Fun discount tip nobody seems to talk about: get an amazing deal on a squad of Immortals and a Technomancer, with a ton of more-than-free bits that can get you a kitbash Plasmancer, by grabbing the Hierotek Circle kill team!
Of all the Failcast I've assembled, it's really not that bad. I've done two so far, they were both much easier than their metal cousins and I swapped the scythes with scratch built plastic ones to make them look a little scarier.
One of the most disappointing things in the Necrons 10th edition release is that they didn’t update Lokhust destroyers. They’re a very commonly used unit. They STILL have green rods. But more than that, I’m mad about how useless the annihilation legion detachment is.
I don't much care about the green rods, I just think their models don't look great. They look too...small? They don't look threatening at all, no armor, and their guns aren't big enough for how much (admittedly undersized) badonkadonk they're packing. The proportions are off, is what I'm trying to say.
There aren't many shenanigans with them but thematically I love Lychguard. Solid with an Overlord resing them while being cheaper than a lot of tanky units...
Probably because they face heavy competition from things like Destroyers, C'tan, Deathmarks, Acanthrites, etc. And also I guess it depends how many Scarabs a Court player is taking in their list.
Two reasons primarily: one, it's a really expensive model and not insignificant investment if you're not really really into collecting Necrons, and two, it's a really freaking big model (it dwarfs Questoris Knights) that's almost too unwieldy large to pilot and move around most tabletop terrain arrangements. It's almost more a terrain piece in its own right.
@@LifehackerIIIIndustries Fair enough. I was really hoping that there'd be a mechanical reason beyond unwieldy but everything in consideration it makes sense
I'm having a weird time with my Necrons this edition. They certainly feel FAR better than they were in 9th, and I'm glad they can be competitive without needing objective cheese. But the internal balance is so wildly inconsistent, and I'll still bitch about Lychguard being little better than Intercessors. I can't complain too much though. They're certainly far better to play than my Custodes at the moment, to say nothing of the general state of AdMech's existence. Better that GW fixes those first
I'd love to run Triarch Praetorians more, but they're just too much. I still love my lychguard though and Awakened Dynasty is still my bread and butter with a nice brick of skorpekhs chopping everything to pieces and lychguard still being a tough brick that kills any infantry they march into, shield wall locked. Very fun.
Not really a good data sheet, it is just a meat shield with stealth and fnp 5+. Its ability to redeploy 3 units in the deployment phase is nice but for damage it can do a max of 6 in ranged and 24 in melee with only strength 8. If anything it should have got a points cut in the recent points update.
Great timing I just started a list. And all my units are here. Silent king more situational - I think Lychgyard are doable. They're actually quite hard to kill. Main list though is quite solid.
Praetorians should be 90 points for 5 and skorpekh destroyers could use another point decrease or an invuln save. It seems better to just take the Lord by himself.
Ill be honest I am still missing all the fun from our index at launch. It definitely needed some things tuned down but my favorite play style is just rolling a silver tide forward and just sweeping over the board with warriors and that just isn’t viable anymore. I know hyper crypt and Canoptek Court are really good but I just dont own any of the things that are good
As someone mentioned in an earlier post, really it's the size. I can confirm this, as I played this in a tournament last weekend. I had a 50/50 win rate with it, but if your opponent has some fast moving, tanky, melee units, they can bring it down fast. Example, A squad of Custodes led by Trajan destroyed my TV turn 2, and it exploded, killing a good portion of my army (and killing few of my opponents models). In a more open battlefield, it can do well, but very difficult to move around a lot of buildings. It's also a pain to transport.
