    • @Dennis-vh8tz
      @Dennis-vh8tz Месяц назад

      The price is similar to custom tenders made for super yachts, and it's fairly common for large yachts with several tenders to have a dedicated "limousine" tender for transporting passengers between yacht and harbours, a role in which this would excel. It would also work well as a water taxi, though with the high price and minimal passenger capacity, this usage would seem to be limited to a luxury resort (as mentioned in the video), island estate, or other similar use cases.

      @@pistonburner6448 People confuse technology and design. The technology is the electric drive - which has been around for a while. Technology is not really important or useful in it's self - it's when it is turned into a product that it becomes something important. Computer mice and Graphical Interfaces existed for a decade before Apple turned them into a product. Sabine Hassenfelder has a good video on why Capitalism is Good that goes more into this in general. These will become like Teslas - they will serve as a symbol for a certain class of people, but aren't a serious general purpose car. On the other hand a Prius is. They are the in demand car for NYC Taxis. You will see these in elite settings and in parts of Asia where image is more immediately important than the actual practicality of them. You could expect a few here in NYC as a modern Commuter Boat between NYC and the Hamptons and points in between.

    • @captainwin6333
      @captainwin6333 11 месяцев назад

      @@pistonburner6448 Name another boat like this. Electric motors are superior to internal combustion engines and they're just at the start of their journey where countries, especially China, are ploughing money into motors, batteries and charging.
      If we're talking about environmenmtal disaster, that's the oil industry for you. China are already producing small family cars with battery packs that can do 400 miles and don't use Cobalt or Nickel.
      The rate at which battery capacity, kilowatt hours are increasing while prices and charging times are decreasing is outstripping any room for improvement of internal combustion engines that rely on petrol and diesel.
      The second thing you fail to factor in is the price of oil is being controlled by OPEC+, led by Russia and Saudi Arabia and they're cutting production by millions of barrels to push up prices. If the USA continues to unilaterally sanction whatever country it wants, countries, especially oil producers, will push back, dumping the petro dollar.
      BRICS with it's 6 new members will control 40% of the global reserves of oil and 30% of it's consumption. When Venezuela joins, and they will join, BRICS will control 67% of global oil reserves. What's the US gonna do, sanction BRICS countries and in doing so, the countries that control two thirds of global reserves? How do you think they'll respond? By cutting production, pushing up costs in the West while seling to each other cheaply. So unless you live in a BRICS country or the global south, you'll be paying more and more for oil products, one more reason why electric motors are the way ahead.

Just a random wake could do that. . .do you slow down and take it like man, or let nature rip the foiled off the bottom of the boat as the wave pushes the hull up? With retractable foils they could raise the boat higher on rougher days. . .until then, I would taking this thing too far from the dock.

    I am still wondering how a person can get this into dock, the side has glass and nothing really there for the person to go to the side to tie a knot, therefore in some sircumstances the captain will need to think better because of the wind since he cannot tie a knot from the middle or the front. Does the person well i guess captain need a person to help him on the dock to get this boat tied up to place? i guess the person would need to use the back ones first, which might not be handy in some perspectives.

      Sold? You mean commercially? According to which numbers?
      The only thing that has been sold is political power, and money has certainly changed hands...only in little envelopes, under the table.

    We live just north of North Miami on the intercoastal this would be a really good boat to go out to dinner in or to just cruise around and see the city lights in Miami.

    The floor down is definitely impressive and like you said make a real boat out of the top and you’re probably right it has a place as a day and weekend boat

    At 57 I think I am living in a generation that is in the middle of a huge transition. I have a diesel trawler with a Ford Lehman Diesel and just recently a Ford Lightning Electric. Hmmm.

    It's a cool concept and I love it, but there are also things I don't like about it such as the blind spot and the range. It would be cool to see more solar panels on it and perhaps a high resolution digital camera at the aft for rear view and one at the bow to nullify that blind spot with live feeds to the main monitor or perhaps a secondary monitor. Really cool concept though

    Jack, NO, NO, NO, it like a piece of electric lego on water....and this is BMW's introduction to future boating? They need to stay and stick with producing motorcars! Ciao and God bless you from Italy 🇮🇹, where they undoubtedly make and produce the best superyachts in thd world today, Amén!!!

    50NM is quite good. I would want a more relaxing interior. This 1980s futuristic look inside is horrendous. On board wifi would be a must since you have the foils to stabilize the ride. What type of boat hoist would be needed at the dock?

    Just over 2 million dollars, it doesn't have a bathroom, it's as practical as a bucket of sand in the desert. Ideal for the bathtub at your house or the neighborhood lake.

    Growing up around the outer banks of NC, this kind of craft would not survive long. One day shoals are here and a short storm later shoals move elsewhere. Striking anything with those foils and the Icon becomes salvage
