I want to see our boy in SF6. It would be great to see him with an evolved style, and way more basketballs.
I fucking love Sean Matsuda so much.
Same was disappointed we didn't get him on SF6 at launch hoping we get a slightly older more experienced Sean as DLC down the line
The thing is...the fact that Sean is this popular of a character when Capcom has obviously given him SO little, speaks high of his potential and what a great SF character he can become. He has a good core set of fans for what little he HAS done, because there's a lot in his design and personality that really grabs the audience. Really...Sean has the hard vibes of being the next gen SF protagonist; more than Alex ever did. He's the 'Hip New Ryu' (Even though he's Ken's student) and he's the perfect icon for showing what it's like to rise from the bottom heap and fight your way to the top. He is the FG Naruto, the FG Luffy, the FG Deku. (Hell, he was Deku BEFORE Deku was) that takes the journey and emerges more of a badass at the end of each arc. And Capcom _and_ UDON need to recognize this, because they seem to think that he should be 'Dude bullied by sister'. 'Dude made the butt of jokes.' We don't need that - even people that aren't fans of Sean don't care about that mess. Let him be the great character he's clearly set up to be.
Excellent video man. Love to see people that look past the surface level. You got a sub from me.
I hope he'll be playable in Street Fighter 6.
@@terrelltownsend8016 Same. Same.
the way I see things is like this...Sean and Dan have the same path to walk... but because Dan has been in more than one game set, Sean only in SF3: NG - SF3:TS, Dan starting in Alpha and then showing up in Cross-overs and many other side and mainline games. Dan has had more time to be there to walk that Path and Sean has only just started it, He hasn't been on the stage to walk the rest of the path like Dan has.
Dan started off as not only a Joke fighter ( to make fun of SNK's Ryo) but has been a Joke from the start that still goes on now, Hell in SFV they made him more of a joke by not only making him the only fighter that has a second super ( legendary taunt) but it is a move that fills both fighters V-trigger and CA bars completly and has dan take more damage the closer he gets to completing it to the point that a combo that can do maybe 20% damage would kill him in the last frames of the move.
Dan has had the time on stage to not just be a Joke, but he's owned the joke that when Dan doesn't show up that it's a problem. The requests for Dan to show up in SFV when they were talkign about bringing in new and old fighters was crazy. You know who else was on that list.... Sean.. but most of us knew that wasn't going to happen because of how he ended up showing up in the story, I mean what fighting style would he even have then... they didn't even have him show up playing Basketball or holding one, he was playing a videogame in both his onscreen showing and in his sisters story.
Sean needs the time to go from Third strike to New Gen then Double Impact/Giant attack as that is the path of lowest to highest in terms of Sean on the Tier list in most FGC spaces. I mean... the Made a Faux Joke fighter out of Q, who is low tier but Still decent and played alot that they put just about everything about him in the "new" fighter "G" and even gave him a second outfit to make him look like Q as well.
In the end of all this... i'm just saying that they could of made it work as it did with Dan to the point that I know some people that go into new fighting games and ask " so who's the Dan of the game?" I see that as someone asking, " Who's a joke/fun fighter that is pretty good?" the Closest that Sean came to that was Double impact
It’s cause he’s black and he will outshine the other shotos
@@fabolousjada5070 its cause hes black capcom think he cant focus ki control, bro cant even shoot a regular hadoken properly without it being everything hes got while sakura does it right after seeing ryu do it is just japanese displaying how Inf3rior they think brothas are and its sickening
Sean is really that character that deserved a lot better. I never liked the fact that they gave him the Dan Hibiki treatment. I also heard he wasn't even supposed to be treated that way and was meant to be the "successor" of both Ryu and Ken when SF3 was announced. But after the negative feedback of this idea, Ryu and Ken were brought back as they were too popular to exclude and so Sean suffered the "joke character" treatment as a result, perhaps as a response to how the idea of making him the "successor" was dropped entirely and agree it was a bad idea and so they began disrespecting the character as much possible.
I hope that if he returns in SF6, they give him a way better treatment and they don't make him a joke character again. I mean, he never even looked like the joke-type to point and laugh anyway.
