This figure was some straight Hasbro level f*ckery. I couldnt even believe how cheap this looked even in the promos.
The one thing that does kill me about McFarlane figures is that they literally have a mostly similar articulation setup as a Storm Collectibles figure. Its just so poorly implemented that you never get the full benefit of the "diaper" because the plastic is a bit too hard for it to work.
I’ve never had an issue with that. The diaper piece is incredibly useful for acrobatic poses. Especially for characters like Nightwing.
What? The diaper piece hasn't been hard for like 2+ years, now it is almost all made out of soft rubber, the only problems are that something the upper part is too high and lower part are too low
@@SpicyPsyDuck That's true. But the rubber itself isnt as soft as it needs to be in any case. If you collect Storm Collectibles AND McFarlane, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.
@@ReeceHoward06I do, their crotch piece usually cut around the leg, where Mcfarlane usually cover the top of the leg. IMO that's the problem.
@@SpicyPsyDuck It's the main problem. It wouldn't be a problem if either it was cut as you suggested OR the plastic itself was soft enough to not impede its function.
The promo images showed how bad this figure was going to be, and it's exactly as I thought it would be. I truly believe this company COMPLETELY skips the pre-production stage and goes from digital render to production.
Its a shame because most issues are easy fixes that would not even cost them more money, just employees with experience and effort.
I’ve been saying for months now it’s simple things. My biggest being accessories for these figures. Very baron. I love the titans nightwing figure but you get zero swappable hands and no weaponry like his eskrima sticks. Nothing. So 30 dollars for a figure to stand there with nothing. Can even switch out hands from another figure cause they won’t match up. There’s so many figures that are like this. Simply if they added the extra effort of accessories and hell even wired capes which they are starting too do but it’s been a very long time coming.
Man, Mcfarlane is really Hit or Miss, They made some great figures Like The barbarian Batman ,Black manta, Ocean master. Even The upcoming Owlman looks nice. Wtf
The shoulder cap not even trying to continue the yellow is just unacceptable. It makes this figure look quarter-assed.

I really wish I could get into this line. I want to have cool DC characters on display where I’m not spending over $100 per figure like I do with other character series. But I just can’t get into McFarlane figures. I only have 2 (Knightfall Bats and Wonder Woman). It’s the way he designs his figures that turns me off. The soft sculpt, the weird proportions, the weird design choices. the weird accessory choices like trigger hands for Wonder Woman, the articulation that’s good in theory but doesn’t work; most of them just aren’t good figures to me and I low key can’t blame people for wanting to buy them since there aren’t any other budget friendly options out there for DC characters. It’s a shame.
McFarlane makes the best DC figures out there. They might not always have a ton of paint, but they more than make up for that with sculpt and articulation. Just about every figure has great sculpts with tons of detail and textures. I’ve never seen any other dc figures that have such highly detailed textures on fabrics like McFarlane does. And the articulation has always worked fine for me. I’m an action figure photographer and I’ve been able to get their figures in plenty of poses.

I have given up on McFarlane with each new release it seems they are putting less and less effort in these figures. Better off just getting a mafex .
They are toys disguised as collectibles I think. have a few due to low price but to imagine the team responsible are collectors and care lots about the quality of the final product going into fellow collectors hands is very hard, impossible. Anthony, your honesty on every detail is exactly what collectors need when buying products btw, cheers.
The low price can go so far if the quality is bad, Jada figures prove that. I realky think Mcfarlane should take notes from Mafex and do like 2 waves per year based on different storylines like Hush, Knightfall, Under the Red Hood etc so effort could be put into the sculpt, paint and accessories. Todd could do that because, at least compared to Hasbro, he actually puts out more unique sculpts although most of them ar meh.
I mean look at the ab crunch (I think). How cheap does that look where it goes top to lower abs, it looks like snapped off plastic

That's just the issue with your American "domestic" toys, they can't be adult collectibles because you guys will gawk at anything that's not at 20-30 dollar price point. Unless you guy stop clutching your cheap ass kid's toys and adopt the collecting habit of the asian collectors, this is not gonna change.

McFarlane slipping further into complacency with this release. It is such a shame, too. These Multiverse figures are so disproportioned, the nappies are too big, and the articulation is naff. McFarlane really sh*t (pardon my potty mouth!) the bed with this figure.

