- There are 3 pairs of salivary glands: the parotid, submandibular and sublingual glands. Let's have a look and see where they are, why saliva is a good thing, how the glands duct saliva into the oral cavity, and their innervation.

Some ideas for future videos (although I imagine you've already got plenty): fossae of the head, namely temporal fossa, infratemporal and pterygopalatine fossa, and the main structures which run through each and how said structures relate to foramina.

when i had difficulty in swallowing, and swelling under my right jaw, i mistook it for mumps. since i hate going to the hospital like everyone else, i figured out after some research that ibuprofen and paracetamol and lots of fresh coconut water and the dreaded 'bedrest' will take care of it. after 2 days of it, i could barely swallow even a drop of saliva and found myself in extreme pain and swelling that would make a mirror de-mirror itself! the ENT doc i went to sent me packing to the hosp for admission and immediate iv medication. turns out i had been blessed with Ludwig's Angina (which doesn't really even sound dangerous!) and a "stone" that has crystallized in the submandibular realm. so today i researched the whole issue of 'Salaiva'. your explanations are simply brilliant, specially the way you actually use them as illustrative aides, along with showing the corresponding areas using your own face! thanks a ton.
Hello. How to threat tongue tie frenulum under salivary glands? Is possible to cut tongue tie in these area?

Doesn't the auricolotemporal nerve come from the trigeminal nerve? more precisly as a branch of the mandibular nerve? Its what I read in another book and heard in class.

My Parotide gland is swalling every 7 days.
It lasts for 24 hours.
Started 5 years ago, after high pressure applied in Brasilian Jiu Jitsu training.
No stones detected, no other problems.
But it swallows a lot and I can't eat or work that day.
I can not fully close my mouth.
No cancer, no stones.
What could it be?
Parotida is on the outside of a jaw bone, right?

Can anyone help me? I was eating dinner and noticed swelling after kinda where the last sublingual duct is closest to my back tooth way under my tongue. Scared to death it’s cancer. Any advice? Swelling went down shortly afte and was very tender still feel like I have a couple small bumps back there.

Hi Sam I love your videos, thank you! Given we are mechanical beings, and we know emotion is darkened by impact to the head, we should all give baseline hormone numbers to help treat everyone who has a head impact-event in the future. Stress disorder after a traumatic brain (head) injury is a physical injury, and because right now no one knows my cortisol acth and other numbers, if they are knocked askew, my future care and recovery is uncertain. The emotional changes begin right away, but are never treated right away. Why not? Is one possibility there are accepted ranges of “normal” hormone levels? Why am I so interested is something I would be happy to share with you.

Name of parotid gland:stenson's duct
Name of submandibular gland is wharton's duct and of sublingual is bartholin.
Parotid gland is serous mostly
Sublingual is mucus and submandibular is mixed

My salivary glands under my neck on both sides are large and I was told by 3 doctors it is because the muscle under my neck has weakened and stretched and the glands have dropped.
have you ever heard of this happening and what is the cause and what is the cure?

How can one tell if you’re feeling a lymph node or if you’re feeling the submandibular saliva gland?
If you made a documentary tv series - I would watch it.
So could swelling of these glands especially only one sided cause pain, such as facial pain, pressure, stiffness in the affected side? Also neck stiffness at times

Okay, I ate some pineapple and all of a sudden my face was swollen, but now I have a pea shaped lump near my jawbone, I can move it around. but it's a bit odd. never had it before.
