I was at this concert, l seem to remember Chaka having vocal issues on that night. The band were being sensitive to her needs on that night which is understandable. Her stellar background vocalists (Vesta Williams, Lisa Fischer and Melissa Morgan) also had to help her out at times because her voice was shot. Must admit l was disappointed at the time because l was a big fan. These things happen. This was Ms. Khan on a bad night. As a recording artist she was at her peak in 1985. She’s still my favourite female singer, hands down.
@ That performance by Chaka Khan was in support of her ‘I Feel For You’ album which was a huge success at the time. She definitely performed “I Feel 4 U” and the big hits and her favourite songs from her solo albums but l just remember being disappointed because it patently clear very early that her much celebrated voice wasn’t working at its optimum level for whatever reason.

I can even count how many times I've played the live version of What Cha' Gonna Do For Me! Out of all the live versions I've heard of that song, the performance of it on this concert is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥!
Glad you love it so much. Were you able to locate the flac audio of this? The original mix is available on thetradersden, while my remastering is on a site called Lossless Legs.
@@Harlemblkboy 😂 Chaka has that effect on people. When I first saw her live I got chills and my hair literally stood straight up on my head and it's naturally curly.🤯
Wow this is AMAZING! Do you know if you could find any audio of Stephanie Mills Live in concert from the 80s! I’ve never been able to get ahold of a live Audio of hers.
Isn't it great? Yes, this radio transcription disc exists. The problem is that most of these titles are extremely hard to find: www.discogs.com/release/4561949-Stephanie-Mills-Budweiser-Concert-Hour-
Yes, I put this remastered version up on a live recordings torrent site called Lossless Legs (not sure if still seeded but you can request for one if not). The raw transfer was found on another torrent site called the traders den. All you need is to join these sites and install a bit torrent client on your PC. The 1982 recording of her performance in Washington DC is also found here: www.guitars101.com/search/1481210/?q=Chaka+khan&o=relevance
I was at this concert with many friends, and I'm sorry to say it but it was an absolute mess and vocally Chaka was Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay below par! Her vocal top end was absolutely nonexistent and she was as high as frick'n kite! We'd all waited years to see her, and people were absolutely furious. Every one wanted refunds!
"Thru The Fire" is definitely below par but I don't hear it in the other songs. Or maybe the audio tweaking I did really brought out he best parts? Please note that she performed at the Hammersmith Odeon for several nights, so you might have been at a different show.
@@spinalcrackerbox I am, and have been a great fan of Chaka from her earliest days with Rufus, and I've actually had the great privilege to be in the recording studio with her on one occasion. She is a vocal genius/beast when at her best and rightly adeserves to be the legend that she is. Along with Aretha, Chaka is and has been the most influential and significant female singer in soul/funk music history. It was just unfortunate that at and around the time of these London performances, Chaka was having vocal problems and not looking after herself too well. I went to this gig with about 20 friends, all extremely keen to see her perform live, but sadly each and every one left extremely disappointed unfortunately. In fact some friends walked out half way through pretty furious at her having performed when so vocally under par, as the tickets were not cheap and they felt ripped off. But hey, such is life! I will always adore her no matter what.
@@suchisthismystery2814 I know right. I've been a fan ever since 1975 which is when I first saw her live and she wasn't high. She was unbelievabley fantastic one of my favorite concerts. I have heard stories about her bombing in concerts from being high. I saw her twice in the 70's both shows were phenomenal. My next two concerts were in the 90's and she was good also. I think she had just gotten out of rehab. I feel fortunate everytime I saw her she was in excellent voice. Forever a fan.
Unbeknownst to her, she had ruptured a tonsil in the midst of the tour.. I saw the tour footage and it looked like everyone was having a great time. The crowd was up on their feet the entire time….! Maybe you wanted a refund but thousands of others were cool with vocal problems.

I can relate to playing live versions of this song 🤭 this song is so good and how she executes it each time differently
Jimmy Haslip on Bass! Sandra St. Victor and Brenda White😎
And the great Grammy award winning Lisa Fisher - also on bgvs
Most of this performance released on VHS video Chaka Khan Live From London.
Yes, I found this out later.
27:53 Lisa Fischer 🔥🔥!
One of the other background singers is Sandra st. Victor. Everlasting love you can hear her clear
Thanks 👍

Pls post more 💙❤️☮️
I have one more that I am currently remastering: Chakra in Washington DC, in late 1982.

someone forgot to mic the snare
I think the band especially the drummer had to tone it down because of Chaka’s vocal issues.
Chaka is the BOSS not Diana respectfully 🥰🥰
