  • I finally got my hands on the Fujifilm GFX 100s II and I'm excited to try it out. I've spent a lot of time with the GFX 100 II and I LOVE that camera. I'm curious if the 100s II is going to take it's place or be a more price friendly GFX system for wedding photography. What are your thoughts?

    Hey John,
    Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I’m considering upgrading from the Canon R5 to a 100MP system. After working with a photographer who uses a 150MP Phase system, I’ve really noticed the difference in quality, though it’s way out of my price range. We also used an older GFX for some shoots, which gave us more flexibility during those fast-moving morning and evening sessions.
    I’m really tempted to go for the GFX 100 II, but I’m hesitant. I’ve been doing some video work, but it’s not my main focus, so the GFX 100S seems like a more budget-friendly option. The Canon R5 Mark II isn’t much cheaper than the GFX 100S, and since I haven’t invested in RF glass yet, making the switch now might make more sense.
    Anyway, I appreciate your review as I figure out my next move.

      That sounds awesome. I've had 2 shoots so far with the 100s II and I should have some comparisons coming up soon. Right now I'm leaning towards preferring the 100 II but I still haven't made my full decision yet.

    I am a full kit Sony shooter (A7iv, A7rV, A9iii) but just picked up a GFX 100S (not ii) with the 80mm and 30mm lenses as my first foray medium format. I am excited to incorporate it into my workflow for its specific purpose; the high resolution, high quality, deliberate image capturing tool that I need it to be.

    I just sold my 100s for the 100s ii and the differences are amazing…especially the autofocus. I used the continuous autofocus on my grandson and it stuck. Not as good as my old Sony a7rv but amazing. I am thrilled with the images and it is everything i am looking for.

    I can't imagine shooting a wedding with a GFX - the shutter lag alone would drive me nuts in shooting a dynamic scene. Stills/portrait - MF absolutely rules. I've owned both and from an amateur photography only POV, the 100II feels premium and has a nicer grip, whereas the 100SII looks a little dated and feels a little cheaper. The cost difference, however, makes it tough to justify a 100II for those reasons alone and it is a good bit bulkier with the EVF in place.

      Shutter lag? I think it feels pretty good actually. I love using them at weddings.

    4K 60p for a wedding? Why wouldn’t you shoot 24p for a proper filmic experience? 30 and 60 look so glassy and icky. For a product maybe but otherwise just noooo.

    • @f.kieranfinney457
      @f.kieranfinney457 18 дней назад

      Yes.
      But I shoot 24p, always, for filmic look. So if the camera can do multiples, that’s good. Though most of the non true cinema cameras can’t. And I’d want the same exact resolution and codec with no crop to achieve that.
      If you shoot boring tv 30, it can be easily faked in AE. And you can ramp up and down and other fun stuff.
      So yes, high frame rates are good but not if they sacrifice quality through cropping.

    • @jbivphotography

      lol. Only 2 currently. I sold my 100s to get the 100 II. And recently purchased the 100s II to test out. I'll probably be selling it or the 100 II and getting another 100s II so I can dual body. But I have to figure out how viable that is for me. The X-T5s are awesome cameras.

    I have been using this camera for about six weeks and it's a complete piece of garbage..BOOM.......LOL just kidding people settle down calm down everyone. I love this camera. And I mean seriously love this camera...I think it's very close to full frame in terms of focus probably not as fast but it's a little bit slower. Get you to slow down which I think is actually a good thing. GFX cameras are probably never going to be running gun style cameras. I'm a landscape photographer, but I also shoot weddings. I know that's an odd combination but I do probably seven or eight weddings a year and it's something I probably stick to around that Number and I've used this camera in everything but a wedding but I've done some other Portrait work with it and it works really really well. There are a few little settings that I change in the auto focus settings to get it to work better and also using the right lenses is critical on GFX as John mentioned 55.1.7 is probably the fastest focusing lens so I would definitely go with that one. Also the fact that it's 44 mm equivalent means you're gonna be back a little bit in certain situations but given 100 megapixels you can always crop in no problems at all the 80 is just too long for weddings. I've done a lot of different photography with this camera in the last six weeks and I absolutely love it. I actually do think it's a better camera out of the 2 now. I haven't used the other one but I have held it in my hands and I waited for this camera to come out because I just felt the other one was too much too big and I didn't like the removable EVF as well and there was several reasons why I didn't like it. One of them is that it sticks out from the camera and I would be basically, hitting my forehead on it every time I went towards the camera I didn't like it at all but that's not to say that it won't suit some other people. In terms of video specs look to be really honest I shoot video on a very small crop sensor camera that basically fit in my pocket or my DJI. I don't need a GFX camera to shoot video and I honestly don't think you need to. There are so many better video options that you can pick up for probably in America seven or $800 and shoot 4K video. This camera only weighs 883 g so it is fantastic. The Text on the outside of the camera is absolutely amazing. Yes, I'd like to see a video on comparing the files but please leave some files that we can download as well and play with but I had a play with several of the files. I also have the GFX 50s ii .... And even the files out of that camera were amazing. sorry for my long typing. I actually use voice text as I don't like typing. It's a great camera people and if you want to check out my work on Instagram you can. nevclarke@artphotography. I would honestly save the $3000. That was the difference in Australia and get 100s II. video mate I keep saying that no one shooting medium format video and if you're shooting a wedding, you're better off having a camera that's already set up on the gimbal ... Ready to go you're not shooting GFX medium format video. No one is except for those cinema guys who think they're gonna make it to Netflix but never do..
