Go find every sock you own. Look in drawers, under beds, closets...and bring them to the livingroom. They did, and he had a garbage bag. He dumped the bucket and then said, put all your socks in the garbage bag. ( they freaked out, but did it). Then he said, everybody get in the car. I said nothing. We went shopping and everyone got new socks. When we got home he said. Today will be called...NEW SOCK SATURDAY! And then..." your feet need to last you 80 to 90 years. Your feet are important to you. We will do this every 6 months. Nothing feels as good as new socks. Don't get attached to your socks girls, there will always be cute socks". We did that every 6 months. My children are 38 and 42 years old. They do this with their families. Im 63. Hubby is 64. New Socks Saturday is one of our date days, every 6 months like clockwork.

When my husband and I downsized to a small house (our children are all adults now) I had more than 300 DVDs (really!) which “I couldn’t part with”. But I had to, so I forced myself to get rid of 100 or so. Better, but that’s still around 200 I still had. However, after watching lots of good decluttering videos, I have now gradually managed to whittle my DVD collection down to 10! Some would say that’s 10 too many, but I’m really proud of myself! And the ones I couldn’t bear to part with? Don’t miss them at all. We delude ourselves about what we really need to keep, I think - or at least I certainly do.

I literally just paused the video after seeing your small video collection....and walked the 10ft distance to my bedroom shelf..... I was able to let go of 8 videos, 5 CDs and a picture frame...in about 2 minutes! You are a great motivator!😃
I used to have an in-home daycare, and I assigned a color to each of the children as well. Even the one-year-olds knew which items belonged to whom. It was incredibly helpful!
When I was growing up, my mother assigned colors to each of my older sisters and myself. She sewed a tack of thread of the color on the label, inside collar, sole of a sock or waistband. To this day, we still consider them "our colors" and I have given gifts using the sister's color. ;)
I like baskets but I'm very visual so I prefer clear plastic/acrylic or wire storage. Shoe boxes are great too - for me they're perfect for tall things so I can see what's there.

We have a little plastic Chuck Norris that my husband had as a child. We hide him all over the house, like your Spidermen! Instead of Elf on a Shelf, we have Chuck on a shelf during Christmas haha. it's great to see that other families have fun too

Having a designated place for things makes it easier for others to cooperate and put things back in place. That's the main challenge because it is easy to clean for one person but maintaining the cleanliness and order by all makes it work.🤗🙏

I only have 2 kids and I'm overwhelmed! Thank you for the tips. I've been decluttering for a few weeks and I'm starting to feel some of the benefits. Gifted toys and kid's clothes are my weak spots.
Once you have the amount of toys and clothes for the kids that you want - use the one in, one out rule. (For each thing you keep, let one similar thing go) It keeps the clutter in check and you only keep your favorite things!
Awesome tips! I’m a mom of 4... we do the color codes for cups, toothbrushes, towels, rags, etc... we did the dots for years when our boys were moving through clothes quickly!

It looks like you have some really good workable systems for your family! The file drawers actually make a lot of sense - you know that the oldest least used stuff is in the bottom of the piles, most people don’t need to keep a lot of papers anyway, and it’s so easy to put stuff away that you actually do it. We have a traditional file cabinet but it’s big and inconvenient so I don’t use it as efficiently as I should.
When we moved in to our current home I knew I didn't want a traditional office space, so I used a large dresser my late husband bought me many years ago. It's ideal for my needs. Each drawer has a designated use (one for office supplies, one for household files, one drawer for taxes etc.) and the printer and a small lamp sit on top, along with a tray of printer paper. All of my bills are on auto pay, so there's no need for a desk. I am also not a file person! I use a sort of drawer method as well. My "file" system drives my husband crazy because he likes lots and lots of files micro organized. My brain doesn't work that way. Lol

I’m in the UK, we are still in partial lockdown and was looking for ways and things to cut down because I see more of it working from home, I didn’t realize how much stuff I had. Cool! We don't hear of other maillers much! The kids have their own bins in their room, but Brian's are in that cabinet, he's got his full shirt he's been working on, since it's so big I'm glad it fits in there!

Your feet are important to you...Nothing feels as good as new socks." Why put up with socks with holes or that sag, bunch up, or just don't fit right? Use them as a duster and then throw them out. Side-note: For knee-highs, I like Dr. Motion support socks ($10) in the spring/fall and Smart Wool ski socks ($22) in the winter. I now need to find ankle socks that I like for summer. One of my mantras is "you get what you pay for". The socks I like are not inexpensive, but they are made so well that in the long run, they wind up being less expensive than having to buy multiple substitutes.

that seems not very safe to have all your keys and your purse-presumably with your money and IDs-right by the front door, where a thief could just grab and go.

Mostly it's quite warm in Montana, but we cool down at night average is 40°F (4.4°C) to 55°F (12.8°C) 😊