Mc Farland figures -with a very few exceptions - pose like shit, handle like shit, their QC is shit and even in vanilla pose they look awkward. Sure they have good sculpts sometimes and they used to be slightly cheaper than the other major competitor but even that seems to belong to the past as their prices are ever increasing. Say what you want about greedy Hasbro. They sure as hell can't do ''ball'' joints like Anthony points among other things but they are improving ever slowly in figure design I think, and the creative teams seem willing to listen to criticism sometimes. I can guarantee you Todd doesn't give a fuck about his figures as long as they sell. The man is a comics legend but if his past course is any evidence every criticism on Hasbro applies to him doubly so...

Wow, I really believed the Marvel Legends team had given up, but this riDICKulously sad excuse for a character some collectors had been waiting for is the epitome of laziness. Thanks for your review and good luck with the painting. Could you imagine the look on your face when the brand manager assigns you another Batman to work on?
My favorite Night Wing has got to be Young Justice.
At least you *can* improve the articulation if you're willing to do some cutting. I don't mind having bigger gaps and seams on a figure if it means better range. Unfortunately, you can't simply fix proportions

I can't wait for your action figure line to come out. As critical as you are on your reviews,yours should be perfection and have no issues what so ever. Oh yea,you also have to keep them at a $20-$25 dollar price range. You said it yourself there is no excuse why a company can't make an excellent figure for that price. I'm actually a fan of the slightly armored, red and black. It kinda keeps a bit of the Robin aesthetic. But, my second favorite would be the blue version that you like. So Anthony, I've been thinking about this... how do you think these McFarlane "diapers" are going to hold up over time? I kinda feel like they'll discolor and/or deteriorate after 20 or so years... but admittedly, I don't know plastics and such, as much as you do. Sik
This is a major concern of mine as well. Also, the figures where the entire torso is made of that same soft diaper material. Are these just going to crumble to pieces eventually?

One of the biggest problems to me is that it is based on the depiction by the late Norm Breyfogle and not on Brian Stelfreeze in which the card artwork is based on.

Got it but didn't remove, yet. Glad he is not very bulky or even mad ripped as some artist draw him differently especially in the 90's. There are major flaws but am very picky and far from a volume collector. Going to pretend that DC Multiverse is from the 90's and would be impressive for that time and get that total nostalgia but will limit the price tag to almost like back in the day.
5:18 Yeah that's a problem I had with the MAFEX Nightwing's ball-hinge wrists. Normally nigh-universal, those things, but that particular Nightwing costume is the rare exception because of how his blue lines run across shoulders to knuckles. Not as bad what's happening here though.
Would’ve liked to see size comparison to this from other figures or even mafex figures
This is my favorite design of Nightwing and I'm glad it's here as a figure, even if it's got... major issues. Belt and head are accurate to most of the artwork of this design, but all the yellow bits absolutely needed to be sculpted.
It looks like a lazy Hasbro repaint. Only difference is this came with more than two hands.
Would love to see you review their DC "Classic" Superman.

Mcfarlane should have stayed with the ball joint wrist and should just do a disk hinge for ankles, this sculpted wrist and ankle stuff is ridiculous and unnecessary. Why try to reinvent the wheel stick with what has a proven track record.
I don’t absolutely hate this costume for Nightwing, I think it would work better without the multiple shades of blue. My favorite personally is the red and black suit because the red is a good callback to his tenure as Robin. My only complaint is I wish it had a belt.
I don't mind either the modern, tactical suit Nightwing or the classic 80s Disco suit version with the popped collar. This 90s version was an awkward halfway house between the two that's not as good as either look.
My favourite Dick is the modern look, black with the blue or red, I don’t really mind which. I like this look for Dick though and would be happy for Mafex to take a stab at it, which seems like a no brainer seeing as they’ve started the Knightfall line and have most the parts they’d need to make a decent Dick.

Usually the only times McFarlane will give us a new sculpt is if it's from a BAF wave.
I preorder this before they reveal promo images and I'm really disappointed, so I'll be selling mine or butchered it for my customization.

