@True Cuckoo. Absolutely. That's why I became psychiatric music therapist. Seeing someone turning up not feeling so good, and hopefully getting them to leave with a smile on their face. Success, happiness achieved! And that inspires me to come home and work on my own music, JOY!💖💖💖
This is my favourite Keystep 37 intro video. I love the way you don’t spend too much time on being a ‘video manual’ - just as much as needed to show how you create the really cool music. You are actually making lovely music to showcase the keyboard’s capability rather than explaining every detail. Well done. Love it.
After a few days paying around with the keystep 37, found it quite difficult working it all out . This video gets a big thumbs up, really exploring what this thing can do. Can't thank you enough 👍
I literally ordered this after the first few mins of watching this video, you had some great little sequences going..that hydro synth sounds so good too. Subbed!
This is the only channel that ever made me buy a synth from just watching a video, the Peak. I’m going to brave watching this and see if it has the same effect.
I'm getting One 👊👊👊👊💪🔥🔥🔥🔥 I was into synth's when I was a kids. Had a JP-8000, MC-303, CS1X and a few other bits. Been wanting to get my 2 boys into it. As I've always been gutted I had to get rid of it, as needed the money and nowhere to turn 😭I was proper GUTTED 😞 watching you, and BoBeat's, has inspired me to get my ass in gear. Single parent and finding hard to sort it. Just ordered the volca FM, gonna get one if these controllers and hopefully can add some proper stuff as I go. I wanted the MC-707, but couldn't even afford the MC-101. Which was my second choice. So I've got what I could. Thanks for the inspiration Bro 👊💪🔥🙏👍
Nice one. Consider the stuff from the time you started out too - eg. Korg ER1 and the others in that family which are super hands on/sound great/under £200 most likely (I think/hope?!). Also MC303 itself might be cheap too. But the Korgs would be a bit more fun I think
Thanks for a great review/intro! Like you, I'm not a trained keyboard player, and your video really showed how this device could be really useful in my setup. Thanks again!
Just following up. Got a refurbished Keystep 37 on ebay, it came a week ago or so. It is wonderful! It's really upped my messing around with music game by around 350%. It really is a lovely piece of gear. Even got it to work with my Lyra-8. Thanks again for a great review.
beautiful musical and functional/teaching demo - the best one I've seen for the KeyStep 37 my GAS is at a peak now and my original KeyStep is going to have to take a back seat for a while :-) I already have strummy/chordy controllers (Omnichord 300, KordBot, and TheoryBoard) but this one is quite impressive - thanks again
I think you just sold me on this. I do not have any hardware yet. That's down the road as I learn. I am hoping I can work with some app synthesizer and drum boxes until that time comes. From what I've seen here and other videos, this should give me room to grow. Thank you.
Follow up. I finally got some used gear (Arturia Keystep 37/Microfreak, Maschine MK3/Jam and Roland TR6S/MC101) Now to learn how to get them to play! I will review this video again. Cheers.
i really enjoy your videos so much, showcasing not only ( for me boring technical) specs but more focusing the character and potential of the given gear by bringing it to live in a tasteful musical context which is very inspiring for me. at the moment i use this video as a radio play and listen to it every now and then ;-) because of the wonderful music and your pleasant voice. of course ace.
Just ordered one to control my also on the way Moog Werkstatt-01 and trusty Deepmind 12. Love my Launchkey 37 Mk3 but need CV. Great walk-through, always appreciate your enthusiasm and skills.
Damn! If I had not already bought it I would have been throwing money at the screen. Great musical breakdowns that Hydrasynth is really doing some work. Next question is when does the album come out!? 😁
You need help because you are CRAZY! To unleash so much info like this to the public could cause havoc! I'm glad I got here first so I could prepare everyone for the music I'm working on.
