    Maybe not happy and healthy but grumpy and healthy is better than sick. I know how you feel Bindi I don't like going to the dentist either but I'd rather put up with the discomfort than the alternative pain.

    You should definitely do a video on basic BD care with emphasis on calcium, UVB and atadenovirus. Bearded dragons are definitely one of the most common pet reptiles and unfortunately many owners aren't aware of these 3 basics

    I also have a bearded dragon with MBD. Unfortunately right now he’s impacted (in his intestines not the pores) and isn’t doing very well :( he’s been on liquid calcium for about a week and I’m going back to the vet soon to see if he needs to be put on a laxative. But unfortunately if that doesn’t work there’s nothing else I can do. His name is Kit and I love him a lot so wish him luck please!

    • @lydiaeddins2083
      @lydiaeddins2083 6 лет назад +8

      Have you tried putting olive oil on his nose? Just a drop or two for him to lick off. It is a natural laxative, I have read of it working for impaction in Leopard Geckos. T the B on RUclips did this when her baby Leo got blocked up with cricket exoskeletons from overeating.

    • @nataloowho
      @nataloowho 6 лет назад +3

      Lydia Eddins yeah I have tried that actually and it did work a little bit before. But now he’s not even trying to poop even in the bath. And I can tell hi impaction isn’t completely cleared cause there’s a solid lump when I feel his belly. Every so often he’ll poop but all that seems to come out are urates in really small amounts

    • @lydiaeddins2083
      @lydiaeddins2083 6 лет назад +6

      I am sorry to hear that. Hopefully the vet will help. Wishing Kit the best of luck.

    lmao, they skipped Bindi taking a dump in the bath. @2:00 you can see him immediately start to do the "poo-poo dance." Literally as soon as mine touches water, she poops. its pretty convenient for keeping the enclosure clean.

    You should be able to hold him vertically for cleaning them. Might cause a little less stress. You can sit his little bum down down on a surface tail facing inward to help keep him still

      THIS, is exactly what I came to say. How can someone so experienced with reptiles not know that you NEVER hold a beardie on their back🥲🥲 poor thing, you can see him struggling to breath. Their diaphragm isn't designed to hold up when they are in their backs.
      So sad🥲

    Gday Jessi :)
    Love seeing reptiles so well cared for!
    Luckily none of my beardies get this issue much and I believe it’s because I’m able to keep them in large natural outdoor enclosures but I’ve rescued many beardies kept on man made substrates like tile that seem to develop femoral blockages

    • @MrAminalCrackers
      @MrAminalCrackers 6 лет назад

      She explains why in the video: MBD. I think the most common issue with owner neglecting their beardies is MBD from improver UVB lighting. I'm sure keeping them outside often solves that issue pretty well tho

    • @WannonCreekWildlife
      @WannonCreekWildlife 6 лет назад +1

      AminalCrackers there’s not a direct link between MBD and blocked femoral pores though, it’s just that some beardies with MDB move less and thus arnt rubbing those pores on various surfaces
      I strongly believe artificial substrates and a lack of rough surfaces are main causes to blocked femoral pores

    • @MrAminalCrackers
      @MrAminalCrackers 6 лет назад +1

      Yeah actually that makes a lot of sense too. It seems logical that course surfaces would provide a better medium for clearing those pores.

    A friend just showed me this video and I'm so glad!! Thankfully my beardie's pores seem to be doing just fine, but now I know what to do if that ever stops being the case :D
    Just one thing I wanted to add (and if this is explained in a different video, I apologize!) but I wanted to let others know that the Neosporin used must always be the one *without* painkillers, as painkillers can be toxic to reptiles.

    I have a question....I have a Beardie, he's around 5 or 6, and I've had him since he was a baby. Last summer, he got loose from us and was gone for 5 days. Scariest thing in my life. Since then he doesn't really move around in his tank, he won't chase his food at all, we have to bring it to him and even then, he might not want it. The biggest problem is he will do anything to stay away from his heat bulbs. He stays on the floor and finds the coldest place. I'll get him out, and he's cold. I have a day/basking bulb, 2 ceramic heat emitters, and his night heat bulb, as well as his UVB bar light. I don't know what else to do. The only time he's alert, and will run around, is when he's outside. Any ideas?? This comment is so long, so bless you if you read it all, and bless you if you have any suggestions. Thanks guys! ❤💋

    You do not have to turn him on his back upsetting him cause him not to breathe you can simply hold him in your hand and lift leg a little and and brush the pores that way I do this with my beardie and he seems to enjoy it. Caring for your beauty does not have to be a stressful ordeal my beard never had a black beard because he has to have a bath in fact the bathing in the brushing has been a quite enjoyable bonding experience for both of us.

    Today my bearded dragon unleashed his femoral pores for the first time and I'm beyond excited/happy for him, BUT I have 2 questions.
    1) Are femoral pores a permanent thing on his thighs? Like once his pores are out and open does it stay like that? Or is it more of a seasonal thing where they open up then close up after a while?
    2) What's the physical difference between impacted femoral pores and non impacted femoral pores? Id think that for impacted theyd be red and infected? Since Olivers just appeared today I want to keep a close eye and watch for anything.
    Though ive had him for 2 years, I am a first time BD owner and I was never informed about femoral pores and I just want whats best for him because he's my world!

    An occasional large donation or a regular (monthly, perhaps) smaller one?

    • @animalwondersmontana
      @animalwondersmontana  6 лет назад +2

      TD McCoy Thanks for asking! A regular smaller donation is great if it's consistent because then it gives us more stability, you know for buying favorite and staple foods or toys. If you know you won't be able to donate consistently for long, then whatever you can give when you're able helps us in the moment, it helps offset the cost of unexpected vet bills or enclosure upgrades. Since we're a non-profit you can use the donation as a tax write off and you can even designate how you'd look he us you use the funds :)

    Hello. Can you do an update on him like a before and after? I'm curious how he looks now. I'm doing this same thing for my daughters bearded dragon and I think it looks slightly better but it's only been a week. Hes 7 and hes been in our family for a week now. Thanks for the video!

    Do you have to flip them on their back? Could you have someone else hold them up and then brush them right side up?

    Great video, very helpful! Just make sure anything you use with your Beardie does NOT have avocado in it, since they are very allergic, (as are many animals)

    Aww MBD, that sucks. Funny I Thought I had the only Bearded Dragon that hates baths, out of all the Dragons I've owned / rescued, my drama queen was the only one that seemed to hate it.

    Thanks for this video. My beardy is having this issue now. Its weird I have had him for about 7 years now and this is the first time I have ever had this issue. Oh one thing about the grumpy guys beard turning black. I wish I had that ability. If I could there would never be a need for Just for Men...
