They still stick to that generally. Macbook Air, Macbook Pro, iMac, Mac Pro, though they did throw in the mac mini as a low cost entry level Mac. This was back when they only did computers, and still makes a lot of sense for their computer products. But it's smart to branch out into new product categories. If Apple had stayed focused only on the Mac, they would be a much smaller, less valuable company. They still carry this simple strategy over to the iPhone and iPad as well, you don't see 3 dozen different models like you do with Samsung, Asus, LG, and Motorola.
Jobs never established the four product grid as a lasting model, but just one that helped the company focus after all the useless projects were cut when he came back.
IE was a piece of shit but Netscape wasn’t much better. Both browser was born in the early days of the internet when things weren’t standardized. And had a lot of baggage to keep. Chrome, safari and Firefox was better because of hindsight.
