AR is going to be as big as VR soon enough. Being able to walk around and seeing digital stuff in your vision while being able to see reality as well will be the future.
AR will bypass VR fast yea … especially when it comes to content creation as developers don’t have to create worlds just the assets that are put in the real world.
Just imagine the metriccrapton of advertising that would proliferate with ar. If you thought mobile ads or internet popups were bad justpictre all that whilst your just going about your normal business.
Your projection would be bendy. Experiment , take a flashlight , point at flat paper, then bend paper. That's what will happen. So for larger fov they will need more projectors and eye Tracking so image is crisp
I can imagine how a frame could be made that would allow screens to be adjustable for Ipd and a larger fov can be accomplished with curved lenses. The light get's curved passing through your pupil, it's a matter of balancing the curve just as they do with prescription lenses. Prescription lenses are made to accommodate all sorts of irregularities. The problem is the bean counters are in charge. I realize financial considerations have to be made but it shouldn't be prioritized to the point that a product is hopelessly compromised. Moron's.
I've made a pair of DIY AR glasses that use constellation tracking (it tracks an IR pattern on my ceiling) and is a visor style. Other than the fact that my phone screen has a resolution of 480p it works great. I use it mainly for looking at 3D models, in 3D.
AR will be way bigger than VR. Once the hardware and the software (mostly the machine learning related stuff meant to seamless integrate virtual components into real environments) matures, AR is gonna be an every day kind of tech similar to how smartphones are today.
Weird facts: NReal is a Chinese company, but their first consumer release was in Korea. The odd part is, they've released their glasses in 5 countries, including the US this month, but have not released in China yet 🤣🤣🤣 I really hope you make another video to talk about the other features of the glasses, including using Nebula, some Mixed Reality apps, and the native android app support. That's one of the major features. And hopefully use a consumer version with a phone, because that's how it was designed to be used. The Devkit has a real small controller and was not meant for everyday use.
A very honest review. I used to be quite hyped for a pair of these, but as time wore on, and I read mixed reviews, I have come to realize that I can wait for the next version, or perhaps a different brand altogether.
I like AR but more for a work tool. I can honestly see many jobs where AR improves the job. like I work as a hydroponics grow manager always having to look at my phone for everything in the farm but if I had AR set up to where I could see a digital system where ever I looked my job would be a thousand times easier. I would 100% buy AR if it gets to that point
Just gonna wait for Cambria lol. This reminds me of when i tried HoloLens 2 for the first time and it was sooo wack. The fov was a joke. Colored passthrough seems so much more promising.
Surprised people are just now learning about these, they have been around for a few years now. With the new high quality micro oled displays being made any new ar tech should be way clear, but trust me the nreal is way better visually than the ms hololens. I cant wait for the software to allow the tr.acking to work on windows.
I think the Lynx which launched at $600 and does AR and VR has a much bigger development group behind it. It's not quite as small of a form factor, but it's still quite the piece of tech. I'd love to see a video on it someday
With the nreal air recently released, I’m SUPER pumped, and I plan on getting my hands on one as soon as I can, and especially as soon as there are cool creative/productivity apps available for the glasses! I’m dreaming of one day being able to create my own personal Roger Rabbit world using my own cartoon OCs mixed with my real life environment all in real time, both as creating said drawings and FX with the nreal air, and importing my creations into the glasses from my tablet or MacBook! And of course, I’d love to record the footage as well, or possibly cast the live footage on an external device!!! I really really hope that kind of stuff will be available soon!!!
Touching the information world with your physical body feels like magic. Now imagine touching the 'real world' with your information self as a way of life and integrating the two concepts into one paradigm where mind and matter and energy are one by default with advancements being a matter of uninterrupted time. The universe is young still, but old enough for this to have happened already many times.
I just started watching your videos and wasn't expecting to see you in real life. You seem so sweet and adorable, I hope you see this comment and have a wonderful day~
Thanks for the skinny. Really interested in these things but a bit worried about how slow the company has been to get them out. I'm in Aus and as far as I know they are not available here but considering the price and limitations I don't know if I could justify getting them anyway? Been learning 3D modelling and Unity for a little while and I would like to see what I could do with them. Probably be a little while yet before I could do that though?
Hmm, not sure about a portal game, wouldn't you run into a wall trying to go through the portal, maybe if it's a small portal, still I can see people getting injured or broken hands as they try to reach through the portal to grab something.
@@onidaaitsubasa4177 Most VR headsets warns you when you're close to a real object (like a wall or table) while wearing the headset. I think in the Oculus Quest appears as a 3D mesh inside the game. But this wouldn't be a problem in AR, because you're watching the real world around you with just some virtual objects in it.
I would say it probably is purposefully less accessible to Consumers because they know the technology isn't Consumer ready yet and they don't want to mess up the image of augmented reality Tech by putting out a product to that would feel lackluster to Consumers and cause interest in the industry to drop
I saw the room you were testing in was basically white and black. Did you get the chance to check for colour saturation/accuracy when you have say a rendered yellow object with a blue object in real life behind it? is it still yellow? or is it then green? I guess it would be how opaque they managed to get the rendered content. I'm still very much on the fence mostly due to the limited FOV as I can write my own software for it for my purposes. It would also be useful to know how they hold up when used outside in bright sunlight.
If you're planning to develop on it, then I'd highly recommend getting one. The SDK is still maturing but it has a lot of features you can play with like hand tracking and image tracking. I got mine on March and I haven't put it down since 😁 being a developer gives you the advantage of getting more out of tech than others 😋
Do you think you'll be getting the AR + VR Lynx standalone headset? I backed the Kickstarter for the augmented reality and so I can throw out (ie: sell) my Quest and hopefully never give "meta" another dollar
