of less than 400 original amx’s delivered as such. don’t pop off like you know stuff, by looking at trim levels.
