Great video. I've been training since I was 15 and I'm now 58. I was never a heavy lifter, using higher volume and various intensity variables as my main training protocol. At this stage, avoiding injury and staying relatively pain free in the joints is paramount to continued motivation and progress. I simply want to keep enjoying the gym 😊.

This. I was a competitive powerlifter for almost 20 years. Loved it. But nowadays, I just love pushing for any tiny gains I can get, and avoiding injury. Feel great for a middle aged dude.

At 69, I’ve found that simply cutting back on portions has worked wonders for me. I was at 186 and I could actually see a gut starting to develop, by cutting portions, I am down to 172. I feel good, I’m not worried about all those young pups. Keep it real and you’ll be fine. I have guys approach me asking if I’m natty. People just don’t believe you can be natural. Love your channel, keep it up.

Such awesome points. I love this channel. It is so realistic, compared to the usual fitness stench on RUclips, and I’d argue younger lifters would benefit as greatly as us old farts with your wisdom. As to part of your second misconception- the late, great John Meadows said it best- if you’re a natural, you have to really train hard, and you have to really put in the work at the table, because you don’t have the advantages.

    Exactly! Very well said! 👍
And given how I, myself, as a lifetime natural lifter, look at age 53 and how strong (and reasonably lean) I am, this comes from a place of expertise.

Agreed. Most lifting concepts and techniques apply to both young and older people, but not the 3 rep heavy max lifts. These will get you hurt. I leave these to the young kids, who also get hurt but can more easily bounce back. Thank you.

    Hi,
I started traing at 19 and I`m still training at 61. In my 42 years I have always trained natural and competed natural I have been in NPC shower and placed second and have placed second in natural shows, what have learned that in all my years when your natural you cannot train like the guys on the gear( found out the hard way)so you have to use training and nutrition to grow muscle , like you state in your video and now that I'm that older is that I train with different rep ranges and use linear periodzation on my compound lifts in 4 week block and progressive overload and listen to my body, as to when to go balls to walls or pull up, and I do cardio twice a week since I train five time a week Which plenty for me. I have a degree in nutrition which did help as well . And my off season I carried some fluff and when it came time to shred I trained the same as I did in the off season and let my diet and cardio for weight loss, and I learned that you have to give the muscle a reason to stay big , even though you cannot lift like you could in the off season , What you said I whole hearty agree , duri g years in training I have heard from other natural was I can't do this or that because I not using gear and that where I have always said naturals get in their own way , by the way love your videos

    I agree with all #10!
In all honesty. Do you believe that Paul Sklar is 100% natty, so no TRT either? In the 43 years that I have been training, in various gyms and in my working life in the Army, I have trained with men with exceptionally good genetics, but I have never encountered someone like Sklar who claims to be natty. You do?

Highly unlikely. The vascularity and the size at 52 seems unnatural. He may only be on a light cycle like test and Anavar but I can't believe that he is natty.

I’m not sure on that but I can say good genetics is a true blessing for those that have it! Thank you for service in the Army! We salute you! Thanks for tuning in to my channel!

He is not overdosing but he is on something for sure, sarms maybe rad 140, or some TRT but he is not 100% natural.

Also, have realistic expectations! Stop looking at all the Roided lifters and thinking you're going to look like them. Compare yourself to your old self. Especially if 60 years old and struggling with heart issues...do what you can without overdoing it. After being diagnosed with heart and aortic disease, I had to switch from heavy lifting to lighter lifting, more reps, more bodyweight training. I am still doing lots of cardio as I always did with boxing training, walking and cycling.

Most people who do use steroids in the gym are fat, and yes i did a cycle when i was 28 and i gained fat, you cannot eat whatever you want even enhanced. But i quickly realize that steroids were not for me. My sport doctor tried to put me on trt at 37 he though i needed it, and once again i gain fat. I have not touch steroids since 37 and that was some basic TRT, I will be 52 in June.
I also cut out creatine because it makes me so bloated even the kre alkaline one. As for training its normal having train all my life i been dealing with recuperation issues since i turn 47.
I change my eating plan and eat more fruits now and vegetables, more protein from food, and last month i stop lifting heavy cause my shoulders were getting it.
As you age its best to lift moderate weights and go for reps at least that is working for me now i just want to be lean and have a flat stomach but i will admit my energy is not what it used to be.

Too much volume, nattys do Ronnie Coleman style workouts 35 sets for arms etc, you’ll never grow
