Since you brought up 'Interstellar', I will say that I went into that movie without having even viewed any teasers and/or trailers, ergo, I wasn't entirely sure what to expect. And I am not ashamed to admit that that movie made me bawl my eyes out. I found Murph and Cooper's relationship so powerful and moving. Family is something that I will always fundamentally value. Always.

Agree, LOTR is also my favorite 4k blu ray. I have seen those films countless of times on dvd and blu ray.
Watching them again in 4k was like redescovering these films.
I was constantly getting hung up on new details I never noticed before. The Sound is also phenomenal.

Shane it was great to hear your favourites based on your tastes. I’ve been watching for a couple years and It’s always about the audio and visual. And I trust your opinion. It’s cool that you focus on that aspect. But I was always curious to see what you actually enjoy.
The Last Crusade was such a great movie, so much humor for an adventure movie, excellent story. My dad and I still talk about that movie fondly to this day.
The LOTR triology is also my favourite 4k blurray. The atmos audio is great, picture quality looks sharp to me (I know people have a problem with the dnr but for me it looks fine) and the movies itself are awesome I can watch them over and over again.
That already makes me not want to watch this video. Have some shame.
I agree with you LOTR is amazing. People just love to hate. Absolutely no one would notice DNR without being told that is was there. The transfers were amazing.
LOTR uses a 2K digital intermediate which was disappointing. Otherwise would have been perfect . Nonetheless still a masterpiece that belongs in every collection.
@@bigdreams5554 it was prob originally a 2K intermediate but all the film elements were rescanned at true 4K.
Wasn't the color time and greatly improved as well? I seem to remember the blu-rays being criticized for being "too blue."

I like Ealan. His video on the Emotiva Bas-X 5 got me to get the Bas-X 7 and just purchased the Bas-X 3 yesterday. Now I can’t go back to just listening to the AV receiver. Amplification is where it’s at!

Casino has a 4k Bluray with DTS:X sound.
I realised that no one is streaming Casino in Germany, you can´t even buy it digitally and it´s not on TV, so I had a reason to buy the 4k Disc.
My Top 5:
1) 1917 - love it - watched it in cinema, bought it on itunes and later on 4k Bluray, because I loved it so much
2) Parasite - great movie, nice Korean Atmos-Track
4) Dunkirk - great 5.1-sound, crispy IMAX-shots and immersive plane scenes
4) Harry Potter 1-7.2 - picture is fine and the DTS:X sound is really a big upgrade
5) Snatch - Just a funny movie and happy it exists in 4k, even got a new Atmos track.
Just got the CX Media Scott Pilgrim vs the World. Fantastic movie and great for a home theater
Only one of these I don’t already have is Casino. Though, it is one I eventually plan to get. Especially since I only have a 4K digital copy of it. I’ll possibly pick it up on the next Black Friday sale along with The Green Mile.

Great video! Of the two lists, I prefer Ealans. I actually have all of them. One that I can watch over and over and never get tired of is the original Jurassic Park. Not sure I could list a top five...I love so many movies. Thanks guys!

Hi great channel, I have an unusual experience and question, I’m trying to connect two cd players via toslink inputs on Yamaha RXV683 receiver but I have noticed that input 1 sounds very open and resolving vs input 2 is dull and muddy sounding and yes I have changed the cables and cd players but same results optical input 1 is superior to the input 2 do you have any suggestions

Goodfellas was one of my 1st 4k movies. I was hella disappointed, but it's still a must own. Top 10 movie.
That just the way it is. It is supposed to be grainier.

Terrific video guys! I actually have the majority of both lists in my collection. Man Of Steel is a great 👍 shout Shane 👏 If only WB had used a little intelligence and done a sequel to this instead of pressing the panic button and trying to do in 5 years what Marvel did in 10. Goodfellas is in 4k by the way but quite a disappointing transfer in my opinion. The recently released The Batman is now my all time favourite 4k disc. Its brilliant

The LOTR 4K is the best it has ever sounded but I disagree kinda about the look. Jackson ran it through alot of DNR and alot of detail in some scenes are actually lacking compared to the blu-ray because of the DNR scrubbing.
I don't see the dnr a lot of people complain about. It's not really mentioned as a problem in any real reviews. I have a great set-up. They do as well. I'm now realizing that most of you do not .
In short the DNR isn't that bad, you guys just have shitty players and TVs
@@iangray1980 i only buy top of the line tvs (sony a90J, sony z9j) yes the DNR is terrible. You don't have the eye for it.

watch Elliot Cohen's review on the LOTR 4k review. His review was one of the very few that covered the DNR because his review copy wasn't sent to him by Warner Brothers. That's the difference my friend. Other guys like 'films at home' had their review copy sent to them by WB so of course they had to say 'only nice things'. Eliiot Cohen gives you concrete screen shots of how mucky the DNR is.
There's so much obvious DNR, it's disappointing (mostly the two towers).
I'm sure someone posted already, but Goodfellas is on 4k. I have it. The transfer isn't that good, but it's a top 10 movie.

My Top Five will be: Terminator 2, Lord Of The Rings Trilogy, The Original Matrix didn’t care so much for the other’s especially the last one, Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory laugh if You want but I like that Movie and Legend Of The Drunken Master with Jackie Chan. Iam a massive physical media guy and I just bought the lotr theatrical version in the blueray remastered version it is a massive upgrade for picture and sound

But really, I think Lotr4k is getting way to much hate.
While I understand, this might not look like you guys would expect a high end 4k disc to look like, but at the end of the day most "normies" will not be able to say why you guys and other YT's are tearing this one appart.
On a 60" Sony screen it looks fabulous and it does look better than the BluRays.
Following the youtube coverage one might think this would look like a Playstation1 cutscene recorded on VHS.

This is so unbelievably difficult to try pick just 5, and to include picture, sound and enjoyability of the movie itself but without trying to sound too samey as you guys I've picked a handful.

The thing with LOTR on 4k Blu-ray is not that its the best version it could be but that it is the best version you can get right now.
Lets just leave the DVD release out of the game. I wouldn't dare to watch a DVD on my 65" OLED or any 100" screen.
There are three releases to choose from:
1. Blu-ray (Theatrical Cut)
Has DNR all over it, does not look sharp at all, but many people prefer this color grading
2. Blu-ray (Extended Cut)
No DNR (as far as I can tell), looks more detailed and sharper than the theatrical cut, has horrible green tint in the first movie, Part 2 and 3 looks much better, but there is a lot of black crush going on in darker scenes
3. 4k Blu-ray (Both cuts)
DNR is sometimes pretty noticeable (and can result in horrible artefacts), sharpness advantage over extended Blu-ray is minimal, but the HDR10/DV-grading is top notch and really elevates this movie
I prefer option 3. The DNR was never that horrible that it put me out of the movie. And I get both Cuts with the same color grading.
Goodfellas is available on 4K. Just not one that needs to be upgraded to 4K.
I’ll put dune 2021 in there somewhere!
Favorites are Terminator 2(91), Ronin(Robert DeNiro)(98), Training Day, Dark Knight, Predator(87)
Ronin isn’t out on 4k and neither is Training Day. T2 has the worst transfer on 4k.
