Do you know if small tattoos are allowed in the 9 onsens? The staff at our upcoming lodging said it is okay, but I've heard otherwise in the past regarding signs that state against it. Just wanted to figure that out to be respectful! Thanks!

Hi, my wife has a small tattoo and the staff said if she covers it up then she can use the onsens. We wrapped a small cloth around her arm and they were ok with that.

Hi, if you are staying at one of the Shibu Onsen Inns, then all of the public onsen are included. If you are not staying as a guest then you can only use one of the public onsen for an entrance fee.

My wife and I stayed over night in April (it snowed) and were given keys to access all the 9 baths, which we used.
