  • There's been a lot of talk surrounding Gateshead FC's recent troubles with Gateshead Council, and a lot of speculation that the owners of nearby Newcastle United are looking at ways to a stadium expansion at St. James Park - could the International Stadium be purchased & redeveloped to aid both clubs?

    I love the idea of the lasses, academy and Gateshead having their own stadium.

    As A Gateshead season ticket holder I for one think it is a great idea.
    As you said Gateshead have a lot of links withe the toon and it makes sence as both clubs would benefit in the long run.
    I hope that this could work as it would solve a lot of promblems for the future of Gateshead.
    Thanks again.

    Technically it is possible because they could squeeze in a 30,000 stadium for the nufc lasses and a smaller 18,000 seater stadium for Gateshead obviously you would have to fully demolish Gateshead stadium and the pitches at the back but you could easily fit 2 stadiums on that site. And Newcastle having a unlimited budget Gateshead could be a great feeder club and be in the nufc family

    As an MK Dons fan (as well as Newcastle) having 5k-8k fans in a 30k seater stadium isn't good for atmosphere. Given that Gateshead get much less than MK Dons, that wouldn't be financially viable for them. Maybe a 20k seater stadium would be better.

    • @daveseville7394
      @daveseville7394 21 день назад

      They could make it 40k then scale it down to 20k for Gateshead or 25k long term.. but just have it to 40k for Newcastle. In London Olympics I went to Hockey Stadium and it was permanent there's no reason Newcastle don't make it 40k with temporary seats and then they scale it down after St James redevelops.

    Great idea, the Lasses need a grass pitch if they eventually go up to the WSL, Kingston Park obviously not suitable.

    The lasses and u23's have played a few games at the GIS this season, so it would be great to get investment in the GIS from the Newcastle Owners

    I was kind of thinking of the same as you mate think it would be a win win situation. We all know for SJP to get redeveloped we will need to find a temporary home until it’s done.

    Basically buy gateshead for Gateshead to Use and Newcastle United women and Under 21s use that stadium as multi use winner all around plus sponsorship Newcastle United could bringe in Gateshead FC could benefit from Newcastle United youth set up by loaning development players to gateshead
    Use a Manchester City model to develop Gateshead stadium

  • @yanited1892

    I don't think it's possible to have the lasses playing there because they'll play on a Saturday in the Championship and if get promoted to the WSL. Their games would clash with Gateshead's.

    Buy the stadium upgrade it temp ground for us while st james park is demolished and new stadium built on the ground once its forfilled its purpose split it between gateshead the lasses and the under 21s.
    Plenty of land where gateshead stadium is.

    Could get higher capacity with one of those flat-pack stadiums they used in Qatar? Sure they're made to be modular so we could turn it into 20k when we go back to SJP, keep the rest in storage in case.
    Just name it Blaydon Park or some shite instead of Gateshead Stadium. It'll probably play better with our fans. There's loads of space there to develop it into more than a football ground too. Using the youth/women's complex to host gigs and general events would be a nifty FFP hack for us

    I found myself getting too excited watching this - it's a bl**dy excellent idea and it works on so many levels. Gateshead don't need anything too grand. The GIS is badly in need of maintenance and the whole situation has put Gateshead in limbo. Unless we get some sort of guarantee then i dont see where we go from here. Let's face it, without the lure of league football, what is the point of competing?

  • @stgeordie2638
    @stgeordie2638 2 месяца назад +1

      Kingston Park can be used to keep the lasses there. And there's nothing preventing from field to 4g with how modern pitches can rotate? Dunno its an idea. There's also plenty of land behind the stadium too.

      @@newcastlefanstv Just saying the Tory government has slashed council budgets by 30 to 40 % over 10 years. Its happened across the Council. Several have gone bankrupt - Northampton, Croydon being two. There is always room for context. Personally, Newcastle should invest into Gateshead as a club to loan their youngsters out especially if they get promoted into League 2. Competitive football for the kids and they are not too far away. Make sense.

    A football club without its own stadium, is not a football club.
    Gateshead can’t afford to run their own stadium, on their poor crowds, so have to lease, not a sustainable situation.
    The stadium is losing £860,000 a year, why should the council fund the football club. Here’s an idea, Gateshead buy the stadium?
