This is the 55 Chevy that made me love 55 Chevys! Dad and mom bought it when I was some where around the age of 6 and I can still see it rolling out of the transporter and something in my brain just immediately pulled me to the car. It was actually suppose to be my first car. I ended up with 68 Camaro though but still ended up driving this through high school when the Camaro was out of commission getting ready for a race. It's also the car I learned to drive manual in. Other than that - it has a lot of cool stories. And it was built to be a real Hot Rod in 1968. I think you'll enjoy this episode with lots of good stories, some history, and a little bit of cruising!

Your dad is a cool dude and I enjoy when you and him just hang out and doing projects like this
Yes. Badass taylors. 👍👍
Alex, it is so enjoyable watching your family talk about the car's history while you all work to get it running. Love the '55, glad you decided to fire it up.
Helluva job sir, being a father of two daughters, and a mechanically inclined man, you've done a great job with your daughter, you've made her believe that there's nothing she can't do. Raised my girls in much the same way. Keep on keeping on.
.
you and your family are true hot rodders..your dad is a wealth of knowledge and its awesome hearing him talk about the old school rodding that has passed..love your channel!
Denis is probably the most talented person I know of , on all levels & he’s just cool & collect. Well as long as Alex isn’t you tubifex & he can have his music on , I can relate.
As much as I love watching you guys build such epic auto art in your shop, I have to say that nothing is more enjoyable than watching you guys ''Driveway wrenching''. The challenge of driveway repairs (finding the right wrenches etc) is just strangely enjoyable, and no one does it better than Dennis. Love you Taylor Made for Racing. Thumbs way up
cant wait to see a build series on this car, love watching you and your dad work on things together, i always learn something new.
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,not many 55 belair cars in a state of unmolested by mother nature condition ; as this golden gem...........
You and your dad have a great relationship. So enjoyable watching you and your family.
Many take that for granted, never met my real parents nor do I know who they are. Id love to meet or have some type of relationship with them. Creeping up on 60,..
Glad to see the 55 on the road again!
It's nice to see that your mom gets to join. It will be a little more familiar and she is also part of your success! Looking forward to more footage of the upgrade!😊

There aren't words that could best describe you guys!... i could listen to you both all day long!!!
I really like this kind of video. Alex and dad back to the basics at home!!😊
Us viewers are seeing it for the first time so we think it’s awesome. Dennis is tired of looking at it so he wants it changed lol
What a great story about your family and the 55! I'll be watching to see what you and your dad do to the suspension. I'm sure his common sense approach will give me great ideas to improve my 56!
The whole family rocks! This will be nice to watch.
glad to see you guys just hanging out, because you all work so hard most of the time
Hey Alex, love both of your 55's.
You have the cruiser and killer 55. You have an amazing father, who loves cars and knows how to build them. Looking forward to see the build on the black 55. I'm sure the body will be perfect before your dad paints it. Love your channel and videos.
of the tri-five, the 55 is the coolest. hsd a 55 canadian pontiac which is actually a 55 chev running gear and body 265 chev v8 with 3 in the tree.
Thank you so much... I came to work today knowing there was something I needed to do and I could not remember... You helped... I had to get my tags renewed! You all rawk.
Alex, you always do fun videos. This was especially fun watching you & your father get a classic running again--well done. :)
Now, that's a sweet high school car... Great story, glad it's back on the road.
Alex is so happy it makes me in a better mood to watch her videos.
You guys have come a long way since the beginning of the channel but some things never change,Alex, pretty as ever and dad still using words like righteous.Going to be a cool build can’t wait to see it ✌️
Would totally enjoy a build series on that car. Like the theme of keeping it a small block n not tubbing, just a quick little cruiser. I would go for the paint though. Smooth patina is one thing but cracking out lacquer is another.
My jealous bone is really going crazy. Love 55,56, both my favorites. I'd have to go 55 if I could choose. Like your shows and enjoy you two working together. Alex, you remind me 3my daughter that I lost 2 years ago. Keep on going strong.
Love Dennis!! His demeanor never changes! whether sweeping out the garage or in the pits at the strip Dennis is Dennis! “You can’t buy a car like you use to could!”
We need more videos hanging out with DT
There are so many cars that are near and dear to my heart. The 55 Chevy is my favorite of all. My dad owned two during my early kid years!! I always enjoy the content!!!
Great car, great history. Look forward to the upcoming changes.
