  • The Notre Dame Basilica, one of the most important landmarks in Montreal is an epitome of Gothic Revival style architecture. Starting the construction in 1824 and completing it in 1829, the church replaced the old church. It took another decade to complete the bell towers followed by years of interior work. The beauty of the church is beyond words, divine and majestic. It stands as perfect blend of art and religion. It is not only a place of worship, but an architectural beauty and a feast to our eyes! You could literally spend hours watching this spectacular basilica interiors, especially the altar. The church is standing in front of the square of Place d'Armes which used to be a parade place for the military troops.
    A monument dedicated to Paul de Chomedey, the founder of Montreal is installed at the center of the square in such a way that he is facing the basilica proudly carrying a flag in the right hand and a sword in the left hand.
    'Aura' is the light and music show that enhances the paintings and sculptures of the basilica. It gives the spectator a totally new experience and insight of the church interior. It is around 20 minutes and needs a ticket to watch the show in addition to the visit ticket. The church also house the famous 7000 pipes organ. There is a beautiful chapel behind the main altar and this chapel has an altar art work in bronze.
