- The fall weather around this time of year always makes me think of Azalea Town's theme - such a beautiful and nostalgic piece of music! Insaneintherainmusic's jazz cover / remix of Azalea Town from Pokémon Gold & Silver / HeartGold & SoulSilver.
I believe that video game music is a hugely important part of many of our lives. To pay tribute to these fantastic compositions and their composers, I arrange their compositions in various jazz styles! I release video game jazz arrangements on this channel every other Saturday at 12:30 PM EST!

I really love the fall weather. There's nothing quite like walking outside on a brisk autumn day and letting the cool air hit your face. (I know that for my Southern Hemisphere viewers, it's actually spring now, but we'll disregard that for the moment...)
Lately, I've really been interested in making sure my music communicates some sort of emotion to the listener, since I think that's the most important quality of a good piece of music. Great pieces of music cause some sort of visceral / emotional reaction in the listener, and that's something I strive to achieve with my arrangements! To make that happen, I thought that tying a story to my music would be a good way to help people experience the emotions I'm trying to evoke here. As you listen to this, imagine walking along a path underneath some trees on a fall morning - that's the concept here.
Lots of musical things went into this arrangement, like really subtle time signature changes, and a lot of reharmonization! I'm currently taking a reharmonization class at Berklee, and I've learned so much about incorporating various types of substitution into my arrangements to change the meaning of a melody. Since many video game melodies are fairly simple and diatonic, there is so much room for reharmonization! I tried not to go over the top in this arrangement, and I think I succeeded in that in the end! I hope you enjoy this :D

This brings me back to 2004 when I was in 4th grade, when one of my teachers would play smooth jazz CDs while we all worked on vocabulary homework. I would finish early, look out the window, and think about what Pokemon game I was going to play when I got home. This is such a good arrangement, somehow perfectly evokes that nostalgia

this interpretation of the song is actually a really interesting one
honestly that's what sets you apart from an average arranger imo
you don't just take the song and put it on some new instruments, maybe change the beat
like anybody could do that, i could do that you just have to figure out notes
you have an idea and you take the melody and the core of the song and mold it into that interpretation, that's what makes you an excellent arranger
and you'd probably make an excellent composer too

I couldn´t be more identified with your comment. I have 2 or 3 months that I discovered this guy and can't stop watching his videos. It's real that he is different from the average arranger. This guy makes brand new amazing songs without losing the essential from each theme. And also he plays every instrument like a professional in all of them!

Azalea town is one of my favorite pokemon songs of all time. You did it justice- this cover is 7 minutes of bliss and perfection! All your work is absolutely amazing, but something about your Pokemon covers really stands out to me. I think those are some of your best pieces and I can tell you have an emotional connection to them. Great job once again!

I’d like to thank you for your advice. When you told me to transcribe and work on the things that popped out at me, I took it seriously and now I’ve been invited to the advanced jazz ensemble at my high school as a freshman. I’ve learned all my scales down and up to the point where I can play each of them in less than two seconds per scale, and honestly, my tone has improved a lot. I’ve fallen back in love with my instrument after a short time of wishing for harder music. And now I’ll be playing group one and two music regularly. So thank you.

It's the part of the path where you start having to run away as the wind around you picks up and makes the trees fall and almost hit you.... it's a stretch!

Yeah! I was thinking about choosing between Kurt and Bugsy, and I decided on Kurt in the end because you can go back and revisit him many times throughout the game, while your interaction with Bugsy is pretty much just a one-time thing.

I cry when I listen to this rendition, I remember being a kid in the subarctic playing my first video games inside because I was too sickly to play outside in 30-40 below Celsius. Pokémon Gold was the first game I didn’t have to share with my very young father and 2 brothers. It's funny because this is supposed to be for Azalea Town, a sleepy town in inland Johto, but it exudes what I would imagine the energy NYC would have in the 50's during the holidays, I LOVE this cover.

HOW DARE YOU MAKE ONE OF MY NOSTALGIA SO MUCH... uh... I don't know. You ruined my ability to sentence because of how good this is. The nostalgia! The memories! I grew up in the GBA and DS era but I had an old GBC with a copy of Gold. Unfortunately, it's internal battery thing died and couldn't save, so this was as far as I got most days. I never minded though. Thinking some more, there was a day when I played all day and made it to the Lake of Rage. I was a crazy kid. Anyway, thanks a ton for making this cover. I love it.

Pokémon Silver was the first video game I ever owned. It was my 8th birthday present in 3rd grade, one I'll never forget. Only a few months before 9/11. Damn, that is a blast from the past. I love the Yellowjackets sort of vibe this has too.

Pokemon Heart Gold was the first game I ever spent more than fifteen minutes playing, and I loved every second of it. 15 seconds into the cover and I already have chills. My respect goes to you, man.
Also, I'm not sure if this is worth commenting about or not, but your covers have given me the idea of trying out the accordion. I know it's kind of an out there instrument, but I think it's pretty fun. Once I start getting the hang of it, I plan on trying out in one of your challenges. It's pretty exciting.

Pokémon Gold was the first game that was mine, I played games before, but this one was wrapped under the Christmas tree with my name on it. Azalea Town’s melody bring be back to the subarctic where I was born. I listen to this song on the first snowfall (today) each year and rock it all winter. Thank you Insaneintherain.

insaneintherainmusic - Carlos Eiene That's really what makes it so impressive (that and you being able to play all these instruments so well) you managed to make it your own while still being instantly recognizeable. Plenty of people can do one or the other east enough. Not many can pull off both so well (Taylor Davis is the only other person who comes to mind right now)
edit: Forgot to mention your Snake eater cover gave me the inspiration to try putting together a cover of Heavens divide that includes samples of Snake eater to form a Big boss theme.

And, as funny as it is (I did not read the description when that happened), I clearly imagined me under some autumn trees, resting, with birds all around. I've always got to imagine a story when I'm listening to a beautiful piece of art, and boiii you hit right in my heart. You made me imagine EXACTLY what you wanted, and that, man, is incredible.
(And...is that me or we can hear a little bit of a pretty similar chord progression from Yoshi's Island "Touch Fuzzy, Get Dizzy" at 1:13 [and at 1:26 with the sax, and several times after] ? °o° In any case, that was really beautiful again)
