It is true that we have similar musical instruments in China, Korea, and Japan, but each rhythm and range of notes are very different. We hardly find similarities.

I found this video searching a concert called Rokkasen in Thailand back in the 90s of Chinese, Japanese and Korean musicians playing together traditional asian music as well as European Waltz. I knew at the time how special the concert was, there is no place for me to experience it again. I wish I could share how unearthly and heavenly the sound of the harmony was.

Hear me out: Shamisen was metal and full of surprises in all ways; and Erhu was almost divinely peaceful and soothing, and sometimes somewhat playful.. and don't even start with when they do their trio at the end, that is just another realm; like, it is a heavenly combination of so different yet interesting note ranges and musical traditions that slowly built up to one singular harmony; which is beautiful and special to the ear, but also metaphor worthy ;) !! Also, I don't understand the absence for any specific appreciation for Daegeum alone in the comments here; it sounds so beautiful, somewhat eerie and is almost like no other wind instrument I heard before, .furthermore, it just has that specific Korean touch that is exclusive to Korean traditional music, which really underrepresented in modern media.

These instruments are all very different so I'm confused why they didn't directly compare their equivalent for each country. Well, I pick the Chinese instrument this time. 아무래도 힘있는 소리를 내고 공명을 키우기 위해 개조를 많이 거친 악기다보니 개량을 거치지 않은 대금이나 샤미센에 비해 바이올린이나 첼로의 음색에 익숙해져있는 현대인의 구미에 더 맞을 겁니다. 얼후의 원형인 해족 악기는 해금에 더 가까운 거친 음색이었을텐데요 해금을 수입해온 한국인들은 거친음색을 그대로 남겨놓았고 한족들은 해족악기를 본인들 취향에 맞게 감상적이고 매끄러운 느낌의 음색으로 바꾸어 놓은 것이죠

三味線も二胡も대금(デグン？)も全部すごい綺麗な音色だけど、個人的には二胡の音色は川の流れみたいに緩やかに流れていきそうな感じがして一番好きかも。

Hear me out: Shamisen was metal and full of surprises in all ways; and Erhu was almost divinely peaceful and soothing, and sometimes somewhat playful.. and don't even start with when they do their trio at the end, that is just another realm; like, it is a heavenly combination of so different yet interesting note ranges and musical traditions that slowly built up to one singular harmony; which is beautiful and special to the ear, but also metaphor worthy ;) !!
Also, I don't understand the absence for any specific appreciation for Daegeum alone in the comments here; it sounds so beautiful, somewhat eerie and is almost like no other wind instrument I heard before, .furthermore, it just has that specific Korean touch that is exclusive to Korean traditional music, which really underrepresented in modern media.

it's like seeing the clothing history of China, the kimono is essentially Tang Dynasty, the Hanbok is Ming Dynasty and the Qipao is late Qing Dynasty..

These instruments are all very different so I'm confused why they didn't directly compare their equivalent for each country. Well, I pick the Chinese instrument this time. It's a beautiful instrument that I can never tire of hearing.
That being said, the Shamisen has the most distinctive sound. You immediately know Japan's in the house.
This is beautiful, display of hope that once again East Asia can be one some day and we can stop fighting amongst ourselves.
세 악기 모두 훌륭하지만 역시 외국인들도 그렇고 중국 악기인 Erhu 얼후가 가장 반응이 좋네... 다루기 어려운 만큼 확실히 소리가 다르군요
아마 외국 미디어에 가장 많이 노출된 아시아의 소리라 그런거 같기도 하네요ㅎㅎ 세 악기 다 듣기 좋네요!

들어보면 바이올린 같이 소리나 강약이 섬세함
아무래도 힘있는 소리를 내고 공명을 키우기 위해 개조를 많이 거친 악기다보니 개량을 거치지 않은 대금이나 샤미센에 비해 바이올린이나 첼로의 음색에 익숙해져있는 현대인의 구미에 더 맞을 겁니다. 얼후의 원형인 해족 악기는 해금에 더 가까운 거친 음색이었을텐데요 해금을 수입해온 한국인들은 거친음색을 그대로 남겨놓았고 한족들은 해족악기를 본인들 취향에 맞게 감상적이고 매끄러운 느낌의 음색으로 바꾸어 놓은 것이죠

I played the erhu for almost two years now(including this year) and I would say she Ate!!feel proud of erhu players❤😝Also,love the sound of shamisen, Japanese instruments makes me feel impressed how "random" melody can sound so cool and beautiful😍
사실 반드시 다르다고만 볼수 있지는 않아요. 지금 보여지는 악기들이야 완전히 다른 악기들을 들고 와서 그렇지 전통적인 Double Reed(태평소나 피리)같은 중국 한국 일본 같은 걸 비교해보면 매우 비슷해서 놀랄수 있습니다. 물론 그걸 음악으로 표현하는 방식이 나라마다 매우 차이가나지요. 결국 악기도 악기이지만 그보다 악기를 다루는 사람이 그 전통과 문화를 표현하는 차이인거 같아요.
All the way chinese always been obsessed with chinese and Japanese traditional music. Japanese traditional music sounds like the background music of an ongoing war, while the chinese traditional music sounds like that people were overcoming from the grieving feelings of the outcome of a war, starting for a new beginning. The korean traditional flute sound, sounds like the beginning of harvesting time.