I'm still a fan of Awkenedd Dynasty despite all Crypteks all going up in points. The nature of the list pivoted now that Skorpek Lords went down to 80 points which grants Skorpekh Destroyrs a +1 to hit and access to some great Strats such as +1 Str and - 1AP in melee while giving them access to Protocol of the Undying Legion in the Shooting and Fight phase for triggering Reanimation using a D3+1. I actually dont mind taking 1 unit of 20 Warriors with either a Technomancer or Orikan in addition to an overlord with a Rez Orb sonve Warriors still get to reroll all dice related to triggering Reanimation. Szeras is still a good pick since he effects mutiple Battle Line units by giving them an extra AP and decreasing your opponent's AP by 1 making your immortals hitting on a 2+, making thier Armor Save a 2+ and thier Gauss Blaster's Str 5, AP -2 with 2 attacks. I like using a Plasmancer so Lethal Hits triggers on a 5+ in addition to his own strong ranged attacks plus some Mortal Wounds plus a Royal Warden which has a Relic Blaster that deals 2 damage per hit and shoots 4 times with RapidFire 2. I also like 1-2 wandering Reanimators depending on where they are needed most by gaining the Assault ability while advancing towards units that need thier help while still being able to shoot both of its gains for a total of 12 shots. ALso, it turns out that its healing Aura is more than 3" due to the Size of its base plus its quite durable with a 4+ FnP and if you decided to add a Technomancer to a blob of Warriors, you can place him near the rear ranks so he can heal the Reanimator for a D3 wounds Also with the points decrease to Catacomb Command Barges, I like to take 1 for its +1 OC Aura in addition to its Rez Orb which I specifically save for units which are not able to take characters. Lastly if I can fit in a Triarch Stalker just for the ability to Strip Cover sinec its so easy to gain right now plus I dont think I've evver seen a Melta gun with Melta 4 and a Flamer that that gets to Roll 2D6 auto hitting attacks with AP -1 ignoring cover while adding a unit of Spyders, and some Scarabs if points permitfor some Vehicle supportconsdering GW changed the Keywords for all the Canoptek Stalkers and other Canoptek units which used to have he monster keyword now have the Walker and Vehicle keywords which allows them to benefit from the Spyders vehicle supporting aura in addition to its 2 Particle casters which generate a massive amount of shots in addition to have Dev Wounds plus bringing back Scarabs after they explode dealing a flat 3 Mortal Wounds to any units with the vehicle keyword (otherwise its a d3 MWs). At thi point I've given up on Annihalyion Legion now that Awakened Dynasty has much better melee abilities between the +1 to hit, the Protocol of the Hungry Void,Protocol of the Undying Legions and you can further boost thier durability by giving the Skorpekh Lord the Ebchancement which gives the entire unit Stealth while thier are other Strats such as the one that grants the unit Assault which allows the Skorpekh Lord to Shoot his 18" Gun which also has Rapid Fire 2 while rerolling the advance dice to hel pthe unit get into charge rangewhile stile mainting the -1 to shoot them as they run up the board which should help them get into combaata faster where they become immune to being the target of any nasty shooting attacks. I still wish Lychguard with Scythes were able to take Orikan or a Chrononmancer for the extra move in addition to a Overlord with Translocation Shroud which boosts thier move to 11" while they also gain an additional 5" after the Chronomancer resolves his shooting attacks. Another tech piece I am about to play test after recently building my 3rd Psychomancer sine he did not gain any points increases is attaching 3 of them to a unit of either 20 Warriors on foot with a Viel of Darkness in order to take advantage of his new aura that forces all enemy units within 6" that are under Full Str in your opponents Cpmmand Phase to force a Battle Shock test with a with a -1 penalty which works great with the Viel in aadition to his 18" ability to force a Battle Shock test in your Command Phase, Movement Phase, or Shooting Phase with a -1 Penalty which makes it a lot more useful if you an score a Battle Shock test in your COmmand Phase which prevents enemy unit from using any strats as well as lpotentially losing any control of any Primaries which also justifies bring along a Ghost Arknow that it can carry 10 Warriors plus 1 Character for a 2nd Battle Shock test while alsoadding another 6" foot printin oder to trigger