Alternating led flasher with 555 ic

  • Dual alternate led flasher using 555 timer chip
    This circuit uses the 555's astable operating mode meaning that the circuit has no stable state hence 'astable'. The output continually switches state between hight and low.

    Blessings, i almost gave up. I have 50, ne555p ic's. I have been trying to get anything to work. Tried just about all the tutorials on youtube. The road has been long and tiresome. Today i drove to another state to aquire 4 different brand 555 ic's only to get there and be told that only 2 were available. And to make matters worse they were not even true 555 ic's but nte955m. I was told that they are just as good. I bought them reluctantly and drove home. Tired the first tutorial from yourtube l and nothing... came across this tutorial and book. The lights blinked..😲. They are blinking fast and i increase the capacitor and still blinking fast. Im happy that i atleast got it this far. Thank u again!

    Hello there.
    Lovely video you done here.
    This type of video help would be even better with a clear simple circuit coloured drawing of the wire and parts and how they and where they connect to each other and the + and - shown?
    This is just the type of flashing led set up I've been looking for to help me out of a problem of getting leds to flash on for 1 second then turn of for 2 seconds?
    I need this type of flash rate for the 2nd set of led lights on the amt/ert star trek ship enterprise models I am building!
    Their navigation leds have to flash for 1 second then turn off for 2 seconds then back on for 1 second and like that onwards?
    I can do the other running strobe 4 leds that the ship has which flash 1st a second already with a simple flashing led set up.
    But here's the thing on you set up here you got 2 leds flashing like I need but How do I do a set of 9 leds to flash together on for 1 second and off for 2 seconds onwards like that?
    Please can you send me a simple clear drawn out drawing of the circuit layout for 9 leds that will flash on for 1 second then off for 2 seconds onwards? The power needed and the right circuit parts needed?
    So all the values clearly written down for the circuit to work like that?
    Thank you so much in advance from a non-electronics models builder.

    Hello,
    How are you doing today?
    To answer my own question, I just finished building that circuit today.
    I am assuming, when circuit is applied power it comes on (high); green light, thus it switches off (low); red light.
    After doing some homework, I added a 0.001uF, 500V ceramic disc capacitor to pin 5 of the IC 555.
    I will now do the calculations to determine the time interval each light is off or no.
    Let me know.
    I look forward to hearing from you...

    And when i made it the blue LED blinks except the Red LED?

  • @trevortjes
    @trevortjes 9 лет назад +1

    my 100uF Cap only made the blue LED light up not even blink. Now I use a 10uF Cap and the duty cycle is not even. The blue LED is on for a short time and off for a ling time and the red LED is on for a long time and off for a short time. Any ideas?

    • @trevortjes
      @trevortjes 9 лет назад

      trevortjes Didn't notice your blinker also alternates without a duty cycle of 50%. Guess I have to find the right cap

    • @barnetpluscommittee238
      @barnetpluscommittee238 6 лет назад

      The 10 k resistor should be connected between the 100 uF capacitor and the 555 output (Pin 3) to give 50% duty cycle and reduce the current consumption by 4.5 mA (as the 1k resistor is pulled to ground by the discharge pin for 50% of the time).

    hi I just want to ask what may be the problem if the ic 555 only heats up and neither of the leds are lighted? thanks

  • @SoummajitBhadra
    @SoummajitBhadra 8 лет назад

    i think this is not gonna work! b'cz the pin 3 of the 555 ic will send a logic high or a logic low only any one at a time. Therefore whenever the output will be high, the pin 3 will light up both the led(s) simultaneously, as they are both connected in parallel with the output, voltage & current will go to both led(s) together.

    +Protronics99 I love the video! I would like your advice with my project. I need to send a welding machine a operational command via voltage. 0vcc = 0 output amps, 15v = 200 amps. This factory circuit works great, however I want to send a pulse command.
    If I build the circuit shown in your video and instead of powering led bulbs I would like to send a 50% duty cycle square wave message.
    So here's my question how would I wire a potentiometer to increase or decrease the pulse rate ( 1 hertz to 300hrz)?
    I know I can send a signal voltage into PIN 3 and have a signal out of PIN 3 at the same voltage then just use a POT on output of PIN 3 to change the "background" voltage to a percentage
    Example
    7v _____ _______
    | | | |
    __| |__2.5v__| |
    0v------------------------------------
    / -- variable----/ (in hrz)
    So the machine would give 150 amps then 75amps 50% duty cycle at a desired hertz.
    Thanks hope to hear from you soon.
