My original top 3 was exile which I think is now my fav Taylor song, mad woman, and invisible string but loved hoax, epiphany, cardigan, and my tears ricochet peace is moving up on my favorites list - I just love “I’d give you my sunshine, give you my best, but the rain is always gonna come if you’re standing next to me” And I love the melody of the chorus in august and I love the bridge in illicit affairs “don’t call me kid, don’t call me baby, look at this god forsaken mess that you made me” and now the last great American dynasty makes me cry just bc I’m so proud of her like she wrote a story about the woman owning her favorite house. She did that. Who would think to do that. And every time she says “and then it was bought by me” I die. I love hoax. I love it so much. “I stood on the cliffside screaming give me a reason” and also “it still hurts under my scars from where they pulled me apart, but what you did was just as dark.” I love epiphany. I love that epiphany is about her grandfather in war and Covid and BLM. Exile is my number one fav Taylor song. Ever. I think The 1 is about all of her exes and what if they had been fun and the melody is so fun and the line “if one thing had been different, everything would be different”. I love mad woman. I love “and you poke that bear til her claws come out” and “wanting me dead obviously brought you two together.” I love invisible string so much. I love “all this time there was an invisible string tying you to me” and “a string that pulled me out of all of the wrong arms into that dive bar.” I love love love how catchy august is. I can’t get over “when I felt like an old cardigan under someone’s bed, you put me in and said I was your favorite.” Battle ships sinking. The imagery. The IMAGERY. Her saying she’s a mirror ball standing over everyone else dancing showing them who they are. Seven being about a friend. THIS IS ME TRYING like FUCKKKK I can’t even it’s definitely about her disappearing and thinking that was what we wanted and regretting it. My tears ricochet is not only sonically a masterpiece but the digs at big machine records??? “Cursin my name, wishin I stayed” and “stolen lullabies” and “you wear the jewels I gave you as you bury me” are her ALBUMS Also I have a theory I haven’t seen a lot of people talking about and it’s heartbreaking and hopefully not true but in peace she says “give you my wild, give you a child” and she sounds pained and then in hoax she says “my barren land” and I feel like it could be a reference to a miscarriage or infertility struggles :( Betty, august, and cardigan being a trilogy of a love triangle from each persons perspective where cardigan is from bettys perspective years later, august is from inezs perspective and Betty is from James perspective and also the HARMONICA in Betty like she brought back yeehaw and it’s so good and the whole album is just soooo poetic like every line is so good and I really really think this is my favorite album. I made the decision after listening to this album that I was also getting a Taylor Swift tattoo, still not sure what, but I’m totally getting one. The Last Great American Dynasty is about the former home owners of Taylor's Rhode Island house. socialite Rebekah Harkness . Rebekah married Bill, a rich man who owns a oil company. Bill had a heart attack and died and the neighbors blamed her, the town never liked her anyway cause she was a "middle class divorceé". after the incident she never went to her Rhode Island house again. she started to travel with some "friends" living a lush life, she was even friends with Salvador Dalí. the holiday house was 50 years empty until Taylor bought it. and that's the story that Taylor tells in this song. so it's all a true story about Rebekah.

Vintage tee is the debut album and brand new phone is fearless ❤️ She had a merch or sold a vintage tshirt during her debut album yrs and 2008 to 09 which is fearless is the start of teenagers wanting cellphones or start of digital age
I don't think most of the songs are about her, they're just stories she created about some characters (hence the title folklore). Also in all her previous albums, the cover was a close up of her coz they were her stories, but in this the cover is more about the surroundings she observed whimsically, and hence the songs are more about the stories she experienced in her surroundings so not about her.

Tracklist- The one- Betty looking back in life and thinking of James. Cardigan - also Betty's POV. Looking back after 20 years or so. The last great American dynasty - Betty (Rebekah harkness) leaves town and moves to Rhode Island and marries bill. Their mansion is now owned by Taylor. Exile- the back and forth between James and Betty. It's their conversation. My tears ricochet - this is after James dies. It's his funeral. Mirrorball- this is about the other girl and James. Also could be about when Betty meets bill. Seven- when Betty and James were kids. Now she's looking back. August- POV of the other girl. This is me trying- this is James singing to Betty. Trying to make up for everything. Illicite affairs - James and the other girl. This is about their affair. Invisible string - inspired by Taylor and Joe. Mad woman - about Rebekah (Betty) as they used to call her the maddest woman. But also inspired by Taylor herself. For the people who have wronged her. Epiphany - James joins the army and later on dies. Betty on the other hand is going through her own shit in life. Betty - pretty obvious this is James's POV. Peace- this is Betty and her husband or probably James (I'm a little confused) but yes also inspired by Taylor and Joe themselves. Hoax- this is Betty dealing with James's death. So there it is. I mean the album is much deeper than this but I've put it in the simplest of the words here. No one is gonna read it but if you do then I hope it helps. Epiphany - James joins the army and later on dies. Betty on the other hand is going through her own shit in life.
Betty - pretty obvious this is James's POV.
Peace- this is Betty and her husband or probably James (I'm a little confused) but yes also inspired by Taylor and Joe themselves.
Hoax- this is Betty dealing with James's death.
So there it is. I mean the album is much deeper than this but I've put it in the simplest of the words here. No one is gonna read it but if you do then I hope it helps.
