    Maybe not happy and healthy but grumpy and healthy is better than sick. I know how you feel Bindi I don't like going to the dentist either but I'd rather put up with the discomfort than the alternative pain.

    You should definitely do a video on basic BD care with emphasis on calcium, UVB and atadenovirus. Bearded dragons are definitely one of the most common pet reptiles and unfortunately many owners aren't aware of these 3 basics

    I really love it when you talk about the animals you've taken in with "disabilities" and how you help them cope with it. Kemosabe, Huckleberry, Bindi.... It's so helpful and gratifying. I hope that it will lead to more people keeping their disabled pets and taking good care of them.

    I also have a bearded dragon with MBD. Unfortunately right now he’s impacted (in his intestines not the pores) and isn’t doing very well :( he’s been on liquid calcium for about a week and I’m going back to the vet soon to see if he needs to be put on a laxative. But unfortunately if that doesn’t work there’s nothing else I can do. His name is Kit and I love him a lot so wish him luck please!

    • @lydiaeddins2083
      @lydiaeddins2083 6 лет назад +8

      Have you tried putting olive oil on his nose? Just a drop or two for him to lick off. It is a natural laxative, I have read of it working for impaction in Leopard Geckos. T the B on RUclips did this when her baby Leo got blocked up with cricket exoskeletons from overeating.

    • @nataloowho
      @nataloowho 6 лет назад +3

      Lydia Eddins yeah I have tried that actually and it did work a little bit before. But now he’s not even trying to poop even in the bath. And I can tell hi impaction isn’t completely cleared cause there’s a solid lump when I feel his belly. Every so often he’ll poop but all that seems to come out are urates in really small amounts

    • @lydiaeddins2083
      @lydiaeddins2083 6 лет назад +6

    Gday Jessi :)
    Love seeing reptiles so well cared for!
    Luckily none of my beardies get this issue much and I believe it’s because I’m able to keep them in large natural outdoor enclosures but I’ve rescued many beardies kept on man made substrates like tile that seem to develop femoral blockages

    • @MrAminalCrackers
      @MrAminalCrackers 6 лет назад

      She explains why in the video: MBD. I think the most common issue with owner neglecting their beardies is MBD from improver UVB lighting. I'm sure keeping them outside often solves that issue pretty well tho

    • @WickedWildlife
      @WickedWildlife 6 лет назад +1

      AminalCrackers there’s not a direct link between MBD and blocked femoral pores though, it’s just that some beardies with MDB move less and thus arnt rubbing those pores on various surfaces
      I strongly believe artificial substrates and a lack of rough surfaces are main causes to blocked femoral pores

    • @MrAminalCrackers
      @MrAminalCrackers 6 лет назад +1

      Yeah actually that makes a lot of sense too. It seems logical that course surfaces would provide a better medium for clearing those pores.

    A friend just showed me this video and I'm so glad!! Thankfully my beardie's pores seem to be doing just fine, but now I know what to do if that ever stops being the case :D
    Just one thing I wanted to add (and if this is explained in a different video, I apologize!) but I wanted to let others know that the Neosporin used must always be the one *without* painkillers, as painkillers can be toxic to reptiles.

    You do not have to turn him on his back upsetting him cause him not to breathe you can simply hold him in your hand and lift leg a little and and brush the pores that way I do this with my beardie and he seems to enjoy it. Caring for your beauty does not have to be a stressful ordeal my beard never had a black beard because he has to have a bath in fact the bathing in the brushing has been a quite enjoyable bonding experience for both of us.
