- I almost missed out on Fall 2022's hidden gem anime, Bocchi The Rock, does it give the likes of Chainsaw Man & Bleach a run for their money?

Phases
1. Bocchi is literally me fr fr
2. New Age K-ON
3. AKFG and Japan Rock References
4. Off the walls animation
5. Realize that its very different than K-On and its a really solid anime with great protrayal of social anxiety and musicians in general
6. Waifus
7. Memes
i wouldn't even call it new age K-on, as it was mainly slice of life as a focus, while bocchis main focus is music and the music scene itself, in that way they're effectively opposites.
@@QTEila Yeah but thats the initial reaction tho. You will realize its very different as you watch
If you like Kita _now,_ I can't wait for the story to move forward, because while Bocchi might be the main character, this series runs on the Power of Friendship, so all four girls get the screentime to grow and shine.
sounds great !
@@VirtueRUclips whats up with the upload schedule you got good videos
@@Cilpher I drop 1 a week roughly, hard to do more than that cause there's only so much anime, I have to actually watch them and I'm working full time while doing this haha
@@VirtueRUclips oh didnt think you watched it all the way through
I think it's weird that everyone remarks how Kita is outgoing and forgets the drummer. She's even more outgoing imo. She put the entire band together. She's like Miku of Band-Maid except she plays drums. She's the leader. I think the band is clearly two extroverts and two introverts.
On your last point about you personally not relating to bocchi, one line I feel really summarizes it was when bocchi wrote the lyrics to their first song and when her band mates read them Ryo says “it won’t connect to many people, but to the people it does connect it will hit hard”
maybe ryo does have a lil more in that brain other than music history and air
Technically speaking, she is NOT an introvert, she is a person with social anxiety, most likely ambivert.
She wants socialization and fame, construct dependencies, be in the center of attention and live full live with broad experiences. She fails in all that but she wants it, and that desire is what is important, because desire defines person placement on introvert-extravert axis (if you believe in that theory at all).
I pretty much agree with this, but given that Bocchi self-identifies and that she can be seen multiple times wanting to get away from social interaction to "recharge" (which could be either anxiety or introversion or both) I think it's a fine description, you can be an introvert and not be a complete loner/wanna have friends and crave interaction. Her desire to be popular too might just be childlike dreams/wants without maybe fully realizing all of what would come with that for her.
edited my initial response cause for some reason youtube didn't load in your whole comment until I read it again later lol
Nah, she's INFP
Boy, you done went ahead done did it again boy. Good vid. It’s always cool to see a slice of life use more dramatized/fantastical imagery and references to lift up the genre, not that every slice of life needs it.
it's weird cause thinking back on it realistic, quieter moments are some of my favorite moments in all of anime but I don't like the genre as a whole that much. But shows like this or mob with their little heartwarming moments always make me feel something.
It's much more of a music anime than a slice of life, it's the opposit eof K-On, while K-on was a slice of life with music as the side, Bocchis main focus is the music scene, with the slice of life taking a smaller side.
you're probably right! My videos usually tell my kinda journey with the show, it's most impactful messaging to me and stuff like that and going into Bocchi I was 100% expecting it to be a slice-of-life show w/ some music so I wanted the video to kinda tell the same journey and how I started to appreciate it for more than what it I initially thought it was.
In my case it would be "You need to rewatch this hidden gen anime". This moment was so satisfying 7:50
I'm really rooting for a second season, otherwise I''ll be buying the manga
Amazing video, Virtue!!!
thank you ! and thanks for the great cover as well ! I do hope they can keep it going as the music and the anime-only scenes really add a lot for me.
all the girls fall on a spectrum.
bocchi : intorvert who stays inside
ryo: intorvert who goes outside
nijika: extrovert who stays inside
kita: extrovert who goes outside
yeah! allows the band to have a nice balance of characters without them stepping on each other's shoes
It's cool that you enjoyed the show despite not relating to Bocchi.
For me it was the opposite. She's probably the single fictional character I've related to the most, not just because of how she is but also how the animation shows how it feels. Things that might seem ridiculous are 100% accurate to my reality.
So being such a huge fan of the show, knowing that even people who don't feel the same way I do still found things to love about the show is pretty cool.
Just goes to show how good it really is. For so many reasons.
yeah I understand that, I think that everyone probably at leas thas a friend with some Bocchi-like qualities and it's a great part of the anime medium with how they can get creative in how they express real emotions and Bocchi is really good at it
As someone who does voice overs, fantastic job man. Absolutely loved the flow of your presentation.
Thank you! I have literally no xp in doing audio of any kind outside of this haha so it's always something I'm trying to improve on and be attentive to, so thanks for the kind words.
what a great video, you really nailed why bocchi the rock is so good even for people outside the target audience (i couldn't because i fit it perfectly haha)
thank you so much! and shoutout your cover for letting me create my favorite part of this video v.v
@@VirtueRUclips thank you for using it ^^
Finally, someone who really gets it! Bocchi The Rock has moments which are universally relatable when you put all four of the band members together. I, personally relate to Ryo the most because I like being alone but I understand every character's personality. Bocchi is far too great a character for any random Johnny/Jill to be 'just like them, fr' because she has the dedication, the determination and the drive to overcome her fears, gain skills and improve her talent with an incredible amount of effort unlike most people. People calling this 'relatable' and moving on is just a disservice to how incredibly good the show actually is. Insane creativity and realistic depiction of being an artist are also major contributors to its greatness.
I think I'm a weird tangent to the target audience: I like (and usually _prefer_) Slice-of-Life, but I'm in no way introverted or subject to social anxiety. I don't personally relate directly to Bocchi, but the show depicts her so well that I think I have a better understanding of those types of anxiety.
But here's the thing: I'm also a lifelong gigging musician, and this show gets SO much right about being in a struggling "small" band. From instrument details to trying to design merch to the deflating experience of being the first band on the bill and having to start your set before anyone's shown up, pretty much every working musician has been there, done that. My Anime of the Year (in an incredibly packed year...).
it's cool how even without the connection to the show's band from my own experience, the music is still framed in a way that's powerful enough to draw out some real emotion. I appreciate your insight!
At this point, BtR is no longer a hidden gem with how popular it has become.
true, I think BtR is kinda known amongst anime fellas now but I still wouldn't call it mainstream so I'll keep that as the title for now.
@@VirtueRUclips I think that is a perfect title to attract people who still doesn't know about BtR.
@@ragnaxbloodedge Yeah, I thought about saying "this anime is NOT underrated" and then just acknowledging it's newfound popularity but felt too cheesy for a video where I was just praising it
Denji: you're cool bocchi
Bocchi: cyberpunk glich freakout
lmao
Good video, Jae.
thanks Kai !
Wow, this video was so good.
thank you !
The post-apocalyptic sports festival flashback HAS to be a trigun reference. What else?
someone said it was Fist Of The North Star!
@@VirtueRUclips ahh, that can also make sense. He's probably right since im only guessing
