- Follow us on another delicious $5 lunch challenge adventure! This week, we look for cheap and healthy unprocessed foods to prepare a filling meal. We head to the grocery store and start hunting. After finding some baby spinach on sale, we go with the idea of a Thai mango salad. We find tomatoes, limes, and we take some liberties by getting free salt and pepper packs from a Mr. Sub sandwich shop. Then we head to Bulk Barn for seasoning: crushed chilli pepper flakes and dried cranberries. Should these be allowed in an unprocessed food challenge, or is it cheating? Either way, we end up with a nutrition filled, colourful, and mouth watering vegetarian Thai Mango Salad for under five dollars!

"processed by nature" fair play LOL
no lies 😅
Some foods need to be processed to be safe to eat like Cassava and horseradish. I like the idea of whole foods though and I think this was a great example
Cassava doesn't need to be processed, there's varietys you can clean at home.
@@kayynnnn ? After you clean them you still need to cook them to avoid poisoning yourself.
But you can eat horseraddish right out the soil? You just have to wash it 😅
Yeah and some veggies like carrots are actually healthier when cooked bc the vitamins that give us benefits are more bioavailable (easier to digest and assimilate by the body)
People have such a misconception of that processed means. Cutting something is processing.
I thought she said Whole Foods edition and I was like what and then I understood as I was watching.. pretty cool
Those dried cranberries look like the kind made with sugar. I so wish you could have a guest with a nutrition background help you on the next segment!
we try to do our best! unprocessed can be a wide range so we took some liberties 😅
Killed it 🎉🎉🎉
That looks so good omg I'm getting hungry
I love this woman
such a beautiful voice i ever heard
Cranberries are processed, they’re always sweetened either with sugar or apple juice
Isn’t everything in the grocery store processed..? I mean like- they have to go to factories to get packaged, making everything processed (fruits and veggies not in containers mostly not) if anything’s in a package or bag, it’s processed right-?
that looks fireee, but what abt protein?
@streetcents Where do you live where the stores are like that where you can just scoop dry cranberry’s and seasonings?
Pretty common in Canadian grocery stores to have a bulk section.
Can you do one under 5 dollars at one store?
I was eating a salad when i found this lol
That's expensive converted to our currency 😅😅.. But it is fresh❤❤❤
I would have put beans on the salad and mixed some of the lime juice with the bean water.
I would eat that several times a week.
Processed by nature 😂. I need to try this salad.
0g protein, 0g fats.
A little bit of carbs from the mango mostly.
And most of the bulk is water.
You paid five bucks to be hungry again in half an hour.
I know these are silly challenges. But if these are trying to be actual lunch options, then they could have some substance in them.
Soy lectin? Like the protein used for gelatins? I think that’s pretty normal
best one yet
🤘
soy lecithin is an emulsifier and preservative derived from soy beans. If you don't have a soy allergy, it's fine.
Tbh a lot of people misunderstand some chemicals in the foods which will not affect to their body at all, and some preservatives even save not only products shelf life but also nutrients
But if you're scared of harmful chemical you should check every products ingridient and google them, cuz "if I can't pronounce it then I probably should not put it in my body" is stupid
this!! just bc ingredients were added to something doesn't immediately mean it's bad. soy lethicin is literally natural, too, it's just extracted from soybean oil. soybean oil is extracted with a chemical, but, again, chemicals and added ingredients ≠ bad. also, literally just washing or pasteurizing food counts as processing. you can literally die if you drink raw milk or eat unwashed vegetables. i get what the video means, but i wish people would better understand how the food industry works sometimes. like, people "process" food at home all the time. most things have to be to be considered edible or safe. but there's a difference between all processed food and processed food that had sugar, chemicals, etc. unnecessarily loaded into it. moderation is key!!!
I love this series
we love doing this series 😎
it looks good, but without a protein source, i feel like it wouldn't keep me full
I think edamame would be perfect for this salad
I'm not even in the same continent and I'm obsessed with these!
this looks SO GOOD
can u do a $5 halal food only challenge?🎀
Can you do a $5 halal lunch (idk if you’ve done it)
it's coming soon 👀
You are Amazing 🤩 👏❤️
thank you!!! 🥰
wot is the point tho? soy lecithin is a fine preservatives. theres literally no need for this. but congratulations, u got me to engage
Just because you cannot read the ingredients, doesn't mean it's bad for you.
Yay! I've been hoping for a whole food challenge! Thank you for sharing!
Would NEVER fill me up that’s not a meal that’s a snack but like even lower in energy than an actual snack
If anyone wants to know lecithin is a phospholipid found in our alveolar wall which acts as a surfactant
Finally, an actual $5 challenge! All the other creators use other stuff that are worth more than their budget nowadays.
Soy lecithin? Don't do it
No protein.
U can buy regular rice and just cook a little
Pov americans trying to eat real food :
Do only kosher food
technically, whatever food you get is going to be processed those potatoes you picked up processed. Every food is processed and it doesn’t make it bad. apples are processed and washed So most fruits and vegetables
Loved this!! Please do a gluten free version if you haven’t already (although I guess this one already is accidentally!)
You could add a can of tuna (which is processed because it's canned, but its single ingredient, so I'd say its fine) which should cost about $1 (in the US anyway). That way, there's protein in the meal.
Get balsamic vinegar. It makes everything more delish.
You should do one in America
no
This is a channel about Canada
You can probably apply most of the food dishes to the USA what? The price may be a bit different but like there's a lot of countries you can use your imagination
You should do 10 dollar challenge Costco edition
Girl, if your imagination of "whole foods only lunch" is a protein-less salad I kinda feel bad for you. Not even enough carbs on that plate to keep your energy up, just greens adding volume and some fruit sugars there. Please add an egg and some carbs of your choosing. If you have been eating lunch like these and wonder why are your energy levels so LOW after noon, this is one of the reasons why
M’am, that’s an appetizer
4 for $2 is crazy
That looks amazing
looks good
Do an lunch of 5 dollars for 2 persons!