Exatamente! .negro e brasileiro ainda. Já viu como é ne
Another big thing about Shingo vs Sean is the scope of their first game. Sean doesn't really understand fundamentals and loses to fire ball spam from ryu who's actively trying to get him to give up because ryu doesn't even view him as a threat or challenge. Shingo however gets to the semi finals of his very first martial arts tournament period with absolutely no training whatsoever and is stated the reason he can do this is 1. shingo has a photogenic memory so while he lacks game sense and intuition in fights, he can learn anything immediately, and 2. shingo is comically buff. his arms are thrice the size of his mentors so while he is definitely lacking the talent/blood to have fire around his attacks, he worked his ass off so hard he could make up that difference by hitting you physically harder than kyo can.
right away from day one its established that sean has no skill because he's starting out and goes no where, while shingo has plenty of strengths of his own he just lacks proper training, to the point that kyo gives shingo his gloves because he was genuinely impressed he could pull that off. Shingo has potential despite being a goofball, Capcom never even humored this idea with Sean at all.
I Absolutely Love Sean Masuda!!! He's My Favorite SF3 Character.
Same!
Sean was the first new character I played as in New Generation, mainly because he's a fellow "black"/Afro-Brazillian karateka from New York City who was bit more relatable as a trainee. He's still in my top three of the characters introduced SF3.
You’d love Marco Rodriguez in Garou mark of the wolves. He’s just like Sean, he’s Ryo Sakazaki pupil who’s an Afro Brazilian, who’s canonically a green belt. But Marco is a behemoth of a man capable of taming bears with his fists and teaching them karate, and his punching bag is a wrecking ball. He’s sick af.
@@Neogears1312 did you not notice who my picture? It's Khushnood Butt/Marco Rodriguez. Fully in the know about his bad assery. I do have to think about where he ranks in my favorite video game karatekas but he should be in my top 5 if not top 3.
Khushnood Butt
To add a few things: in 2nd Impact, Sean beats Yang during the WW tournament. Also, he did knock out a pro wrestler (also 2I), and back in November of last year, the SFV director confirmed that Sean winning a tournament in Laura's SF3 ending (SFV Arcade mode) is not only canon but takes place after 3, showing some development.
SF6 should be revealed soon, and I hope he (alongside Sakura) returns to showcase the next generation of Ansatsuken. And preferably give him a fireball, but at the very least let his Tatsu knock down, please. Overall great video!
I think he is more fun without a normal hado, so just making his Tatsu and other moves better could work. Can you imagine the mix ups if his roll actually had invincibility?
What if Sean's ex tornado kick had an attentional throw at the end you can activate by holding the kick button similar to his Sean Tackle, the kick grab would only be available in the ex version of the move, the grab would be a hit grab not a command grab also similar to Sean Tackle which would of course make using the grab move super unsafe on block and the throw in question would simply be Sean doing Ken's rolling back throw to his opponent. Otherwise if you press the kick button and don't hold the button his tornado kick will work like normal.
We NEED to see Sean make a come back. I think he should be a protagonist and finally master some sort of fighting style. Maybe a mix of his family’s and ken’s.
Sean Players Stand up!!
"You must defeat Sheng Long to stand a chance".
Sean should of been the protag instead of alex
Your videos NEVER miss! This gave me some perspective I never had on Sean. Much respect 🔥
Thank you! I'm always happy to see someone take another look at Sean! He very much gets looked over imo.
Sean could’ve easily been in Street Fighter 5 instead of Abigail and Birdie lol
Sf6 making luke the protagonist when they had the perfect guy in their hands for real
I m with you Sean, Brazil is the best!
Awesome video, man. Sean's in my top 3 favorite shotos along with Sakura and Dan so it's cool when I see love for him.
People who write him off because he's weak in lore are so wrong to do so. What makes Sean fun is that he's a determined rookie and not another "RAAAAH I have to be the strongest fighter in the world!!". Not that there's anything wrong with that. Makoto, Adon, and Hugo are my 3 favorite characters in the franchise and they're exactly like that.
But more down to earth characters that struggle are fun to cheer on and watch how their lore plays out. Makes for good variety in the cast of characters. Doesn't matter to me that Ryu kept beating him(ofc he would lose to him no matter how many times he tried). Says a lot that he even found him and him getting up again and again is what's important.
