The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

I'm italian and I'm blown away by how many countries he was somewhat famous, he appeared often even in japan.
American TV when it was at its finest!
They even made a feature film for the Japanese market which was apparently never released in Italy but his original voice actor reprised his role for the English dub.

The detail in those puppets is incredible, the way they’re dressed and how they move, so entertaining, Ed and Topo worked so good together, it was always the highlight of his show

It is always good to see these shows again. It was such a simpler and innocent time compared to now. A nice break from the endless barrage of reality shows that we are subjected to now.

I was in kindergarten the first time I saw this. I also owned a Topo Gigio puppet that my father bought for me for my 5th birthday. These are some of the best memories, ever!

I love Topo Gigio and I didn't know he had programs in English. I used to watch him when I was a kid and still living in Perú. He was famous in Latin America.
He was only ever known for simply appearing on this show and nowhere else I'm afraid.
Christopher Sobieniak Negative, Topo Gigio had already been introduced in Mexico in the late 60’s and all throughout the 70’s,80’s and well into the 90’s. He first appeared in Mexico’s tv network “Televisa” in the late 60’s. From there it would spread to the rest of Latin America including Peru. Topo Gigio was and still is well known all over Latin America it’s sort of a cultural icon for people that remember it as part of their childhoods.

I was too young to watch Topo Gigio, but my Italian father and grandfather talked about him. Makes me proud to be of Italian descent.
I remember this one so well I got to see that one. Ed Sullivan was must-watch TV.
It was how The Beatles became the legend they were to us.

I had to show this to my daughter who did not believe our new dog looks like Topo. Well, its hard to think that he was on The Ed Sullivan Show over forty six years ago. really takes me back, it was a time when the whole family gathered around a small black and white t.v. Ed sullivan show was an event for our family every sunday night, different world back then
memories.the days when we had a black n white tv and only got 3 channels.we watched ed every sunday night.some how even even with only 3 channels to watch tv was more enjoyable back in those days then now

This was in my recommended videos today. I love it!
I went on wikipedia and looked up Topo Gigio and found out how he works. It is quite an accomplishment and takes at least 4 people working in harmony to achieve Topo Giggio's persona. I am not telling how he works in this post because I don't want to spoil anyones enjoyment.

Such a wonderful time in television! Everything was new back then and the world was a better place even though the Vietnam War was raging.Ed Sullivan's show was always packed with good entertainment.I miss it.

Theres 4 different people in control of Topo- one controlling his legs and mouth (Topo's creator actually), a separate pupeteer per arm, and a guy providing the voice. Pretty incredible for a 6" tall puppet
