I have been looking for this film for some time. I read about it and it's a pity that this film was only on French TV. Thank you so much for putting this on RUclips for a wider audience. And in such good quality.
Black woman from the United States here- The Haitian Revolution is the jewel in the history of the world. So proud of this great accomplishment made by the determination of Haitian people. ✊🏾🖤✊🏾
African American women from Florida a lot of my friends are Haitian it’s great to know the history of all and im studying to be a history teacher and I’m so glad I came across this ❤️
At last! Thank you for the upload. I have waited over a year to see it in bette quality and with subtitles. Very interesting to watch even though it has its problems as many have pointed out. I like how the actor portrays Toussaint, especially in the scenes where he is older. But it would be nice if there was a newer adaptation of his life that is more accurate. After reading Sudhir Hazareesinghs book this movie feels a bit outdated. But I guess it’s everything we have for now, so I am really happy to be able to watch it.
@black human Yes, that is really the positive side of the internet! No, I have no African ancestry that I know of (except for the fact that homo sapiens probably originated from somewhere in Africa). I learned about Haitian history for the first time in a university class in 2018. I was a bit shocked that those events happened and that I never learned about it in school. I felt a bit fooled by the Swedish school system, because here in Sweden and many other countries, when we learn about the abolition of slavery, we only learn about the USA, and the narrative is often that the white slave-owning class decided themselves one day to stop owning slaves. And few people here even know that there was a country that abolished slavery as early as Haiti did. So that’s why I’m interested in Haitian history. If you are Haitian, you can feel very proud. Your country is truly exceptional. I have never visited, but I hope to go there one day. I am also fascinated by Toussaint Louverture as a historical person, his skills in various fields and the choices he had to make throughout his life. For two years I’ve been working on a fantasy novel where Toussaint Louverture plays an important part. I’m writing in Swedish, for a Swedish audience. Hopefully I will succeed in getting it published one day. I’m also interested in Indonesian hisory, because I lived there for a while, and I learned to speak the language, and when practicing the language I could learn more about their culture. But when it comes to historical characters, there are few that fascinates me as much as Toussaint Louverture.
i saw this series at an African American film festival in Oakland, CA around ten years ago, and I've been looking for it ever since! Thank you for posting it. I was just talking about it with friends while we were watching Exterminate all the Brutes. I told them that Raoul Peck directed this series, but I guess that I am mistaken!
I did not know about this movie that I discover today. I presented a whole leadership style research/study about him at UCLA in 2015. The attendance did not know about him and was amazed.
Puiske menm jan yo ban nou yon imaj aktè yon fim pou jezi!

Haiti and the Haitian revolution should hold a special place in the hearts of all African descendants and other freedom loving people.
AK Ken, your statement is correct
Agree
YES. As one who is Pan African and have some Haitian ancestry , I am very proud of our Ancestors who fought the Haitian Revolution.

So many of the generational curses are evident in this movie and can be traced back to this time period.