He's also pretty fun to play and I like how genuinely cool he looks. I honestly could not care less about Akuma and Ken. They're objectively cool of course. But in my eyes, Sean is more unique and admirable
Great video, man! Discovered your channel recently and been binge watching your Street Fighter videos. We share a lot of opinions in common so I really enjoy watching :)
For me out of the these three characters, Sean, Sakura, and Dan, Sakura I always liked the most out the three, with Dan in last place. However if I'm being honest here, the only reason why I like Sakura the most is cuz I'm waifu hungry and in a more critical perspective on who has the most potential between the two, definitely Sean. Sakura learned a Hadoken without training just like Sean and just from looking at it just like Sean. However, Sakura more so learned it just for the sake of getting close to Ryu and idolizing him, with Sean it's more than that. He wants to be strong and fight the best of the best. Sean was more serious about street fighting than Sakura ever was if we're being honest here. As for why I like Sean more than Dan, Dan sucks, is actually suppose to suck, and was made to be a joke especially in response to SNK's Art of Fighting characters Ryo and Robert. Not to mention Dan lacks so much self awareness in how much he sucks at fighting and is even in denial about it. He usually acts as if he is better as a fighter than anyone else and to top it off, comes off as a complete idiot. Sean is actually aware of the fact that he sucks at fighting like you said, and rather than him being in denial, he is more so insecure and is very serious about not wanting to be like Dan even going so far as to say, "Don't call me Dan!" and "Don't be like Dan." Sean knows he has room to improve and while losing hurts, Sean can at least take a loss and just rub it off and say "Maybe one day" instead of being this arrogant dummy who thinks he can take on the world. Not to mention between Dan's play style and Sean's play style, I feel Sean was always the better fighter in terms of how he controls and feels overall. I like his supers and the idea of making a Hadoken a super and one that can knock you back to the other side as opposed to Dan's 1 inch Gadokens. Plus basketball gave Sean a little bit more identity away from Dan that helps separate the two.
I always thought Sean was a cool character. Sean to me, was not suppose to be a joke character despite how he clearly is when you look at his story in the games. I guess I should say Sean shouldn't be a joke character. Sean is a character I feel can be taken seriously once again, unlike Dan, as he shows how much he wants to not just be as strong as Ken, but just, strong in general. In his dream you notice he said "I am a US Champion", not "I am a US Champion, just like Ken." He isn't just doing this for Ken, he is doing this for himself and to prove his worth as not just this self proclaimed apprentice, but as a street fighter in general. Why is that? Sean loves being a street fighter, even with needed improvements that have yet to be made, he loves fighting. That's why Sean to me will always be a better character than Dan, and holds more potential as a fighter than Sakura, once again only losing to her due to Sakura being a cute anime waman (well anime in some appearances lol).
EDIT: Plus I also wanna say this. I never got why many people just hate Sean with such a passion they have. Is it because Sean is from a game that failed miserably like it was with Ingrid from Capcom Fighting Jam? Was it because of his moves? The fact he was made in mind to be the next Dan and people hated the idea of a older character getting replaced? I'm not sure really?
Yeah, I think its a crime that they Golden Shoveled him for lore reasons.
Laura is good in a way, but could you imagine if SFV’s Seasons Passes had more slots and they were treated like Season 5 Sean could have easily fit into Season 3 or 4.
Plus, in The4thSnake’s Rewrite of A Shadow Falls he came up a great way to lead into Sean’s entry into SF5: his move set would be a great middle ground between Matsuda Jujitsu and Ansatsuken.
I think Sean should be in SF6 as the protagonist.
Not only that , he should had a mix of shoto+Laura in him , imagine if he had the inputs of the shotos , them puts a reverse shoryuken that brings one of Laura's grappling skills.
Let alone putting "reverse fireball + front" from Guilty Gear to Sean to add more moves for him as well.
@@phantasosxgames8488 Damn That Would Be So Bad Ass To See
@@tonysanders1299 right? With SF6 Reveal Trailer , he cannot be a protagonist , but the gameplay idea is pretty valid.
That been said , his fireball would be Laura's , while a hadouken should be a special , but more MvC-esque , maybe spending one bar for an eletric hadouken as well.
