It was 2003, at Bonnaroo, stumbling past some random tent, drunk off local brews, high from some weed and a couple of hydros…we heard a song that was just killer coming from the closest tent… it was MMJ playing Lowdown…. My brother and I were hooked at that moment… went back to ‘roo and saw them in ‘04, ‘05, (my bro made the epic ‘08 show), 2011, and Jim James solo in 2013, my last Bonnaroo. 5 times seeing them at that farm, as well as many other shows. Been my favorite band ever since that day in Bonnaroo 2003 when I saw James whilin! out to Lowdown in that tent, barefoot, swinging that long ass hair around on his Flying V…Then went on to play The Way That He Sings, Magheeta, Steam Engine and then my favorite Phone Went West. Didn’t know who they were one minute, then my favorite band the next minute, and still are over 18 years later…. I’ll tell my kids this story one day.
Thanks a ton for putting this together, it was an amazing show and I was super bummed that I had to leave before the encore (babysitter), so it's awesome seeing the last few songs!
How come this epic live has only 30,000+ views and 40 comments? I went to their very early gig in London in 2003. It was a relatively small venue but their energy was downright mind-blowing! Now MMJ's become one of the most awesome bands who could easily fill a big arena and I'm really happy about their integrity and creativeness.
You’re the only person I’ve seen comment on his voice sounding blown out at Forest Hills, but I agree with you. I didn’t notice it so much in person but it’s apparent when listening back to the show. Still a great show at Forest Hills on 9/11 despite that, but I agree he sounds much better here
I first saw mmj on DVD with Pearl Jam in Italy I think. Eddie Vedder and mmj doing a Who cover . I stumbled upon Monsters of folk and now watching these movies mmj live and they are my fave band now.. Big time.
Jim’s voice sounds stronger than it has in the last few years. Idk, maybe it was that whole fucking up his back business, or maybe I’ve always just caught them at the end of a long run of shows, but anyway, he sounds great.
Good to see them all growing some rock star hair again...They sound better with more Samson hair. However any show without Steam Engine bums the high of a true MMJ fan like me.
It doesn't matter how many times I hear Lay Low live -- brain melts every time.
Blew my mind at the electric forest, hooked
Our pup, Mr Tubbs, howled every time we wore out the DVD to this song!!! ❤
just wish the drummer actually played the drums
Same brother, same.

They have been so underrated or ignored 😔!! I love MMJ! My late hubby and I saw them several times live and they were excellent!

Thanks for the upload. I was writing about it.
mind [pewwwww] blown. These guys never stop being amazing.
I've been around live rock for 50 years. With MMJ, and a few others, it still lives.
I see what you did there. 😂🎯 I’m an old chunk of coal, myself, and I echo your succinct comment., Yim Yames & co. are the saviors of rock. Clearly.
Great video. Thank you. Amazing show and setlist too! War Begun, Dondante, and Lay Low, amazing!
They could headline the show with Dondante
Seeing them this Saturday. Can't wait!
Lucky People Who Get to see them 💘 live 🥰
Best band all around IMO.
So Glad I saw this show too in Charlotte NC

This is a great venue for a show. Saw them there back when we lived in DC. They sound as a great as ever. Thanks for recording!
Omg they sound even better live!
Incredible version of "Wasted" - underrated song. One of their best tracks from the last 10 years.

Nothing like the crowd singing "Wordless Chorus" live.
Wow! No wonder his voice was blown at Forest Hills. He sounds incredible here. Went all out on WC