Beautiful ride right there, I'm with Dad about getting them hockey sticks off the bottom of the rockers. Here in Michigan the weather might finally break so I can get my 56 out in the streets lol.
Great entertainment , cheers from England. Love your Dad, knowledgable, grumpy and proud as punch 😊 cool.
Brings back memories of my first car (in 1969), '55 chevy, canary yellow, straight front axle, 283 CID, 3- speed on the tree.
Alex you are so lucky to be able to ask your father questions. Enjoy every time and minute you spend with your parents. Because I wish I could have my dad around to ask him questions. You are so blessed to have them still in your life. One thing I wish I would have done was ask my parents how they met and what their life's were like when they were growing up
Love the Lions Drag Strip license plate frame. I worked there from 1967 until 1972 (The Last Drag Race). Good memories.
❤❤❤ awww, taking the ol puppers for a ride! I love it, lol my blue heeler absolutely loves to ride in my 1001 ci. 1969 Camero n/a. It's definitely a head turner too!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉 you look amazing as always Alex
That 55 is sweet I love that color black is the best! 😊 I can see why you like driving that car regardless of how it's running I get why your dad doesn't like how it's running that's the mechanic at heart wanting it to purr like a kitten. Those cars are meant to be driven. I hope all of you enjoy driving that hot rod 😊
Big tires and a big block are the way to go. In 68 a 13 second car was a good running street car. Fuel Funny Cars didn't break into the 6's until 1970! In 1968 Larry Kopp, former NHRA Modified and Pro Stock Truck champion, had a 57, 4 door wagon called Mad Man, with a 331 CI, engine and a tunnel ram, in F/MP. That car was the fastest one in the class, and it ran 11.70's on a good day. My friend Frank owns the orange Super Bell 34 Ford, coupe. He lives about 40 min. from me.
How cool is that? That was a cool story there, and again I thank you Alex for inspiring me a while back during your build I'm your other 55 quest for the sixes. I'm on a roll with mine still have a lot of work to do on my 1970 altered wheelbase all chassis Dodge dart mixed with different manufacturers which I called true American muscle
Alex I know you probably hear this all the time but you have a cool ass dad, he's a hell of a builder, no wonder you turned out to be a gear head!
That gas pump reminds me of one on an engine we put on a 350 we took out of a ‘71 Camaro and put in an older Chevi. It didn’t have that little weep hole so pumped gas into the oil pan. As we tried to start it the owner leaned over the lifter cover just as the gas exploded. All the bolts on the cover except 1 ripped out! That one bolt saved the owner from a cover in the chest/head. He couldn’t hear for hours.
Awesome car, my first car was a 55 Chevy in 1972 and my buddies and I used to go to Lions Drag Strip on weekends. I grew up in SoCal now i'm retired in Oklahoma, thanks for sharing brings back lots of memories
Alex, I would really love to see you and your dad build that 55, I bought a 55 210 a couple of months ago with a little 327 4-speed the paint on it, it's just like yours can't wait to watch I know I will learn what to do to it, i did take the front bumper off lol.
That's kinda cool a '55 to drive to school in. One of my classmates had one, and last I saw a few years ago still did.
When I got my license in '75, I had about $1200 saved up for a car. I found a '67 Camaro, I'd wanted one since I saw my first in early 1967, for sale in the next town over. Got on my 10 speed and rode over to check it out. Got him down to $800. Told my dad about it and the answer was no way. He had a friend with a car that he wanted me to get. Well for $1000 I ended up with a 1972 Vega GT hatchback. Many years later I did end up with a '67.
First car in H.S. was a 1956 Chevrolet four-door Station Wagon. (No shortage of fellow students requesting a ride home after school, pack them in). (No safety first considerations then - no seat belts). Also had no engine or trans.; when I bought it. Located a 1959 283 at the salvage yard for $75.00. (Used roughly 1-quart of oil per 50 miles). (Worn out). Oil fouled #8, (Champion heat range; J18, spark-plug), often. (Longest popular / known electrode in that era). (This was before the *no-foul* , spark plug extensions were discovered).
Excited to see more of a relatable car and the refresh journey!
I have a 57 and have the original bill of sale and service policy from the dealer. It tells a great story. Don’t let it go, it’s history.
