He finishes as the most accomplished player in NFL history, which is why he is invariably linked to the nickname, G.O.A.T. That begins with his seven Super Bowl championships, which is more than any other NFL franchise owns. The seventh came in his first year with the Buccaneers in 2020, as he led that team to a dominant victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV. He was selected for more Pro Bowls (15) than any other player at any position in league history. He is a three-time Associated Press NFL MVP selection and a five-time Super Bowl MVP. As a Buccaneer, Brady needed just three seasons to rise to second on the team's all-time touchdown pass list (108, behind Jameis Winston's 121) and third on the passing yardage list (14,643, behind Winston's 19,737 and Vinny Testaverde's 14,820). He also set new single-season franchise records in virtually every category in 2021 when he completed 485 of 719 passes for 5,316 yards and 43 touchdowns. His arrival as an unrestricted free agent in 2020 ushered in the most successful three-season stint in Bucs' franchise history, including the aforementioned Super Bowl championship and the first back-to-back division titles in team records.
The thing about the Browns is that they were very good back in the day but haven't won the championship since 1964. They had crushing playoff loses in the 1980's and the owner moved them to Baltimore to become the Ravens in the 1990s. These new Browns were the NFL's payback to the city. The have probably had 20 starting quarterbacks since 1999, had a season were they went 0-16 and people just assume if there is a way to lose the Browns will find it
Speaking of numbers, it all is up to the teams. They usually dont assign that number over again. But there are excwptions. For the longest time Wide Receivers could only choose between 80 to 89. but as teams started reducing the number of running backs and adding more receivers, you can see the problem. so they added 10-19 for receivers. Also, a legendary player usually gets their number retired by that team. No one else can be assigned that number. But, for example, Peyton Manning wore 18 his entire career with the Indianapolis Colts, but when he went to the Denver Broncos that number was retired. It had been worn by their first QB, Frank Tripuca. When Tripuca heard Manning was going to Denver, he called the team and asked them to unretire the number so Manning could wear it. After Peyton Manning retired, Denver retired the number 18 for a second time
Y’all should check out some drew Bree’s career highlights! Before Tom Brady, he was the passing yards, touchdown, and completion % leader of all time in the NFL.

@@kenmahoney5255 Super Bowls don’t make you a top 3 QB especially when your defense is the main reason you won them. If that’s your argument then I guess Trent Dilfer, Brad Johnson, and Joe Flacco are just as good as Drew Brees.
Just like Aikman against Young. Smoked Young until the 49ers broke the salary cap and lost draft picks. Only way they could beat them. But we don't bring that up. It's not pc.
When Aaron rogers went to the jets this year he had to give up his number 12 because it was retired by Joe Namath despite Namath giving him permission to wear it.
Some teams will retire jerseys or never hand them back out for respect to the player. Some guys will speak to former stars or their families to see if they can wear a number sometimes.
Being a Life long Cleveland Browns fan, as i grow older, I see that the management/ owners constantly changes and then the new ppl want to build their team, and its a vicious cycle every couple years. they never stick with star players who are making the team a contender, its always a rebuilding year every couple years. Peyton went to the Denver Broncos his last years, won them 2 superbowls as well. And speaking of what happens to numbers, many teams of all the sports will "retire" the number from ever being used again, but Peyton said he had to have his number to go to the Broncos, so the players whose number was retired agreed to let him use it..
You should do a video about Drew Brees. He was every bit as good as Peyton Manning and Tom Brady but he kind of gets lost in the shuffle. He has 5 5,000 yard seasons. Nobody else has more than 2. He holds many league records, including: most 300+ yard passing games, most games with 4+ touchdown passes, most games with 5+ touchdown passes, the most seasons with 30+ touchdown passes, and highest single-season completion percentage.
If Brees had a competent defence he probably would’ve won more… so unfortunate he was only able to win once in 2009. That being said at least he has one.
Wasn’t just the Browns, it was actually the whole CITY of Cleveland that seemed cursed for many decades… Indians/Guardians, Cavaliers & Browns all couldn’t win a championship The Cavaliers broke that streak in the mid-2010s with LeBron James, though
Usually a team will retire that number for the team, as a sign of respect if the player is really outstanding. And Staubach invented the Hail Mary pass.
