    Question? In the Three Tier design, are the core devices given public IPs to reach the internet?

    • @imedita
      @imedita  Год назад +1

      In the three-tier network design, the core layer is responsible for high-speed switching and routing between distribution layer devices. It is not typically recommended to assign public IPs to core layer devices as they are considered to be critical network infrastructure and need to be protected from potential security threats that could arise from being directly exposed to the internet.
      Instead, public IP addresses are generally assigned to devices at the network edge, such as routers or firewalls, that provide a secure boundary between the internal network and the public internet. These edge devices may perform Network Address Translation (NAT) to map internal private IP addresses to public IP addresses for communication with the internet.
      Therefore, it is not common practice to give core devices public IPs to reach the internet in a three-tier design.

      @@imedita Thank you, Maybe I should look at your NAT video, but I would love to see a visual description of how a network actually gets to the web. One day when I'm a network engineer I will have to design systems to get to the web.

    can the core layer only use one core?

    • @imedita
      @imedita  10 месяцев назад

      Hi
      In the Cisco Three-Tier Hierarchical Model, the core layer can use a single core, but redundancy is recommended for high availability. The Cisco Two-Tier Hierarchical Model typically uses a single core as well, though redundancy can still be implemented for resilience.
