Wow... The new look of TLY is so modern!! I barely recognize the 1st floor.
I lived on 5th floor for two years, 2003-2005, and then "occupied" a table in the lobby for another 4 years until I graduated from "ben ke" 本科. There I met students from many countries.
I shared a room with another student. We bought a small fridge after we lost 10 cups of yogurt that we put in the communal refrigerator in the kitchen. Hot water was free. Once a week cleaning done by ayi was free. Internet was free. Main entrance was open 24/7.
There was ayi to help us do our laundry in a kiosk located before the main entrance. If I remember correctly, I paid ¥4 per load for washing & drying which I did weekly.
In the canteen, fresh "la mian" with soup and a few pieces of thinly sliced beef meat was ¥2.80 per bowl. When I left Shanghai in 2010, it cost ¥5.
I was there on the last day of the old TLY. Every floor was full of students and TLY's ex inhabitants!😁