Honestly the fact that he’s weak in 3s doesn’t bother that much if it’s for lore reasons. Why would they give him moves/normals that are as good as his masters if story wise his moves are supposed to be unrefined? Sean’s strength in 3s is in the ability to mix you up with the basketball, roll and command dash to make up for his lack of refinement in his moves. This falls much more in line with how the character should be played as a student
"Why would they tive him moves/normals that are good as his master's if story wise his moves are supposed to be unrefined?"
*looks at Sakura in the Alpha games*
Yeah... No reason to do that...
Sakura has always had unrefined moves, but she was never that bad lol
@@viniciusduarte3420 sean comes from a fighting family sakura doesn't so no.sakura is japanese its the only reason why she improved in every game and not get weaker while sean a afro latino cannot even focus to shoot a proper hadoken unless its a art because he's black.capcom developers for this game are low life stereotypical racist i mean look at Kimberly with her spray cans and headphones bumping rap music whole fighting..🖕 capcom hope they go out of business
@@viniciusduarte3420 isn’t Sakura literally supposed to be a prodigy?
@@CombatSportsNerd Eh… kinda? Sakura and Sean are pretty much in the same boat. Sakura watched Ryu’s fights from the first world warrior tournament and copied his style closely. Since she can do a consistent, although weaker Hadoken, she clearly got pretty far on her own but after a while, she realized she wasn’t getting much further and decided to seek out Ryu for real training. Sakura’s take on Ansatsuken is obviously decently accurate and effective, but there’s some obvious parts that show some sort of improv or inexperience. Her crouching normals, especially in SF4 and SFA lack the same technique as Ryu and Ken, and there’s also her standing heavy punch (the weird two handed swing), which comes from the fact that Sakura plays baseball but eh. If you want to look for a lack of refinement in Sakura, just look at her specials. She’s done really well on her own but isn’t exactly perfect.
Still no sign of him being playable in SF6, but at least Ken mentions him in world tour mode. Ken even mentions how he didn't treat Sean right at the time and recognizes that Sean is a good kid.
I'm still hoping Sean will come back at some point. There's only him and 3 other SFIII characters who haven't shown up again
It continually bothers me that Capcom made a nameless player avatar character in SF6 that clearly resembles Sean. Just bring him back, dammit.
The theme of SF6 is the new generation, and Sean is the original "successor" character along with Sakura. He could come back with a moveset that blends Matsuda-style jujitsu with shoto elements to show that he's developed his own style after Ken refused to train him properly.
And to rub it in, SNK's relative SF3 equivalent, Garou: Mark of the Wolves, gave Kyokugen Karate a Brazilian Disciple in the form of Marco Rodruigez (/Kushnood Butt) and he was taken seriously.
Hopefully if Sean comes back in SF6 Capcom can give him more respect.
If/when Sean ever returns, make him as strong as he was in 2I.
My first introduction to Sean was when my older sister made me cosplay as him in 2016, years later in 2021 when my dad got me street fighter 30th anniversary I went to street fighter 3 3rd strike the people that I instantly noticed was Sean and yun when I played as him I started quoting him for some reason but anyway good video
It would be great if Master Gouken would take him under his wing and properly build his foundation. Since neither Ken nor Ryu have the time or desire. If Sean could track down Ryu. Then he could also locate Master Gouken. If he could demonstate his autodidactic talents. Maybe pledge a promise of a favor that can be called in at any time in the future also. As well as provide a secure sanctuary in a location where they could train for a few years? Then maybe the master would consider taking him on as his disciple. Even if only to humble his other two. Who are so self involved, that they cannot properly nurture the future generations. Nor see beyond themselves. But master Gouken does indeed have the time.
I main him even since I played 3rd strike for the first time
I can not believe Capcom never brought back Sean for anything.
You know what would be awesome? At the end of Kof 2001 kyo tells shingo to get a life and forget about fighting. Shingo of course is heartbroken that kyo would say that to him but then saisyu agrees to train shingo to be better than kyo. It would be cool if ken didn't treat Sean with respect at the end of street fighter 6 gouken could come in and trian Sean until he is the best. That is if Sean is in sf6
Let’s not give up hope just yet. A while ago, the SF5 devs confirmed in a tweet that Laura’s SF3 arcade ending (the one where Sean wins a tournament) is canon (I think they might have also said it takes place after Sean loses the tournament in 3rd Strike, but don’t quote me on that). A lot of people are losing hope, but I feel like SF6 might just be Sean’s game.
