7/30/23: Billy Eppler speaks to the media following the trade that sent Max Scherzer to the Texas Rangers in exchange for minor league infielder Luisangel Acuña.
FIRE EPPLER, THEN BUCK THE SCHMUCK, THEN THE ENTIRE COACHING STAFF. Eppler is useless, cant find his way out of paper bag with both ends open. Worst GM since M Donald Grant.
Still. A Yankee GM. This team’s biggest problem is pitching and it’s depth. The Yankees, for all the things they do well, have never been known for their pitching development. They can come up with the occasional relief pitcher, but rely on trades and free agency for starters. This is unacceptable. It also pains me that their trades have been bolstering already deep positions in shortstop and catcher.
I actually really enjoyed Eppler’s comments here. Acknowledging they’ll have to dip into free agency next year, the desire to continue building the farm, not wanting to punt on seasons. I’m optimistic about this team and the future. Now they just need to get Stearns in there!
As a Yankees fan I was always envious of the fact the Mets knew pitching and developed pitching better than most teams and especially better than the Yankees. You can go back to the Mets under Hodges when you had Seaver, Koosman, Gentry, Ryan thru Gooden , Darling, Cone, Fernandez. So it's a bit mind boggling to see what happened to what was once their greatest strength.
Of that fearsome staff 5 years ago: Harvey, de Grom, Matz, Syndergaard, and Wheeler, only Wheeler is presently an effective MLB guy. A lot of physical problems just ballooned. And now, Diaz. What were the Mets to do differently?
You're right. It didn't work out with our last home raised staff, but we got new ones coming. 🙏 And tbh Peterson and Megill aren't done developing yet. Just saying
Mets are in full rebuild mode now and won’t contend in 2024. Anyone buying into what eppler said for 2024 are the same delusional met fans saying coming into 2023 the 2022 Mets won 101 games and we had nothing to worry about
These are the right moves, but I don't agree about holding players back until they are totally ready. The problem is that you can't tell. Billy Beane was a Bust at the Major League level even though they judged him ready. Lenny Dykstra wasn't supposed to be ready, but got a break when Mookie Wilson got hurt during practice and immediately contributed.
The organization still paying for the mess left behind since Terry Collins went out the door and Brodie sold the farm for Cano who is still getting money from the Mets without even getting an at bat. Would rather be a fringe contender while rebuilding the system instead of picking up bloated contracts every off season to compete with a team of expensive newcomers. Once the team has a good pipeline and a good scouting department leading to the draft, prospects become rookies become talented regulars and veterans who want to compete and succeed for the NY Mets with the occasional one or two free agents who will only compete a world series worthy contender in Queens
One thing is sure, this team, even when starts to win the WS or just to compete for the playoffs, fail without excuses, so, too me, it's not a news about these kind of decisions to trade. They spent really really bad Cohen's money without doing what we really needed and keping players like Vogelback who is not an MLB player. This team, in the next years, will be at the same rank of Pirates, Nats, Tigers and As' and nothing more. I'm really depressed about the Eppler's speach and I don't see a bright future even with Cohen.
#firebillyeppler tired of the response for putting a mediocre team. Then you trafe Max for a prospect. Typical mets getting excited for prospects when the goal is to win now
Really more BS and nonsense! You got one player a suspect/prospect and sent millions to Texas. How is this a good trade? This guy is smoking something wierd. 😳
Not sure what is smart about trading the best reliever for two infield prospects that we will not see for another 5 years if and then trade Max for another infield prospect and pay TX 35m??? I don't run baseball but can do better than that.
everything is"in between" with this dude no yes or no no decisiveness=passive=doesnt know how to make big decisions=doesnt know what he's doing.leave it to someone whos alpha and doesnt let things happen instead MAKES THINGS HAPPEN SMH.
Repurpose the front office please ..
"It's not a firesale......we're listening and the bar is high." So it's an expensive firesale.
Its a nicely curated vintage sale
His work days are numbered. I agree with him about signing mackey sasser to 500MM deal. I like his idea of free mackey sasser cards with tickets.
How can you justify paying all of max salary for next year . just stupid

Al Harazen
So many really bad moves on his part. Why is he still employed?

Count the "uhhs" "you knows" and "I thinks" - really confident and articulate guy. I totally believe in his ability to lead us to a ring. Nice. 👍
😂😂😂😂
I.m in my mid seventies was hoping to see another series seems i'll be dead before that happens.

Just has to be wiser instead of signing 2 year rental pitchers.
@@dereksavastano who else should they have signed then?

And 24 we'll have the best closer in game back. And quit blowing.....most of these late game losses.

Trading away all the pitching for hitting. Pitching wins championships
No it doesn’t
The pitching they have isn't cutting it. Have you followed the Mets at all this season?
Bring back scherezer and then trade him again. Confuse him. Then spin him round.
Trading away aging pitchers! Roberts is 36 and and Max is 39. I don’t have a problem
@@555crooked why sign scherzer in the first place?

2024 is going to be rough
Can’t WAIT to hear Mike Francesa take on this 🤣
Francesca said it would never happen so his word doesn’t mean much lol
@@joetamburello6292 My point exactly
37 million for a prospect. wow and thought 43 million was risky for a pitcher. max was a good pitcher in the rotation. horrible trade
why not get rid of another couple pitchers??? hey its not a fire sale right bruh?
How about get some younger pitchers with high upsides. This way we don't need to pay tons of money into older pitchers.
The perfect headline: “Gone to Texas”.

It’s about extending the window.
Stingy sellers with plans for 2024. I like it.
With a new GM, get the guy from Milwaukee
WRONG. dismantle. Keep only catcher and new young guys.
Pham and Verlander should bring in better returns
@@ericB3444you’d really trade Pete?
The price is high for a team that is nearly 20 games out of first. Dude is funny.
BRING BACK OMAR
Esta haciendo los mismo de este año buscó picher y no bateo ahora está cambiando los mejores por lo que no sirve
him and buck have one foot out the door!
Yea I don't really believe that. But whatever.... we'll see next year.
get rid of eppler. not bucj
LOL 🔥

0 - 162 🤪
This is the first one to be sent to another team.
who else thinks epplers best days are behind him?
Cashman Lite. And you Mets fans know how we Yankee fans feel about Ca$hman.
Hi
He can really lay down the BS lol
Go. Get. Sho.
I can do a better job than Eppler, and so many other Mets fans. If we are selling, we need to trade for young arms, not more infielders
Para eso mandenme ami no jodas se jodieron los mets
so far the mets are 50/50 at the deadline. they traded 1 good and 1 bad player.
Trevor Bauer incoming

Odds we still had chance then u trade Robertson and now Schertz, might as well trade Verlander , not watched mets watching yankees they not as stupid
