At least 7312 is not outside. Ever since spring of 2009 or even prior to that I never saw it in person the years I’ve been down there at least to my memory. When I was in eighth grade the last time it ran and here I am two years before I’m 30 years old and it still hasn’t ran since

The engine will never run again, just accept it. Railroad doesn't need it nor do they have the money or care about their history. I think they have made that quiet apparent over the years. They just care about money. All the 31 "dreamists" are just kidding themselves with this fake restoration. It's just going to remain in pieces and that is all it will ever be, move on!

Yeah no? I spoke to one of the men on the shop tour and they do plan to bring her back to full steam (possibly by the end of the decade). They have other stuff to do that’s more important like 90’s 1472 and contracts for other railroads. It’s also gonna take a while because 31’s tender is rotted out so they need to make a new one by just using the old one as a template. Also you say they don’t have the money to do so when they literally have done contracts with nearly every operational steam engine in the U.S to some degree. Plus if they didn’t care then why care to do 90’s 1472? She’s been with the railroad the second longest joining in 1967 and 475 is the oldest in the fleet being made in 1906

I don't believe that. If the RR didn't care about it, why would they still have it and why keep it indoors? They do have the money. It's just not allocated to it and is going to other projects.

@@caydenworley5002the railroad has never really cared about their history. This isn’t the same place that was warm and fuzzy pre 2000. This is a business first type of place that only is concerned with making money. If they were concerned with their history they would had kept the camelback, they would had not basically gutted the station area and replace all the shops with a shell of what it is to be, they would had brought back physical tickets, heritage paint schemes, etc. They are a money first organization and nothing else. That’s why the station is basically a carnival, all the original people are gone, they made god damn mascots, it’s not the place it used to be to be. The reason the engine is still in the shed is because the presidents in the past didn’t want it rotting away, but ask any shop guy about it and they’ll all say that it’s taken up space. Don’t be surprise if the new president finally moves it to the graveyard with 972 and we never see or hear from her again. Enjoy the memories cause this engine is never running again. 90 on the other hand is a useful engine so it will probably be up and running either late this year or early next. They love 90.

@@nascarthunder631 While #90's down for boiler repairs, the SRC cannot run trains with only two steamers available like #89 and #475 if they need to keep tourist business going. I'm so desperate to see #7312 back. Sometimes, I get a little stressed about #31's inactive status. However, a positive thing is according to April 2024 Railfan And Railroad issue, in the Canadians At Strasburg section, that said the SRC found working mostly in the spring and autumn seasons. So large train sizes don't demand larger engines. Meanwhile, after being put on the back burner for other projects, #7312 is finally getting a full restoration to running order.

I have heard word going around that after 90 is done, 31 will be the main priority. This is because after 90, there is no locomotives that need restoration. Also you have to think, they have the money, but not enough workers that actually want to do the work. I have high expectations that we will see 31 back in its former glory before the end of the decade, maybe even sooner

I thought the original plan was for 31 to be ready when 90 was heading into her 1472 inspection. I wonder what the holdup is, if it's something serious.

The President embezzled millions of dollars from the railroad and they were almost forced to close until the PA government stepped in. All money that was suppose to go to the 31 project disappeared and officially killed the project.

@@DJHProductions Wow! The Strasburg RR almost closed their doors? Interesting. When did all of thi drama happen? Also, has Strasburg actually made an official announcement that they have officially cancelled the 31 rebuild? Because nothing has been said publicly about that. All we're left with is just speculation like yours. Just because they don't have any money right now to finish rebuilding 31 is not the end of the world. What's going to happen five to ten years from now? No one really knows. But the 31 restoration is not cancelled, just put on hold. I'm sorry to hear that you don't have any hope in 31's return. But like I said, we don't actually have all the answers. There's a lot more that goes on in the Strasburg engine shop than just rebuilding and restoring steam engines. Let's not give up our hopes on 31 just yet, because it is more than likely that a miracle is going to happen funding wise.

@@DJHProductions Oh, what was that Don? If you want people to wake up and smell the coffee in order for us to believe your argument as to why 31 is never returning to steam, then that makes your statement to be considered facts? That's not how it works, sir, and I'll try my best to explain them to you. Just like my comments you replied to are all speculation, your comments are also all speculation. You're ironically making speculations about why the 31 project is never going to happen. And, what? I'm supposed to agree with you on this? Also, just because someone disagrees with you in the comments doesn't mean that they're kidding around and believing something that is or is not true. You are who you are. Also, If there's someone who needs to wake up and smell the coffee, that would be you. But no. Appearently, I'm the one who's living in my own world. Um, okay? And finally, I don't drink coffee. I drink juice with my breakfast. But I digress.

I hope 90 doesn’t get a new look like 475 and I mean I hope her lamp is still above her smoke box and not on her smoke box door.