Thankyou for sharing this. The Strum function is a wicked feature. Would be nice if they updated the Pro to have this. Maybe that could be done via firmware. I do not own either currently considering if I would benefit from either this one or the Pro.
i got the keystep gen 1 aka white version and funny story i got the black version and returned back for the white version because its got a special vibe to its like it belongs in my studio and imo this is the best minikeys if you want to producer music bass, chords, beat repeats ...this thing does every thing I just record them all in my 8 banks kick, snare, hihats, and then move the knob and record the changes in real time in my daw or mpc
A have (another) probably basic question. The Keystep 37 obviously has great sequencer/arp modes, but can it also be used to play/record unquantized into a DAW without things being snapped to the grid? I guess I mostly need a midi controller keyboard for playing things on a DAW, but I'm really intrigued by the generative possibilities of the Keystep 37 so I'm thinking of choosing this (over something like a simple M-Audio Keystation 49). Can anyone help me with this? Ta.
Thank you for the great video, fantastic! I'll probably eventually get one of these to go alongside my original. I love hearing you enjoy yourself. 😊 I mean I can live without it but the screen is great. I love it when people say it can you give me more information please. And I'm often like have you heard of the internet you should try it sometime. Lmao 🤪
In keyboard play mode, can you arp the second synth? (or arp over a sequence on the same synth) On my minilogue XD when playing a seuqence i can freewheele over it in the same step mode so my timing is always correct which is really cool, i'm looking for the same technique with the keystep 37
i almost got something like this but i went with the akai fire. you an also play in scales and its a lot of fun. i let my 4 year old niece rock out and she sounded pretty good lol
Sweet, sweet video - as much fun as its predecessor for the original Keystep (an all-time fave YT video for me). And is that a TX7 the Hydrasynth is sitting on? Get that thing into the action!
Hi, loved your presentation! You seem to enjoy keystep 37 the most. I'm planning to buy a midi keyboard and really interested in this one(especially the strum feature) but I don't have any hardware synth or modules to control usinf keystep. I'm mainly gonna use it on DAW and VSTs. Would you recommend it using it just for VSTs n other plugin based synths? Thanks
Most definitely yes. Everything you see it doing here with hardware can equally apply to software, and there’s a USB port to easily power and connect data to a computer.
Hi, thank you for the great tutorial. A beginner's question : is it possible to use the Keystep functions (chord, arpeggiator) on a processed voice (using the TC Helicon perform VE for example) from the vocal processor's "midi in" to the Keystep's "midi out" ? Thanks you !
Does it have polyphonic aftertouch? Will the chord mode and arpeggiator conform to the scale you have set (play diatonically)? I checked the manual but I can’t find any information regarding either of these questions. Thanks in advance.
Great video and great keyboard but I just see it as an opportunity cos original Keysteps will be all over eBay so can get one for cheaps! Same applies to this keyboard when they release the Keystep 49...
When you go into chord mode, and you set a chord, can you then set a key/scale that the chords will get transposed to? Or is the key/scale mode completely separate from the chords? So for example, can I put the key step into Cm, then set the chord to Cm, and when I play a E flat it will play the major version of that chord?
Great video, great tunes, thank you! I’ve been lusting after those key leds on the Pro, but didn’t want it otherwise... so this is just perfect \:-D/ Also, TRS sync cable to restart DB Impact?? Awesome tip, many thanks for sharing! I wonder if the display shows tempo now?
NI CE JAM you got going here!! curious, what VST are you using in your Jam? I see the hardware synths, but im curious what VST you are triggering here as well,THANK YOU !!
Undeniably an essential item with huge possibilities. However, I am not keen on having to refer to the manual every time I need to do something other than just play the keys, and Arturia’s refusal to engage with iOS- instead insisting that the user own a pc or Mac- is incredibly frustrating in 2022. For these reasons it is not my go-to keyboard and is, in fact, little used. Sadly.
GREAT demo, you really show how inspiring this amazing thing is! Question: can a fullsized controller (ArtEssential 61) via MIDI in port access all the strum, scales etc. goodies? weird I know but just prefer full keys & five octaves

Thanks.
I ordered it today! I considered the Minilab, but it has only 25 keys.
weird question: microtuning possibilities? and ... whats the name of the module you have with all these stickers?
aphra cadabra Dont think KS37 supports microtuning although the Hydrasynth does. That’s a TX7 - doesn’t support microtuning although the TX81Z does!

It doesn't :( Just checked Molten Modular's video and he shows that this functionality is missing. Bugger.
Ah dang - Rings occurred to me as being an amazing thing for this potentially but didn’t get to try it yet
