Theyre talking about "young people" as if they're a different species
For them we are, im not even that Young, but we hace grown in such a bizarre world from any past generation.

If I remember correctly, people's brains function differently at different ages... The biggest changes probably happen around puberty... But yeah, in a way, young people can be very different from older people... Much like how females usually differ from males... Of course, we're not that different really, but there are usually still fairly significant differences too. Some of it down to nature and some due to nurture.

Media just really hates people who make their living entertaining people online because they don't see it as "real entertainment" it's real to us damn it, it's real to us.

To make it even more real, I stopped watching TV.
I thought they seemed pretty respectful in this and just treated him as they would any other guest. Especially compared to some of the older examples I've seen.
Well in Tomska's perspective, he really wanted to go a more evil route when answering the questions to get more press, but he decided to be more serious cuz he looked like a history teacher going through a divorce
It's almost like television has an economic incentive to encourage people to watch the TVs over the RUclipss
I love how they didn't just rip him to pieces for writing this book. They stayed professional and let him explain himself.

I think there's a mistranslation from other forms of media onto RUclips. Anyone that created a TV show or subscription service that attracted 5.4 million people would be assumed to be extremely successful, and so anybody whose understanding of media only extends that far would assume RUclipsrs with millions of subscribers must be very rich.
The logic being if millions subscribe then millions must watch, and if millions watch the market-space must be extremely lucrative. Most often, it isn't. Subscribers don't pay RUclipsrs, and ad-revenue is a fraction of what it once was. Brand-deals and sponsored videos bring in more, but even then the market isn't worth what millions of subscribers would seem to suggest.
Without knowing any of that, it'd be easy to assume RUclipsrs like Tom are very wealthy. Tom is one of the UK's more successful RUclipsrs, and he's quite clearly just about comfortable, and that's it. I have to say it's pretty amazing to me that asdfmovie didn't come up at any point in this interview, since Tom has in the past owed his career to the success of that series.
it's incredibly important to ask about money if you wanna look at someone professionally personally I feel like they gave him alot of respect and I liked that :y
Well, if there's anyone watching thinking about doing youtube video's, knowing about what you're getting into financially is pretty useful

Out of touch is really the worst you can say about them. They were pretty damn respectful and seemed genuinely curious. Good interview for what it's worth.

They literally just chuckled a bit and didn't pursue that. Guys this interview is far better than any other RUclipsr interveiw I've ever seen. They're far more understanding and interested in far more than the economic side of things.

i know people are complaining about the questions they asked but tbh,,, those are the things people wanna know. I hate the money question but i really enjoyed tom's answer about how he admitted it was stable but incredibly unpredictable
the thing is that it’s always the same questions, and they’re very general, about the youtube business
so we don’t really get an interview of tomska or thomas ridgewell, we get an interview which is almost the same as any other youtuber, which is not really interesting
@@MegaSuperjavier That's true, but it's we who know of Tom and other youtubers who will see those questions answered again and again, because we watch a lot of these interviews in hope of learning something new about someone we follow or like. The general audience of a news show hasn't. For Susan, 54 in East Smalltown the online world is probably still all very new and hard to understand and they have to cater to that. And a five minute interview will always be very surface level.
That said, I would love if any of the big news outlets would do a proper interview series with big youtubers/online creators, who wasn't condescending and gave some real insight. -Like Becoming RUclips but without all of the abusers-

There was some few wrong info that was in this. Yes, Tom grew up hating Christmas because of his religion he grew up with at the time. Now he's trying to like Christmas and understand its meaning my guess was probably being sarcastic or something idk. Also, the story of Sam's kills Christmas has a really wonderful ending that surprises me. Also overall this news video I knew was gonna be bad with the media having no idea about youtube and such. But looking forward what Tom has to say about this in last month!
Most of this seems to be untouched being live and all that jazz, and yeah he was probably being a touch sarcastic with hating Christmas.

TomSka, gets likely around £60,000 a year from the videos, and £10,000 a year from sponsorships, so he's probably doing ok, but obviously nothing like he used to do.
To be fair, they went quite a long time without asking about money, but it’s still cringe. They wouldn’t ask an author or a rock singer that question.