Funny story about about Peyton was he use to come up to the line and know defenses so well he would check down perfect and kill defenses but when he played against Luke and the panthers Luke was the defensive version amd there were time during the game they got delay of games called because the 2 kept calling audibles lol. That was one of the most magical things I've ever seen in football from 2 all time greats
For numbers usually the great players will have their numbers retired but sometimes the actual player who’s number is retired will give a new player special permission to wear their number if they’re worthy of it
That “getting the monkey off my back” thing Steve Young and some of his Niners teammates did on the sideline when they beat the Chargers in the Super Bowl will never not be hilariously stupid to me.
This video just reminded me that I'm getting old. I decided to Google Otto Graham and saw that he died in 2003 and thought, "Man, he didn't die that long ago", paused, and realized 2003 was 20 years ago. 🤣🤣🤣
Joe Montana and Steve Young are my favorite. I do, of course, have a San Francisco 49ers bias. Edit; The 49ers haven’t really had a superstar quarterback since.
Aaron Rodgers was drafted in the first round. The only shocker that night was that he wasn’t drafted first overall. Brady was drafted in round 6 with pick 199 as a backup QB for Drew Bledsoe. Brady didn’t really get the chance to shine in college as there was a power struggle between him and another QB for who would be starting. That uncertainty to start Brady made NFL teams cautious to pick him.
Left handed QBs are pretty rare. Only two have won a Super Bowl, Kenny Stabler(Oakland Raiders) and Steve Young(San Fransisco 49ers). Also, not always strongest arm, it is more usually whatever arm is your writing arm. There are exceptions of course. I throw right handed but my left is stronger. I can throw it further left handed but no telling where it might go.
Teams with players who spent a good amount years or very dominant years for that specific team, usually retire that number for that team. Like #12 is retired for the Cowboys, so no player will ever be allowed to wear #12 for the Cowboys ever.
Brady was drafted in the 6th round, 199th out of 223. Rodgers was 24th, 1st round. Warner was undrafted. There's a lot of undrafted Hall of Famers though.

When Peyton Manning signed with the Broncos, the number 18 was already retired by the Broncos (Frank Tripucka) Peyton was almost going to switch number to his college number (16) but Frank Tripucka and his family allowed it to come out retirement for Peyton. When Peyton retired, 18 when back into retirement with Tripucka and Peyton both sharing the retired number for the Broncos. Just like also Aaron Rogers this upcoming season number 12 is retired by the Jets for Joe Namath and Namath offered to un retire it but Rogers is wearing number 8 instead.
aaron rodgers was a first round pick but he didnt play for 3-4 years because he was brett farve's backup. kurt warner was undrafted, he played in the arena league before the nfl and didnt play in the nfl til his 30s, possibly late 20s, im not 100% sure. he was bagging groceries for a living right before he went to the nfl.
Fran Tarkenton in the 70s and (it hurts me to say) Ben Roethlisberger in the 00s probably deserve honorable mentions. There are maybe a handful of players that I hated more than "Big" Ben (most of them also Steelers)... but the Steelers had been treading water for years until he took up the reins.
@5:45 if you are a true team ledgend they will retire your number so It can't be worn again. For example the titans have retired 1(warren moon), 9(steve McNair), 27(eddie George), 34(earl Campbell), 43(jim norton), 63(mike munchak). You can get permission from the player to wear their number but idk if that has actually ever happened.
Someone can correct me on this, and I don't know as much about NFL traditions, but in general, giving someone's number away is kind of like saying they're replaceable and nothing special. Doesn't mean it doesn't happen, but not giving a number away shows a sign of respect to the person who wore it. Some numbers even get retired as an ultimate form of respect for the person who wore it.
Rodgers was/is better than Brady (so is Montana, Marino, Elway). Rodgers can do things on the field that Brady could only dream of doing, but he never consistently had the team around him that Brady did as the Packers rarely drafted great offensive players for him in the first few rounds of each draft. Brady would never have succeeded in Green Bay with those teams the way Rodgers did.
