When I was in prison, people would have them as pets, we'd catch them at nights or very early in the morning, this one guy was fascinated with them and had 5 giant ones. The oldest was 8 years old. I was like what the hell. Lol I ended up getting one, its name was speedy so i kept it that name. Thing chilled like a dog, and ate plenty of good Haha. Tail was always bigger than its body

Yes, they do it for two reasons. 1. They eat their skin to supplement the nutrition they lost while shedding, plus a bonus meal. 2. Another reason why they eat it is to leave no trace for a predator to follow them. If a predator picked up with that helpful skin in the wild, goodbye gecko, lol. Helpful?
For new gecko owners: make sure your gecko has a moist hide to help make shedding a lot easier, and don’t use loose sand as substrate like in this video! I recommend eco earth, but paper towels or reptile carpet work too
This is probably a shed tank. Also reptile carpet is horrible for geckos, it's been proven to hold an insane amount of bacteria no matter how well you clean it, so towels are always better

Jen Serena i have my leopard gecko just on paper but you can also use repticarpet and different kinds of mats. as long as there isn’t any loose substrate in the cage i’m sure it’ll be fine
hey, just a tip, i wouldnt recommened using loose substrates like that used in the vid, the gecko could accidently eat it and it could go in his gut and he/she wouldnt be able to eat anything, geckos live in rocky areas, so i would recommened using substrates that arent loose ( i use reptile carpet)

The gecko eating his own skin reminds me of my sister’s cat who automatically ate all of her placentas after giving birth. They do it so predators won’t track them, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s also a way to recycle important vitamins and minerals that would otherwise go to waste.
They do it because it has calcium in it. Calcium is very important in their diet and so it’s good for them to eat their skin, especially for wild geckos.

The gecko eating his own skin reminds me of my sister’s cat who automatically ate all of her placentas after giving birth. They do it so predators won’t track them, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s also a way to recycle important vitamins and minerals that would otherwise go to waste.

Yeah... they do that.
They do it because it has calcium in it. Calcium is very important in their diet and so it’s good for them to eat their skin, especially for wild geckos.