battle shock tests during your opponent's command Phase while the 3rd Psychomancer hangs back guarding any Primaries near your deployment zone. Something to mention here is that Psychomancers provide zero support to his unit of Body Guards, he can still potentially give his unit some special abilities via the use of enchancements...in addition to adding a 2nd character such as a Royal Warden so your unit can Fall Back, shoot and charge towards a different direction in order to taje adtage of the Psychomancer's 18" Battshock ability in the shooting Phase in addition to trying to optimize his 6" foot printwhich can trigger a battle shock test ij your opponents Command Phase. (Overlords withs Translocation Shrouds can help by adding an additional 6" advance which allows them to ignore other units an obstales placing your unit in places which otherwize may not have been able to reach plus giving the unit access to My Will Be Done, and a Rez Orb. The Psychiomancer has a crappy 1 attack that usually hits on a 4+, but at least the detachment rule makes it a 3+ which is a Str 6 Shot with -3 AP and 3 Damage plus it uses the same weapon characteristics in the Fight Phase. Immortals can potentially boost his shot with thier ability to reroll Wound rolls of 1 or reroll the entire wound rollif tagaetting a unit on an objective. Rearding Warriors, GW needs to undo some of the major over corrections they have made which mostly targeted Warriors, by just giving them a flat D6, no silly reanimation rolls such as the prior D3+3 for being on objectives in addition to nerfing the Str of Gauss Reapers when they should have given Flayers a slight buff since theyhave no AP in addition to only having 1 ranged attack at 24" plus Rapid Fire 1requiring them to bwithin 12" in order to fire it twiceby buffing its base ranged attacks to 2 shots and dropping Rapid FIre 1 like they did with the Immortals Gauss Blaster.
It's too bad about the Monolith. I was honestly hoping it would make the list, seeing as it can be so central to HCL lists, which were the top contender detachment, for a while, and considering the number of those Stratagems that seem to focus on the floating death pyramid, I was hoping, as I have fond memories of of both the Oldcron Monolith, and the huge investment, HUGE middle finger to opponents-variant, from the DoW series. Still, I suppose they are a bit big, and expensive, to be spammed in every list, and probably a bit harder to proxy, like say Eldar Shadow Spectres may have been, back when they didn't exist, in the wild, but most lists had several units of them. So, this might be an odd, pointless question, for here, but what is the best "Phaeron-approximate" unit in Necrons, right now? If I were going to collect Necrons, I would still certainly commit to Hypercrypt, as movement powers, and shenanigans, are some of my favorite abilities. I think I would try to go Nephrekh color scheme, and have different metal skeletons having different amounts of gold chassis, instead of the regular bolt gun metal, or whatever, and thus their "leader" would be similar to Sylphek, and all gold, but I don't know what leader unit is popular, with the C'Tan, Monoliths, and support characters all scoring higher? Would it just be an Overlord, or some other Warlord candidate?
I'd be totally fine with how Necrons are right now, if not for the sheer amount of free rerolls, often full. And the stupid toughness most units have with often both a really good invul and fnp.
Necrons have always been my fav, but they seem to have been going through an identity crisis in terms of aesthetics for a while now A lot of the models look badass, some look better than they used to, others look worse, and some even look cutesy (moustache praetorians 21:25 / scarabs / wraiths) 😮💨

They look amazing lol but I guess it’s from my time of playing hahah I’ve had mine since third edition.
Same here, those things look like trash.
They are super ugly. If I needed them for an army I'd proxy them or spend some time 3d printing conversions.

All hail the Infinite Empire!
Genuinely curious why Spyders aren't played more in canoptek court.
Probably because they face heavy competition from things like Destroyers, C'tan, Deathmarks, Acanthrites, etc. And also I guess it depends how many Scarabs a Court player is taking in their list.
The spyders not having an invul save makes them squishy. From my experience they die really fast before they can do much because they are so slow.
The Tesseract Vault looks so fun, it's a shame it doesn't get used much. I wonder why that is, anyway