13:47 I’m sure you’re talking about Aaron Rodgers, who was certainly not a late draft or undrafted lol. Rodgers’ whole drama was he wasn’t drafted first overall (still first round), but Brady was for sure essentially an afterthought at that point in the draft. Both are similar though in they heavily outweighed what was expected of them and are all timers

Everyone you named are the absolute goats. Most of the guys calling games today suck. There’s a few team guys that I like, but the national announcers are just awful.
Teams retire numbers here--but reluctantly because there are only 99 valid numbers. There are some players that are so great that even players on other teams don't take their number (nor do players in college or even high school). Jim Brown, the greatest football player ever (a running back) wore number 32. He retired in 1965 and to this day one rarely sees a running back with that number---almost never in the NFL--out of deference to the greatest ever, the legend.
Roger Staubach was the perfect quarterback. In the 1970s, he made the Dallas Cowboys the most popular team in America along with their legendary suit and hat-wearing coach, Tom Landry.
Ken Stabler, Steve Young and Boomer Eison were all left handed and lead their teams to a Super Bowl, Stable and Young won, Boomer did not. Having a left handed quarterback is actually a big deal because it means their blind side is the Right side of the field which is usually the strong side alignment for the Offense and Defense, essentially this means that most teams have to flip their playbooks( so the plays run toward the side the QB is better at throwing. It also means that the Right Tackle is the Blindside Tackle, and becomes much more important than Right Tackles usually are as he becomes the QB's primary protection from blind side blitz.
The 70s. They picked Roger Staubach (2 SuperBowl wins) over Terry Bradshaw (4 SuperBowl wins, 4 in 6 years, in fact, 2 of them coming against Staubach's Cowboys, and being 2 time SuperBowl MVP)?!! Really?!! And on a side note, according to NFL Films, the Steelers were originally approached by NFL Films about the title America's Team. They said no. Thought it was too pretentious, arrogant. Rather fitting the Cowboys ended up with it, eh?!
it's up to the team for the most part about numbers. In colleges it's a bit more like europe. BUT like in baseball or basketball big generational culturally important players get the whole league to stop using the numbers like Bill Russell in the NBA and Jackie Robinson in Baseball.
Manning finished his career in Denver with a Super Bowl victory in 2016! He saved our franchise for a brief moment before we collapsed into mediocrity lol
Peyton Manning is probably one of if not thee best QB of all time in terms of pure QB play for his time. He single handedly revolutionised the passing game to what you see today. Honestly it's kinda crazy when you think about it, football nowadays with pass centric offenses is kinda attributed directly to him! He was the first quarter back to successfully normalize a pass majority offense with something like a 70-30 pass/run ratio whereas the vast majority of teams before were running the exact opposite.
Outrageous that Ben Roethlisberger didn’t get an honorable mention for the 2000s. Absolutely outrageous. It was always a 3 way WAR in the AFC - Tom vs Peyton vs Ben (there was also Drew Brees for a quick minute at the Chargers) It was honestly the NFL’s version of Ali/Frazier/Foreman. Whoever was the last man standing was probably winning the Super Bowl.
Joe Namath was a qb but he wasn't that good. He just predicted a huge upset victory in Superbowl three. There have been some left handed QBs but Steve Young and Michael Vick are probably the best of them. Tua Tonganvialoa (i definitely spelled that wrong) the current qb for Miami is a leftie.
Brady memorized the names of the 6 quarterbacks drafted ahead of him and used it as motivation to prove he was better. You can ask Google for their names. I guarantee you've never heard of them. Two were average. The others were duds.
The Browns are called the Browns because of the color of their fan's underwear 🩳 after each season and their stellar quarterback draft picks. Johnny Manziel approves this message.
Numbers in baseball are retired per team as well. Jackie Robinson’s number 42 is retired for the entire league. You’ll see games where everyone wears the 42 out of respect
Yes we do retire Jersey numbers for great players in every sport. And nobody on that team in the future can wear that number again. In 20 years, people will have jersey numbers like #196 and #114 just cuz so many jerseys have been retired...
Troy Aikman was the best QB of the 90s. Steve Young played is the pass happy west coast offense which padded his stats. No one would have ever traded Aikman in his prime for Young or Favre or even a 90s Elway.
