I'm one who left a somewhat negative comments, but this is not about bashing Celine Dion, or the technical and vocal aspect of it. This was a message song, where the lyrics were meant to touch people, and no matter how great Celine's vocals were, it's obvious she did not connect with it. Maybe since she did not live through the turbulent social unrest of the sixties, she didn't get what this song was all about. Anyway, I think that's where the negative comments come from, because the message gets completely lost in this version. Watching both versions is actually interesting because we get to see the difference when an artist sings a song perfectly, but without connection to the lyrics, and when the other deeply feels the song. Hope this explain things a bit, so that you don't let the comments bother you too much. To take your own advice...it's just one video, (with a few bad comments).

When they announced this was about to happen I was like what . We watched and we where in love with this rendition of the song . I still love the original , the meaning of the song and at the time . They chose to do this song as it was a hit for Elvis in 1968 - the year Celine was born. Its my favourite Elvis song. It represented so much - as Elvis fans have pointed out LOL. I was so skeptical when i heard they were doing this, purely because i thought it would look rubbish. It looked great, from the moment they walked out "together" - i love it. And you can still love Elvis' original in all its glory people!!

I think Celine thought it was an honour to do this, the look on her face even to a tribute artist was wonderful. It's so real, just like he is still alive. Glad you enjoyed it. Celine is a fantastic vocalist. But.... Elvis on his own in 1968 with a simple background (no active lights) was much more powerful in giving meaning to the words he was singing. And he made sure you knew he was singing from the depth of his soul. Not trying to be glitzy to get attention. Not showing off. The only downside is knowing that there was actually an impersonator next to her, and it shows in side and back angles, but hey, it was impossible to get him, so they had to make do.
That being said, I do want you to watch the version with Elvis alone. The other day when he watched another song of his, I was thinking that you should see this performance, along with him singing “suspicious minds”. Two really good choices!

Celine´s voice OMG. No matter what she sings. Her skills are insane. One of the best to ever do it. Elvis... he´s wow. I can say I only discovered him (really discover I mean) two years ago. He´s something else too. Totally different type of voice of course. I don´t think they could have donde this duet better. Of course it is more spectacle while Elvis´ solo versions from the 60s are pure passion and emotion. It´s not like Celine cannot do emotion and passion with her repertoire. I’m sorry but this version undercuts Elvis’s goal of having a transformative performance that would inspire change in our hearts. I’m a Celine Dion fan and this was I’ll advised if you heard the original.
This video is a pleasure. Dion's admiration for Elvis is touching. You have not insulted millions of Presley fans. If there's friction it's because one or two channels who don't like Elvis framed this video as a competition. To be fair the song was written for Presley in response to what he felt about the turbulence in the 60s and events like the assassination of MLK. He roared out the song with a soulful vehemence against the destructive forces at that time in a way that had to be toned down in volume so that Celine could match him and still look at ease in this video. The original solo is a different vibe but this duet is beautiful since you don't always have to factor in the past in order for a song to work.
The difference between Elvis and Celine, to start with, is the fact of blues, soul and gospel! When Elvis sings (at least to me) it gives me shivers to the spine. He keeps that blue note so close to him all the time. Celine is great, if you like mechanical approaches. But hearing her together with Elvis is like listening to Buddy Rich vs a metronome. One will always sound the same...perfect, but soulless..the other one will surprise you. I know what I prefer.
Nicely put together...indeed both great singers...but I really don't like messing with the original. I just really like to keep the original in place for all the new Elvis fans.

The power and passion in Presley's voice is not evident in this duet. Although the hologram is amazing Presley's vocals have been somehow reduced from the original version by the creator of this hologram. But again Presley isn't sing live here as Dion is. Two extremely talented,powerful, amazing vocalists here. Beautiful duet that gave me goose bumps. Who better to do this with than Celine Dion. All that said, I prefer Elvis 68 version because you see and hear the whole song through with Elvis' true powerful original vocal impact his passion and his grief and hope while performing, If I can Dream. To be fair the song was written for Presley in response to what he felt about the turbulence in the 60s and events like the assassination of MLK. He roared out the song with a soulful vehemence against the destructive forces at that time in a way that had to be toned down in volume so that Celine could match him and still look at ease in this video. The original solo is a different vibe but this duet is beautiful since you don't always have to factor in the past in order for a song to work.
The difference between Elvis and Celine, to start with, is the fact of blues, soul and gospel! When Elvis sings (at least to me) it gives me shivers to the spine. He keeps that blue note so close to him all the time. Celine is great, if you like mechanical approaches. But hearing her together with Elvis is like listening to Buddy Rich vs a metronome. One will always sound the same...perfect, but soulless..the other one will surprise you. I know what I prefer.
Nicely put together...indeed both great singers...but I really don't like messing with the original. I just really like to keep the original in place for all the new Elvis fans.

Remember Celine got to do is as duet, Elvis made it as a solo and had no chance to bounce off Celine. I would live to hear how Elvis handled this a a duet...he would have been even better, if possible.

The power and passion in Presley's voice is not evident in this duet. Although the hologram is amazing Presley's vocals have been somehow reduced from the original version by the creator of this hologram. But again Presley isn't sing live here as Dion is. Two extremely talented,powerful, amazing vocalists here. Beautiful duet that gave me goose bumps. Who better to do this with than Celine Dion. All that said, I prefer Elvis 68 version because you see and hear the whole song through with Elvis' true powerful original vocal impact his passion and his grief and hope while performing, If I can Dream. Well done.
