Wow! The HighGate Cemetery is absolutely beautiful . The amount of old flat tombstones sitting so close to each other. The different colors of stone and how some are leaning sets a perfect eerie atmosphere. Thank you for taking us here.
I went there at dusk on the way back from a football match one Saturday long ago. Walked up the hill from Archway station to reach it. I remember now,it was 1st September 1990. My best friend at school had told me a bit about its spookiness and I wanted to explore it myself.
It looks like he’s on the other side from the footage. So, he would have been let in early - before the usual opening time. But certainly nobody is going to be allowed on the West side alone.
There is a place in north London that I used to live in it’s call prince park manor it used to be a metal asylum and we moved it when they first turned it into flats and I always used to feel like I was being watch and I used to live on the top floor and I used to hear tapping on my window and once I saw (could of been my imagination but my friend and step sis also saw it but not my step mum) we saw a man in all black just staring at my window and we was there the whole day and didn’t move then just disappeared it was creepy I have more stories but I cba to type

I used to live in New Southgate and had a very strange experience there , at the back of the hospital is what was called the line path , one morning many years ago ( 36 by my bad maths, ) I was walking down there on my way to work , when I heard a woman singing an old Victorian sounding song ,,,, the singing started behind me , went up on the railway bank , then started again in front of me ,,,, it was about 6.30 on a dark cold winter's morning and apart from me there was no one else about ,,,,, ( just as a post script Aaron Kosminski the prime suspect for Jack The Ripper, was incarcerated in the old Hospital )
I believe cemeteries like this have their beauty, a bit creepy sometimes but a piece of history. I imagine if someone was really taking care of it making sure all the weeds were out and all the graves were straight the cemetery would be just like any other.
These are 'old' cemeteries....that is they no longer have people buried there. For some, like Highgate cemetery, this has been the case for many decades. But you're right, just because a cemetery isn't used so to speak anymore it doesn't mean it should be 'abandoned''. The trouble is cemeteries are owned by local authorities, and often they have a tight budget....which means the money that they need for their upkeep often gets spent on other things....like fixing potholes in roads, putting cycle lanes in etc. Stuff that while is important, should not really be taking money that was earmarked for old cemeteries. The UK's record for looking after old cemeteries is a pretty bad one. Unlike in countries such as Italy or in Eastern Europe where it's seen as essential that all cemeteries look good, all the time. We in the UK unfortunately don't share this same view. What does it say about us?
Haunting is more of an imaginative experience than the actual. All the places we saw were actually beautiful and interesting. I was totally intrigued by the tunnel and how it was constructed. I'd admit that walking alone in that would be a challenge, not because of ghosts but humans robbing or attacking us 😂
I actually went through that tunnel at around 4AM, it was just me and the emergency phone alarm was going on, it was proper creepy because it was just echoing throughout the tunnel.
@@benleith_ The Bethnal Tube station disaster happened during the War,when people were packing into it as the air raid sirens had sounded. Someone tripped on the stairs going down and more and more people fell on each other with fatal consequences. Some disturbing similarities with Hillsborough. That is by the elevated A4 Westway arterial route into the capital and a railway line by Latimer Road in West London. Local people would be far from happy to see it become a tourist magnet because of what happened, but I suppose such a thing is inevitable. Human curiosity and all that.

I went to Highgate cemetery once with my school when I was younger we had to pay to get in
I'm surprised that they let you in that side of Highgate alone. When I was there, I couldn't get in that side without being on a tour.
Ya how he went alone there

Hi
Hay
I know it may seem weird, but I like to go to cemetaries. My first job as a teenager was to help the caretaker with groundskeeping and digging graves.
It’s an act of mercy to bury the dead.
I love cemeteries too. My idea of a date night, honestly.

I was in England and in my opinion almost every cemetery is very neglected. People there don't care about graves and this is very sad.

In my small town Crewe (in the uk) the cemeteries are very well kept
That’s because we have so many it’s difficult to keep up with maintaining them. Our history is very, very old.
@@robtyman4281 People are still buried on both sides of Highgate Cemetery. We just have too many cemeteries to maintain these days.