Love the 55's ,Your so lucky to have one just sitting around in that good shape, hope you drive it now that's it out of retirement, enjoy
Dennis just a thought but a high reving dz 302 build would make a statement. With the noise of a rock crusher m22. Old school with new school zing. You see people build them everyone in awhile. But nobody with the wisdom and old school cool knowledge. Maybe a Doug Nash 4 spd with that over drive option. Or auxiliary gear. Whatever they called it. How long has it been since you've seen one? The first 55 I ever seen had one. A Hurst shifter with a 2nd shifter with lil knob. Was told it was and auxiliary overdrive. I was a lil curtain climber back then. Keep up with the amazing work you do. Very much underrated compared to others doing the same. Best of Luck with All.
Enjoy watching you on hot Rod garage, but it’s good to see you getting back to your roots
Hot rod is ok. Not the same without dennis
@@keith.kccawley1677 but Dennis don’t have a contract with hot rod
That is so Bitchin I love it My first car was a 57 210 second owner drove it in high school also I put a 327 M-22 and early vet 3.73 Posi in it had to sell it when my youngest child was two would give anything to have it back love Y’all
Enjoyed the video. I picked up on a couple of details. The Lions Drag Strip (Long Beach) license plate frame. I live in SoCal and I was about 21 when Lions shut down permanently. They had a concert that night and my buddies and I attended. Also, I see your fridge in the garage. We had the exact same one with the drop down door. Ours lasted 28 years and quit a year ago. Had to rebuild the ice maker a few times. We could not find a new one with the drop down door feature. BTW...I'm a Chevy / GM guy all the way. I have a 96 Impala SS, 2003 C5 Corvette, 1988 Pontiac GTA and a 1988 Corvette. All four cars have versions of the 5.7 liter (350 cubes) small block.
That car is awesome as is!! can't wait to see it finished up!
"I want to watch it roll down the road" . Aint that the truth, I love seeing my vehicles being driven.
Reminds me of my current 55 hardtop. I'm looking forward to the build-up video series of your car. Thanks!!!
Bel Airs have a very special place in my heart. Also the 210.
I think this is awesome that you're redoing this 55 going to be a good build. I am going to enjoy watching this. Let's get a T-shirt of the 55 commemorate this build.
Dennis is One Cool Man & You Two Work So Well Together
You drove that to high school? Wow. Super rad.
Olá menina do sorriso mais lindo, que maravilha de carro, eu acho incrível ver seu pai e mãe contando histórias do passado com este carro, parabéns para vocês pelo trabalho bem feito. 🙋♂️🇧🇷🚘
that will be an interesting project. maybe like a period hot rod? black stock style wheels, the small hubcaps, less chrome, something that is not an LS under the hood? big enough rear tires, nice exhaust, nothing crazy. a cool cruiser.
I agree with you dad, it does need mini tubs and a big block engine... Fix the a/c and a fresh paint job. Fiberglass front bumper and Maybe a nitrous kit...
Well you know as long as you got the carburetor off, you could take the manifold off. Swap it over to an Edelbrock high-rise. Then get two 1150 Hollys/double pumper‘s and of course you’re probably going to have to put a tunnel ram on the hood. That’s a great looking car. You’ve got there. She’s pretty lucky to be able to drive that to school back in her senior year.
I seriously can’t stop seeing that amazing 99-02 Chevy crew cab dually in the background! My fav bodystyle from GM ever
That’s so cool she’s giving her dad a list of what she wants done to the engine. Hang on a minute I got my request.
Great video ! What a beautiful car , so very nice and rust free. Thanks.
Yes. Love to see a video series on the 55.
Perfect Timing, We got a original Californian 210 that needs lots of TLC.. Its been in the family, so to speak, since the mid 60s, and is very similar to ur 55. Ours is a 56, with a fuelly (Rochester) 327, with a Muncie T10. Lacquer paint and all. Now time to get to work , wish I had more ambition along with more $$$$, TBC....
Very nice car. Bring on the series! I'll take the wheels! I understand , they are overdone , Everyone has them. They'd look good on my 73 Vette.
Your dad has the BEST CARS absolutely beautiful and authentic ❤
Alex, drivin the '55 to HS means she was by far the coolest chick there. 😄
I really like the 55 dash, the tiny chevy logo on the stainless.
I'm going to get telegramme tomorrow.
Love the 55 it's an icon period. The chrome is its identity in my honest opinion but hey its your car. Thanks for sharing the history
P.S. I love the 5 spokes 😊
Wow love to drive a car like that in my school days .from new ZEALAND.