Capcom let us down hard
I said it for years that capcom just doesnt give a fuck when it comes to SF's story and characters. Not the way KOF does. Actual care, storymodes, manga, continuity, and not repeating the same storylines for 30 years. If Capcom really cared Bison would have died 20 games ago and even if he came back we'd have gone through like 5 villains by now.
KoF stopped trying too lately tbh
@@Mal-go5dl that's unfortunate
This is news to me, the fact that its on record that everyone hates him
Sure hes a joke but, I always thought people enjoy and get hype when someone pulls out a low tier character in a matchup
I always fell in love with Sean and the rest of the new 3rd Strike crew. Even if he sucks, I always enjoy his style, his charisma and just not giving up attitude.
All I hope is to see him in SF6
ken really said "lol cya gtg"
Sean should have been the MC of SF6.
They could do something really fun with him with moves from all different characters he's fought against. Like the fireball, a lesser version of the original, but more variety in total.
Oh well, we can dream.
Man, I’m still mad at Capcom, he was accepted but he never was shown again! Not even in the sixth with its large roster. It’s a shame really since he could have become almost as strong as Ken Masters. Now they’re old and tired, and Sean will never be seen again. Yet they added other new characters and made them super strong from the start😔. This really comes from the heart, it hurt me a lot that he was discontinued and so disregarded.
E porque é negro e brasileiro.
Love this!
I'm not a SF3 player, I casualy played one of the Alpha games back in primary school and first played with 4 when I was 17.
However I think it is a shame Capcom still does not respect it's legacy. SF3 is the one the best regarded in terms of Competitive gameplay, yet barely take back their former characters.
Dudley and Makoto are fan favorites... but not seeing Sean getting a bit of a redemption is a shame. "Yeah but he sucks" wel.. it only depends of the gameplay you are willing to give him.
Couldnt agree more
Yeah, Loved Seán.. loved Shingo too. First KoF Character that I found out who can "Guard Break". I haven't checked The Latest KoF, but I can bet my bottom Dollar that it is still there.
Seán should've been The Face of SF6.. not Luke. Luke btw, they gave him most of Seán's Moves. Read into that what you will.
Seans someone I can work on (got my copy of Dreamcast third strike finally) I kinda treat him like Ryo in a way (KOF Games not Capcom Vs Snk...felt they made him slower than Ryu on purpose)
I’m gonna need the track list for this whole video my g! 🔥🔥🔥
As a mii sword fighter main I understand how you feel
Theyve finally shown him some respect in street fighter 6. Even if minor
Tin foil hat theory. Sean comes back in season 2 or 3 DLC, but he was being trained by Gouken in the interim.
Sean needs to come back with most improved & stronger moves and winning a tournament and see Ken interact with him roo
Hola Sean
Como estas?
That's Spanish...
Do Ingrid next?
theres nothing to defend
I don't know. Considering Sean is younger than Ryu/Ken his speed should be faster. I don't understand why they made him this bad in 3rd strike.
I think they were trying too hard to make him Dan hopefully he gets better treatment in sf6

Apparently to capcom afro\black fighters have poor ki control to even shoot a hadoken properly even though sean comes from a family with strong martial arts background he cant shoot hadoken without it being super hard while sakura who has zero fighting experience can learn to shoot a super hadoken right after watching ryu do it instantly because shes japanese not doubt capcom showing thier racism in how they view black people and i hope they go bankrupt one day for it.
It IS racism. Balrog was the first black world warrior in the series, and you know what he’s portrayed as? A villain. A stupid brute that only cares for money. Literally a black stereotype dawg. This some ol bs.
Where exactly did you get this from and where is the sauce?
This comment immideately loses credance because this very same game has Elena
I wouldn't say Capcom is racist but it is really stupid that with how similar both Sean and Sakura's are character wise that Sakura has been in way more Street Fighter games and cameos than Sean has.
