  • The coronavirus crisis is revealing that the powers that be of the European Union have learned nothing from the Eurocrisis.
They are currently betraying the interests of the majority of Europeans in the same way that they have done so in 2010 -- by failing to mobilize existing money and public financial instruments in the interests of the many. With their current decisions, they are jeopardizing public health, public goods and the interests of Europeans.
Every day at 19:00 CET switch on the television from the future!

It is very comforting to hear perspectives from people like Yanis, Zizek, and Chomsky during these times. @@imavileone7360 I'd twist this and say he rather promotes *accountable public tyrannies*. Neoliberals, on the other hand, (hypocritically) demand less state intervention, the world-order they envision only cares about capital freedoms (to buy, sell and trade globally), and local mobilization for them is limited to individual enterprise (which, within this framework, can only apply to some). So, back to the drawing board with you! Good man.

Watching this as a Brazilian, it saddens me, from 22:30. We are so fucked here. It's not simply the covid-19 crisis. We are having a serious political, working and financial crisis going on too. We are in the brink of a coup, supported by some far-right groups here, with the president taking part on weekly protests demanding the closure of our congress, among other things related to our past military dictatorship (which ruled the country from 1964 up to 1985).
We even had three different Health Ministers in 30 days, in the middle of the pandemic! The new minister comes from the military (as many other power-positions in this Bolsonaro government) and has no experience in Medicine/Health service whatsoever. Now they are supporting the usage of some remedies in public hospitals, despite scientists' concern about its efficacy and despite side effects.
Remember this: Brazil do need help from the rest of the world now. Not just health aid, but political aid for the opposition, economical aid and educational aid. :/

Alan De Anda Yeh, if everyone was rowing in the same direction, we wouldn't have the problem in the first place. We need to be realistic to get anything done. The rise of the "gig economy" has literally rendered strikes as we previously knew them useless. The workers in these environmemts have zero bargaining power. We need to figure out how to shift the balance. I looked into the Amason case referenced above... They publicly sacked the guy responsible for organising the strike and everyone went back to work. Of course they did, many of these people are living hand to mouth, zero savings. Its not an option to "join the strike" if you have hungry kids to feed.

One solutıon path could be to reorient the UN to become more representative of people and more capable of international level interventions. Few steps for that could be: (a) make UN agencies operate through a model of hybrid membership of governmental representatives and free-society representatives; (b) add few more UN orgs that are missing today such as 'Agency for Moral, Spiritual and Religious Peace' and 'Agency of Science, Technology and Servicing Collaboration'; (c) make monetary and informational contribution to UN mandatory on and enticing for corporations and entities passing certain thresholds or power and proliferation; (d) make relevant UN agencies have equal votes on matters having global consequences in a form of 'assemblies of agencies'; grant UN 'assemblies of agencies' more power over and presence for facilitating international programs of peace, growth and development.

Zizek doesn't fear right wing authoritarianism because it isn't the popular view in the West (its the most criticized). He is a critic of the accepted ideologies. Thus he hates communism but embraces it in order to take down Capitalism.