A 57 Chev is my dream car. One day I'll own one. .have a z28 camaro v8 but want to sell that
I love this channel thats dad and daughters awesome bond what a car
LOVE the KITTY PRINTS.. Used to get them on my CJ-7 Jeep in the back yard all the time. A neighbors cat liked sleeping on the hood. Even when it was covered in mud.
It's not a hot rod! Back in the sixties, it was mandatory to pull the front bumper off a '55 and that made it a hot rod! Great show as always. Thanks!
A new project1 Yah! Stretch the build out and show everything. Like your '55...
I love your family! This video is awesome! Keep up the great work!
This is one of the best videos I've watched on the channel and I watched them all thank you Alex for sharing this I could listen to your dad tell stories all day I love this video!
My high school car was a 55 green/white 2 door sedan, 283, 4 spd, 3 duce, with 2" lowering blocks ( that was big in 1963) - never lost a race to anything with 327 or smaller. Last race I won was against a new 66 Chevelle, 396, 325hp - all he saw was tail lights. Got drafted and spent the next years in southeast Asia, no races there!! Lol. Great looking 55, collectors will pay heavy for Dennis's hockey sticks!! Ha
This reminds me of my first hot Rod and working on it with my dad. I’d work to buy parts and we’d put em on and he’d show me how it all worked. Man I miss those days.
I was thought to leave the factory stereo working and mount an aftermarket stereo underneath the dash
Great idea for the upgrade! great content and your Dad will KILL it!
👍👍👍 Back in 1970 I had a 56 4door that I puta 300 HP 327 Corvette engine in with a 3speed on the floor peanut trans. Talk about small engine bays , I have a 28 model A sedan with a 350 SBC with a 350 TH and early 80s corvette rear end. Both cars were/are fun. So I know what you feelings could be. Up grading the 55 would be a great series.Great videos.👍👍👍
Dang, that's a nice 55! It will be great watching the build on it!
I restored my 66 SS Chevelle for my daughter and am storing it for her for now. I seldom run it but every time I do I go through the same series of fixes on its Holley!
Cool ride, great story. A killer high winding small block would be surprising to people on the street
Hi It's Mark nice car and good job fixing it U guys!
What!!! Looks like my old 55' I drove in highschool!! I know it's not a beast, but I know Dad will do what's needed.😁👍 And Alex, if you ever just want to make space in the garage, let me know. I can park it next to my 57' Willy pickup!!! Thanks for the video!!!👍😉
You and your dad are the BEST!!!!!
Awesome Bel Air - a solid black, rust-free Tarrytown N.Y. build, no less. Rare even as new with a 3-spd, Dual Ex., 4 BBL, and H.D. Clutch. My black '55 Sport Coupe first sold for $2,100.
Talk about a trip down memory lane... My Dad won a '56 Chevy as a door prize at a dance. It was a stripped 210, of course. He wanted the V8, Automatic, Electric wipers, radio... He ended up taking a two tone Bel Air off the lot for just a few hundred dollars. I grew up with that car, helped him rebuild the engine in it... and it was the car that I learned to drive in.
Alex I like that 55!! I hope someday to meet you guys. I am going to try and go to one of the tracks you all are going to be at to watch you drive. I can’t wait!! Take care
That is a beautiful old 55. Looking forward to more on this one.
Wah...Disabled & 74...had 2 55 2dr wagons & 1 57 2 Dr wagon...327 hooked duntov 8&18 cam 4 spd...456 gears...fun car...
Nice 55 definitely a keeper. There is more room in the engine bay than a gen one Nova with a small block. I would definitely give you your original money back. Have owned a 56 and still have the 57. May have to locate a 55 to complete the tri 5 owned legacy.
My father rode a drag bike at lions in the early 60's he was racing Stone woods and cook and the cylinder blew off causing him to fall of his bike at 147 miles per hr, bounced for an 1/8 of a mile and did not get hurt . I do remember lions well and when it closed in 1972.
Hmm, so I'm hearing a frame off respray, EFI 350.
A build series would be great.
Alex, you had a couple of amazing cars to drive to high school in.
Nice 55 when I was 19 was in the Army I had a55 gasser loved that car
15:26 So glad that is classified as a hit and run now. THat happened to me before work on morning. Some loon crashed into my car and dipped so ended up pulling the dents out after work... Never got the paint redone. It was just a daily.
Awesome 55 Alex can’t wait to watch the build on this . However she deserves a big block!! If its a dd car put a 396 with an Rv cam plenty enough power , an not so bad in the wallet for smile miles
Thatll be a great series to watch.