Aaron Rodgers was drafted in the first round and Tom Brady was drafted in the sixth round at 199 and yes he’s right handed. Most of the time the best QBs are right handed
QB jersey numbers aren't like getting the #10 in European football. QB's have numbers from 1-19...there is no 1 number. Peyton had 18, Brady had 12, Montana had 16, Favre had 4, Elway had 7, Marino had 13...most star qbs wear the number they had in college...sometimes they'll bargain with a player if they already have it, sometimes not. Peyton Manning wore 16 in college, 18 in the pros. Tom Brady wore 10 in college and 12 in thr pros etc
Oh thank God, Dan Marino is on the list. Before I even started watching I said out loud "If Marino is NOT on this list, it's fraudulent." Oh, never mind I see they did pick Montana and even mentioned John Elway and Steve Young in the same breath as Marino. All of those guys had better teams, better running games, defenses, and receivers than Marino ever had. Marino had some good players around him but he was the one who made them good. Meanwhile Elway had a 2,000 yard RB in Terell Davis, and Montana and Young had a Hall of Fame receiver who is probably still in the Top 3 of all time. Marino was the best. End of story.
3:09 The Browns running joke is because since the 60s (well before the league merged and also added new teams later on) they have been shite lol. OB Mike wasn’t even born and they’ve have mostly be middle of pact or worse, they have some of the worst seasons in NFL too. BUT this doesn’t neglect they fact that they have had some awesome players: Otto Graham, Jim Brown, OJ Simpson, Nick Chubb, Miles Garrett to name a few. They’ll eventually turn it around.
They are sort of like Brighton but with championships in a league that no longer exist (AFL merged with NFL over 50+ years ago, creating the league we know now.)

The have probably had 20 starting quarterbacks since 1999, had a season were they went 0-16 and people just assume if there is a way to lose the Browns will find it
Brett Favre should have gotten an honorable mention for the 2000s as well
The 1970s, Terry Bradshaw and the Pittsburgh Steelers, and never lost to the Cows. Four Superbowls in six years is pretty darn outstanding.
After Peyton Manning retired, Denver retired the number 18 for a second time
Brady was selected 199th (6th round)
Y’all should check out some drew Bree’s career highlights! Before Tom Brady, he was the passing yards, touchdown, and completion % leader of all time in the NFL.
Hes a loser who could only do that shit in a terrible division and inside a dome. Gtfoh
Which you was more impressive because Brees did it in less seasons
I’m glad you mentioned Ben Roethlisberger being left off because it is pretty insane that he was Tbh
👍👍👍
Only one qb per decade, id give it to brady or peyton over ben and im a dolphins fan who respects tf out of the steelers
EDIT*
I take it back he wasnt even an honorable mention now that is crazy
Not really, Ben was never a top 3 QB in either decade.
@@cjboyer4355 really? From 2001 to 2010
Brady 3-1
Ben2-1
Peyton 1-1
@@kenmahoney5255 Super Bowls don’t make you a top 3 QB especially when your defense is the main reason you won them. If that’s your argument then I guess Trent Dilfer, Brad Johnson, and Joe Flacco are just as good as Drew Brees.
Love yalls NFL reactions, more!
This sure makes me feel old.
Lol, me too. My dad has seen every guy in this video play. I’ve only been doing it since the Len Dawson/Bart Starr years.
I would have said Terry Bradshaw for the 70's 4 time super bowl champ 2 of those against Staubach cowboys
Just like Aikman against Young. Smoked Young until the 49ers broke the salary cap and lost draft picks. Only way they could beat them. But we don't bring that up. It's not pc.
Pure talent => Roger Staubach, by far
@goodtimescali6316 cowboys fan complaining about a team abusing the salary cap
Steve Young is so overlooked. He has more completions and TD's to Jerry Rice than Montana did.
And he was more talented
@@areguapiri Debatable, but I def wouldn't argue against it haha
@@areguapiri
Agree. A running QB with six passing titles. Unfair.
When Aaron rogers went to the jets this year he had to give up his number 12 because it was retired by Joe Namath despite Namath giving him permission to wear it.
