    I've never heard about oiling the container so it won't crack when making ice. Great idea. Thanks for creating the video.

    Thanks for the idea with the olive oil. I've been making blocks of ice for while for trips & camping but my containers end up cracking after a while. Going to give this a try. Thanks

    Most bins have plenty of 'draft' so release isn't a problem, but be sure to use a plastic bin that is slick & doesn't have pronounced internal ridges or grooves (unlike the dishpan shown in this video). Then put a cheap plastic bag (like a produce bag, or a small trash can liner for really huge block) in it and fill with water. Excess part of the bag provides a convenient way to carry the ice block.

    How long did it take for the water to freeze? Not sure if you mentioned and I just missed it

    • @obscur156
      @obscur156  Год назад

      Usually two days depending on how big your block is and how cold is your freezer.

    • @obscur156
      @obscur156  Год назад +1

      The center is where it takes longer to completely freeze 🥶

      @@obscur156 I just bought a 7cu freezer from Costco last night probably take awhile to get cold enough. But trying to make some good size blocks 15 X 13 X 13. I’m thinking maybe a week but see how long it takes. Thanks for the reply and the video.

    • @obscur156
      @obscur156  Год назад +1

      @@Daniel-z2j2v Check after 48 hours if the middle is frozen, if not wait 72 hours.
      I doubt that it will take more than 3 days.
      Have fun going out and enjoy the great outdoors with your cooler full of 0$ ice block.

    Do you have to measure your cooler to make sure the container size/ice size will fit in your cooler? I have a igloo maxcold 62qt with rolling wheels from costco. I am not sure it that big block of ice will fit in my cooler. What cooler do you have? Also how many ice blocks do you need for cooler two on bottom and two on top?

    • @obscur156
      @obscur156  3 года назад

      Yes,you need to measure your cooler to make sure the container you are using to make ice will fit your cooler or place them in a way they will fit.
      I am using huge cooler for long fishing trip and they fit no problem for me.
      I have Coleman 120 pints.
      www.coleman.com/coolers/hard-coolers/120-quart-xtreme-5-marine-cooler/SAP_3000002458.html
      I put two big block on bottom and i am good for at least 5 days in 30 celcius heat.
      Hope it helps.

    You could always fill your sink with hot water and dip the container in to release the block. No oil necessary.

    • @obscur156
      @obscur156  Год назад

      The oil is necessery because it prevent the plastic container to crack,if it cracks you need to buy more container.I use cold water to release it.Hot water will split the big block in multiple parts.Thermal shock will break them.

    When I try this I end up with hollow ice blocks with cold water inside. Any suggestions?

    • @obscur156
      @obscur156  2 года назад +2

      Two things : #1 Is your freezer cold enough ?
      #2 You need at least 48 hours to make sure that the middle of the block freeze.
      Time is what you need to freeze a big block.
      Just wait until it becomes a big ice block...
      I always make my ice block 3 days before long fishing trip.
