- This is an interview WIS-TV personality Joan Barrett (Brady) did with teen idol Leif Garrett in the late 1970's. The show was called "WIS (wiz) KIDS" and I believe just a special/pilot was produced. Leif Garrett had been previously interviewed for WIS-TV's "DANCE" show during his concert appearance at Carrowinds amusement park on the North Carolina/South Carolina border and that relationship led to his participation in this interview for "WIS KIDS".
Thoughtful handsome young man. Very mature for this time period.
Leif had too much too soon. It’s overwhelming to have that success so young.

I remember this show
once he lost his teen looks,his career went down hill. Hollywood valued him for his young looks only, then abandoned him.
He had multiple "relationships" with lesbians. Probably bisexual himself but no big deal. He was exploited and used by Hollywood producers until he lost his cuteness. Then they threw him away like garbage.
Leif Garrett Seemed More Mature When He Was Younger /When He Started Getting Older He Went Crazy /Taking Hardcore Drugs And Drinking Alcohol /When He Was 5 Days Shy Of His 18th Bday He Crashed His Moms Porshe And His Best Friend Roland Winkler Became A Paraplegic After The Vehicle Took A Tumble Down An 80 ft Embankment ...
He wasn't his best friend, but just a relatively close acquaintance. He had only known Winkler for a month at the time of the crash. Winkler settled out of court with Garrett's insurance company years later for around 6 million. They made amends on a film set in 1999. Winkler actually said that the crash saved his life, even though it caused him to be a paraplegic. Imagine that...He passed away in 2017. May he RIP🙏
Leif dated ALL the Top female teen stars of the 70's era. The rumors were heated and explicit and confirmed as fact over the decades since.
What were the rumors? When he took out other celebrities it was for publicity he kind of admitted it just then he could have got a lot better than Kristy McNichol and Tatum O'Neal they are hyped up because they were famous but they definitely weren't hot

I was a teenager during this time. Actually, I see Leif in this interview differently that many of you do. You guys are viewing him through rose colored glasses. The "if it's gonna happen, it's gonna happen" (wow! Deep thinker, Leif) mindset that he has in this clip eludes to the dangers of having no boundaries whatsoever in your life. All you have to do is look at HIS life: He paralyzed his best friend, Roland, by driving drunk, and emotionally abandoned him after the accident. He has been a drug addict/alcoholic pretty much from the time this clip was made to the present, leaving a lot of wrecked lives in his wake. And, no, these weren't "mistakes". It's not like dropping your phone in the toilet or losing your car key. They were calculated decisions that he repetitively made. "(He) sounds fairly mature here" as one poster said. Wow, lol. When people get star-struck, they stop thinking. Yeah, really great guy, lol.
Roland was just as much at fault as Leif. And he only abandoned him because Winkler's family sued him.
He was with adults that weren't looking out for his best interests and gave him the drugs and alcohol when he was 16

Jesus what a shitty and inconsiderate comment. Leif is an addict and addiction is a disease and he had a really hard time dealing with life once all that was over. So, he self medicated which is totally understandable when you're an addict. He made a lot of mistakes and he owns them all and to this day, he still has a positive attitude about things. Since your comment 4 years ago, he has written a book and talks about everything. If you were ever a fan of him, you would read it and see how selfless he is. He also took care of his father before he died, even though he was an abusive, abandoning asshole till his death. And Leif forgave him and now takes care of his mother, whom he also forgives by being so naive during his childhood. THAT is extremely noble and empathetic. He's doing great now. He's 60 and still sweet and loves his fans.

lmao REALLY? Today they air a lot more than they did back in the 70's, when it comes to this subject. They air people acting like they are having sex with their dance moves. Some acts on stage are very nasty. People dress more sexy than they did in the 70's too, if you want to call that dressing. Showing as much of their body as they can get away with.
It's weird, but the 70s were actually a lot more laid back in a lot of ways.
There has always been this evil agenda to sexualize kids as early as possible. Gross. The teens are highly embarrassed and feeling forced into it. I am so glad, in my days we kept our innocence. I was 13 and still playing with dolls. Once I started dating and having sex, it was just about tears and suffering.

i take care of my hair he says and 10 years later was thinning very badly , too many hot irons and highlights and probably not much conditioner, he actually lost his looks quite quickly after 20, sad cause i was quite a fan of his in the 70s
Half of this is not true ! In 1995 he was completely bald and still beautiful ! I was surprised !! At some point he started free basing, not shooting it and then his looks went out the window. He'll be 60 in November...