I've been saying how bad this look. It seemed like nobody cared about the yellow thingy wrapped around his chest when the preorder came up. It looks so weird when it's 2-dimensional and drawn like that. I prefer that section to be sculpted and wish it was a separate piece. Nice belt. Head sculpt looks good to me, I think it looks great. Belt has nice sculpt, just needs shading. Base body is alright. It's not worth any more than $23, so don't spend any more than that. It's not that good.
4 years and mcfarlane keeps taking Ls . Hasbro looks like import figures compared to this shit. Jada toys is our last hope at saving domestic collectible figures

McFarlane did a throw away figure. Beyond the chest area being sculpted horribly, the yellow wing things at the top and on the wrists should be sculpted off of the figure like the belt. I’m surprised he didn’t paint the belt on too. It should have gotten a 2/10. Not even close to the source material.
That chest thing feels as if they pulled a Hasbro (being just painted rather than sculpted) and somehow worse

Not disagreeing with you, this is a lazy figure, but the problem is that it SHOULD be a lazy figure, they were just TOO lazy. I did some research, pulled out my Knighfall comics.
The belt is right. Idk where they got the card art drom, but whatever. The hair is acceptable, he's had that and a mullet. The BIG issues are the yellow "armor" parts. The chest armor is really just like the Green Ranger's shield. All they had to do is use this body, and make a chest shield, as well as arm and leg armor and just glue them on.
My favorite suit of Nightwing is the black suit from Young Justice series.
Do you think McFarlane is going to handle this license the way they handled the Halo license back in the day? That is, with minimal improvement over the years and ending sloppily before the IP gets handed off to someone else? It's been odd seeing them go from a terrible first few waves to some decent waves and then back to more mediocrity. The quality is all over the place and it doesent seem like they'll ever fix some things like the heavy ratchets and forward crunch on the diaphragm joint. They have put out some good figures but I can't help but notice there might be a trend with the way McFarlane handles improvement.

I wish the yellow chest piece would’ve been sculpted on instead of painted on, but I think he looks fantastic. Knightfall is one of my favorite Batman storylines, so I love any time McFarlane does a knightfall figure.
Complacency would be a good word to define MFT as of late. They look better when not posed but even then, better buy a statue at that point. That piece of plastic they put before the shoulder joint makes no sense. Plus it is not textured or painted to match the aesthetics so it is pointless. They think they can “fill gaps” when most of the articulations is hot garbage. No better than ML with the ab crunch and ruined double ballpeg.

How does the same company give us a pretty damn good Batman & Robin line and drop the ball with this? I love Knightfall and was looking forward to this… but I canceled my preorder.
I mean with the B&R line the red paint from Dicks bird goes on the weird shoulder pad things and onto the shoulders.. this has them being blank? Blah.
If Todd doesn't want you in his company then he could at least listen to your criticism and improve his products. 😓

The most annoying thing about macfarlane as they seem to be doing great with the warhammer stuff. Looks wise they really look like warhammer and seem good enough action figure wise.

McFarlene is taking a page right out of the marvel legends book. Just using deco for the costume instead of actually sculpting it. Leaving the figure looking cheap as hell. Terrible.

This figure really angered me. I LOVE this original Nightwing costume , designed by George Perez for the New Teen Titans comic series. While the card illustration isn't quite on point - this figure just BLOWS!!! Sad, and typical for McFarlane toys (would have bought several if they got this one right)

Mcfarlane is wayyy better off just doing new sculpts rather than trying to hasbro repaint/reuse sculpts. This is the blue beetle body but made worse and painted poorly
Dang this thing is a disappointment. Easily could have just molded the yellow parts of the suit. There’s so much awesome sculpting in the lesser know characters, and they don’t invest in the figures they know will sell regardless, like this one😢

I like this version and the black and blue costume the most. I hope we get a mafex of this costume cause this figure is insanely bad. Its a rough time to be a domestic collector with the 2 main players being hasbro and mcfarlane. GI Joes, most neca stuff and jada are the MVPs (which is crazy because hasbro make gi joes)

The articulation on McFarlane figures are all horrendous, and people try to defend it saying the sculpt is at least good but then they are talking about releases like this 😂 they are all a 1/10 for me the whole point of an action figure is the ACTION
I am ambivalent towards Dick… just never was a fan tbh. The figure looks like trash and the character is meh for me so easiest pass ever.