Kurt Warner is correct Daz ☝🏿
We do not have certain numbers to play but we do retire numbers. We do it kind of weird here but it works. Love the content
If Roger goodell didn’t hate the saints he’d have had a few more Super Bowl wins
At 13:40, Brady was drafted, but after several quarterbacks who never amounted to anything. There is a great documentary on that...
Wasn’t just the Browns, it was actually the whole CITY of Cleveland that seemed cursed for many decades… Indians/Guardians, Cavaliers & Browns all couldn’t win a championship
The Cavaliers broke that streak in the mid-2010s with LeBron James, though
Wally Backman ejection...checkitout, by far the funniest ejection imo
last time I comment this, I promise lol
What you watched was Sports Science, where Breese was more accurate than an Olympic archer.
I remember lots of them ❤ loved the video
Brady was selected 199th overall in the 6th round of the 2000 NFL draft.
Some times will retire the number. But sometimes a new player can ask for the number to be unretire.
Manning played for colts then had to have neck surgery later in. Colts drafted Andrew Luck and Manning went to Denver.

Thanksgiving Games and Turkey presentation was John Madden.
id pick rodgers over brady and im a bears fan .
Also, Aaron Rodgers throws the prettiest football I've ever seen and one of the most accurate.
I used to have a picture of Montana on the sidelines, drinking a beer and having a cigarette while his defense was on the field
I love the pic of Lenny Dawson, during halftime of Super Bowl I, having a smoke & a Fresca🤣
LSU football has a tradition with the numbers 18 and 7.
Yes, Kurt Warner was not drafted and he played in Arena Football League before NFL.
Best 80s and 90s commentators without a doubt: Pat Summerall and John Madden. Yes that John Madden from Madden football 🏈. Honorable mention: ABCs Monday night football crew. There were tons, Howard Cosell and Dandy Don the Frank Gifford and Al Michaels. Best Sunday morning show: CBS with Brent Musburger, Irv Cross and Jimmy the Greek.
The steelers kicked the cowboys butts and Bradshaw spanked little Roger!
Da Bears! 🐻
This could have been an all-hair team if not for Bradshaw
Almost any Major League Baseball player these days, if they wear number 2 it’s almost always because they were Derek jeter fans growing up
To not have Brees in that discussion is criminal
it's up to the team for the most part about numbers. In colleges it's a bit more like europe. BUT like in baseball or basketball big generational culturally important players get the whole league to stop using the numbers like Bill Russell in the NBA and Jackie Robinson in Baseball.
The 90’s Buffalo’s Jim Kelly is worth a mention, as well. Like Marino, he didn’t win a SB but went to 4 straight.
It was always a 3 way WAR in the AFC - Tom vs Peyton vs Ben (there was also Drew Brees for a quick minute at the Chargers)
It was honestly the NFL’s version of Ali/Frazier/Foreman. Whoever was the last man standing was probably winning the Super Bowl.
If it's a hall of famer the number will usually get retired so nobody can use it afterwards. All numbers shown here are probably retired.
Ben Roethlisberger deserved an honorable mention in there.
No doubt! He and not Brady was and is the youngest to win the super bowl!
@@kenmahoney5255 He was fucking awful in that Super Bowl though
It's a solid list and hard to argue with their picks. I'd take Favre over Young for the 90's but that's about it
Yes it’s an honor to be able to wear that number. But most of the time they’ll retire the number and no other person will wear it .
you definitely have to live up to the number when you play for a certain team.
Peyton Manning signed with the Denver Broncos when the Colts drafted Andrew Luck.
Teams retire numbers of great players but #12 is used most by quarterbacks. Brady, Bradshaw, Griese, Namath, Rogers and many many others wear 12.
If the player is an all time great their number might be retired and and never used again.
Sometimes they retire the numbers if theybwere that great on a team basis.
We retire the number, and in baseball 42 is league retired and that’s Jackie Robinson jersey
Thanksgiving turkey was John Madden
Kurt Warner did go undrafted and won a Super Bowl
The only one I don’t agree with is Steve Young for the 90s. Brett Favre would have made more sense
Kurt Warner did play in NFL Euro league, the Amsterdam Admirals.
