My uncle joined the British Paras as a 17 year old and served until he was 55. Much respect to you paras.
God bless. Thank your uncle for his service. ❤❤❤❤❤
@@kareyannefoster He passed away a year ago now. He started as a Private and retired as a Lt Colonel, and was awarded BEM and MBE.
@@andrewmason8691 Sorry for your loss your uncle sounded like a great man

Lt col p a geraghty?
"What kind?"
"Shut up and sit down"
Yeah, this guy served for real.
What are you an idiot , course he served
Not only did he serve, Speranza was a Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipient.
I mean, that's how we treated children up to 2007
@@abriannaaguilera2123you didn't get beat enough. Brat.
As far as the military is concerned, there are no stupid questions before you ask a question
Vince is from the area I grew up in, we met him in a WWII history class. When asked what it was like when the 101st were surrounded in the battle of the bulge, he said "Ah, we were just fine."
They did not complaint.
Today 75% of younger people complain.
@@maryshanley329bs
That goes frickin hard.
Such a badass answer. Hate that we're losing these guys.
That's dope, I mean you meeting him, as well as his badass answer to your question. I am also sure he appreciated you knowing about it.
Rest in peace, sir. I’ll never forget the time you came to my school for a Veteran’s Day assembly.
That's amazing I would've loved to have met him. He seems like an awesome guy.
I had the privilege of hosting Trooper Speranza at my home in Belfast NI a few years back. He came over to Belfast to learn about the 'troubles'. I miss him so much. He will be resting now in the Great halls of 'VALHALLA' 🙏.
@@liammorrison209 Weren't you so lucky? A highlight of your life!

Greatest generation of what?
Dang 50 dollars in ww2 is equivalent to 850 dollars today when I was airborne my jump pay was 150 2017-2021. Inflation is really killing us.
Edit: To everyone who wants to say that paratroopers back then were more likely to get injured or die. Those losses were expected in every position. If what you said was the reasoning infantry should get paid more than other MOSs, and salaries should have declined for everyone as war, in general, is far less deadly. Airborne pay isn't for risking your body and life. It is because you have an extra skill the military needs and that few are willing to obtain and maintain currency. All military pay except airborne pay is based on cost of living not risk to self (excluding hazardous duty pay). Airborne pay is determined arbitrarily and that is what needs to change.
Yup! It always pissed me off that our jump pay remained $50 at least through my retirement in 2001. Pretty pathetic actually.
Thanks to both of you men for your sacrifices.
I'm thinking that you two and Vince didn't do it just for the extra money. God bless y'all.
Was going to say jump pay has only gone up 100 bucks since then!😆
it was 250 every pay check for us at bragg back in 07 though it may have been because of us being in the Afghan war but not sure.
Was it worth the $150?
'They have us surrounded. The poor bastards.'

My father was captured by an element of the 101st at Kersteren in 'the Island' on 7th October 1944. He said that the yanks just had too much firepower for the Germans to respond. That firepower and their advantages in terms of food, matériel, transport and medical support meant that it was inevitable that the Germans were never going to hold the Allies.
Put a up to strength SS Division like Wiking, fully equipped with air cover, against any other division of any nation, and the result would be very different.
Fun fact: The man who famously uttered this quote was Creighton Abrams.
A heavily decorated Tank Commander during WW2 who went on to become a General after the War.
He is the man for which the US Army's Abrams series of Main Battle Tanks was named in honor of.
He said this quote during the Battle of the Bulge.
If I end my life having shown a quarter of this man's courage, I'll count myself decent.
100% correct
I would put myself in the "having shown 1% of this man's courage" bin. That's not a rap on me, I am singing his praises!
Thank you for serving our Country!!!
Days of old should never be forgotten! God bless all our patriots!🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
To stop fighting wars, first of all, we must stop talking about past wars. (Yes, it is the only war the Americans have ever won, but because they were not alone, otherwise we would still be at war.)
My grandfather was in the 82nd airborne in WWII.
That $50 more a month was known as "Blood Money" because you would be jumping into the unknown behind enemy lines and the only thing you had was what was in your packs and your buddy next to you.
That’s 900 bucks a month extra in today’s money. Nowadays the payout is 100 bucks extra.
@Chiraq312boi it's $150 a month.
That’s if anyone landed next to you
So I'm in my thirties, my grandfather was a kid who lived through Bad Guy Occupation. We've had amazing conversations.
I can't tell you why my first thought was "I don't want to play Tarkov on PC, you can't pay me enough to play it IRL" when reading this.
My dad was the 82nd. He joined in the late 50’s.
Awww Vince. Rest in peace, you wonderful man.
He died? 😢
@@NcessNasyayes he did unfortunately not to long ago I looked him up a while back

I got the honor to spend the day driving this man around fort Bragg when he came as a guest speaker, myself, our Brigade commander and and CSM sat around a table with this man, drank Belgian beer, and listened to his whole story rip Vinny and thank you for giving me that experience

🤣
My uncle was with the 82nd and retired in the 70's.
I'd love to have a beer with these older vets and hear all their amazing stories. Can only imagine what they experienced.
