My first lever drag reels were the Penn 45GLS. I trolled a lot of the Chesapeake Bay with those reels. Still have them and the Penn Tuna sticks they were mounted on. The GLS series reels share a lot of parts with the 245 and 246 LD series reels. The handles on the GLS and LD are odd balls in the Penn line. I picked up a 40GLS that someone cobbled a handle onto and ground the gear stud to make it work. The problem was that the retainer screw wouldn't stay tight. Into my parts stash and a new gear stud and handle were in place. Current price on the parts is more than the reel sells for used.
You got that right and you cannot get a replacement handle for this reel now. I don't know why Penn changed that, but it was an oddball. Thanks for watching - Dennis
Hi Dennis, I'm working on a coldwater 203d that had a broken clutch spring. In the process I lost track of the spring washer involving g the clutch spring lever. I can't discern if it belongs under the lever or between the clutch body and side cover.
@2ndChanceTackle you should try. The sideplates in the Squall II Lever Drag doesn't have any screw, the ones in the Squall 30 LD are 4...maybe they are compatible. I think that also there Is more compatibility than we think, in order to don't having to make a lot of different frames and sideplates
Neat reel Dennis
Pretty sophisticated looking Reel, lot of screws & parts probably a really good Ree .
Yes - It is a solid reel for sure! Once you get the hang of lever drag reels, they are easier to work on
That's better.😀
They need to make lever drag castable reels.

If you send me a picture of the location for the spring, I will try to help you. Send the picture to my email 2ndchancetackle@gmail.com - Dennis
Talking bout the Mag 2 535 Is It possible to use the right sideplates for magging the Squall 30LD? For a Frankenreel
I don't think those plates will line up. I have not heard that done before. Nice thought though
