You’re not spending “$2000 for the new Textured Display on the M4 iPad Pro”. It’s not a stand-alone add-on. You’re only paying an extra $100 or so to upgrade to that.
But yeah, $2000 does make a “compelling” case for buying Paperlike. 🤷‍♂️

My wife started using her M1 iPad Pro with Paperlike in January of 2022. She uses it a lot, and only recently replaced the original one because it was scratched and coming loose at the corners. Since there were 2 in the box this is a bargain.

They’re not making it more Mac like. We thought the same when they first added M1. We have to remember that the M naming is just marketing. The iPad Pro was always going to get “M1” since m1 was just the next gen X/Z chip.

People always say this and I already had apps that ran my M2 ad redline max, and the additional power was my main reason for getting the new 13 inch. You can already not only utilize but get maximum potential risk from these chips. I don’t get all the whining about the power going to waste, maybe whine about something more useful like background tasks and the files mess

Apple will focus on Accessibility features and AI in iPadOS plus the usual suspects of bug and security fixes and maybe new emojis and such like. Possible SM might get a new lick of paint with some animation effect that looks cool but does not change the functionality to be better.
In effect, the budget cheap iPads are the best ones and the new iPads are always excessively expensive unless you're an artist or creative and the device pays for itself.

I am in the same boat. I would really like to pick up the 13" iPad Pro, I am in fact waiting till WWDC to see what happens with iPadOS before moving forward. I feel that will determine my storage capacity, if it in fact gets more powerful software capabilities that could determine if I jump up to the 1TB option for more ram etc.
If nothing much happens with the iPad OS... We then will know for sure apple has no interest in making the iPad a more serious computer.

That’s like listening to a classical music lover describing Beats sound quality. This was informative, covering the improvements of all 3 devices reasonably quickly. You spoke to iPad users about expectations and use cases. You have the M4 chip, Tandem OLED and FACE ID, so this was an excellent update to the iPad. You were unapologetic about liking what you like. Nice job.

Thanks for the video, it is always nice to see the views of another iPad enthusiast. There do seem to be a lot of commenters saying that the iPad cannot replace the Mac, and in some respects that may be true, but everyone has a different use case. The company I work for (a multinational organisation) provide me with a Windows laptop (unfortunately), therefore as I do not need to get any serious work done for myself (besides a bit of personal admin) the iPad is a perfect modular computer. I can hook it up to a monitor, keyboard and mouse to make a computer; I can connect a gamepad to play great quality games; I can use the Apple Pencil to sketch or take notes in meetings; I can use an e-reading app to read books; I can use News+ to read magazines. It has been a long time since I was at University, but if one of the M-series iPads had existed when I was there it would have been perfect for my needs (taking notes, writing essays and searching online libraries). 🐬

I’ve been using iPad Pros for my daily computer since the 2018 12.9” model and this upgrade with the thinner chassis and improvements to the keyboard make it the best Apple product I’ve ever owned - and that goes back to the late 1980’s when I first started using a Mac.

I’ve been a Mac user since the Macintosh appeared in around 1984. Through the years as the Mac Os evolved Macs were criticized for not having all the software that were available for PCs or they were limited in comparison when compared with their PC counterparts. Comparing Mac Os and iPad Os is like comparing apples and oranges….Pippins vs Granny Smiths you like your choice and it satisfies your taste.
I’ve been looking at the iPad Pro M4 and for what I do nowadays on the computer the iPad is the apple for me. Whether people prefer iPads over MacBooks is a personal choice. Not everyone needs the power of the power user’s Macs. I just like the features of the iPad lately and go the Apple Store daily comparing them both. Pippin or Granny Smith?
    Choose wisely 😂

"Dolphin" lol I upgraded from the 2018 iPad pro 11" to the new m4 13". The ram, rotate, hover, squeeze, screen was enough incentive to upgrade. Heck, I wish my desktop drawing display had rotate. The only pen on the market that has rotate besides the apple pencil pro is a now discontinued Wacom pen that came out in 2010 with caveats. The art pen is hard to find and additionally you can probably expect the nibs to be harder to find as well since it used different nibs. It's not far-fetched to see some issues with drivers and support moving forward.

Coming from the 2018 iPad Pro 12.9 inch, I find the M4 13 inch iPad Pro to be noticeably more responsive in most tasks. Most notably, the response of the Pencil Pro in handwriting is better enough that I can now take cursive notes where previously I mostly needed to write in block script. But moving the cursor around to edit text also seems more fluid. In fact, when I went into Best Buy to look at the new M4 iPad Pros, I wasn’t expecting to like them enough to upgrade from the 2018 model, which still meets all my needs. I think Apple is slowly evolving the iPad into a device that is capable of doing the exact same things a computer does, but in a slightly different way. Maybe the iPads will one day run software that is not more similar to iOS but more to macOS and utilizes the touchscreen and has its software optimized for touch. Apple is now known to approach things slowly and carefully, so perhaps that is true to the iPad development too, adding features carefully designed to be useful for the iPad while also making it more attractive to buy by adding features no-one really asked for but are still useful.

1TB does not indicate that someone knows what they’re doing more than 512GB. Knowing what they are doing is not determined by how much storage they want in a device. My reasoning they only allow it on 1TB or 2TB models is purely economical. They are taking a loss on the nano-texture while subsidizing that loss with storage profits. I suspect if they allowed that screen on base 256GB models, they’d have to charge $300 or more on it.

I am considering getting the 11inch model. I would make full use of its power for video editing. My only concern is with PWM. Flickering from OLED screen affects my eyes. In saying that I have the iPhone 14 Pro Max and above 30% brightness I don’t really notice it due to DCI dimming. Do think the same applies to this iPad?

macOS on iPad would be as disappointing as the Surface Pro. I already have a desktop so the iPad is a great sidekick. If you don’t already have a computer then just go for a MacBook.

The iPad does not replace the laptop, because there is no clipboard, the files app is very basic, real multitasking does not exist and the stage manager is complicated and clumsy. Apple's pro apps like FCP and Logic are extremely basic with no external plugins, and no keyboard shortcuts. No Xcode. We don't have true desktop browsers, very basic safari compared to the Mac. The current iPad Pro is very expensive and has very poor software. Multiple audios at the same time, another serious flaw. Facts are facts.

But every day user who just picks it up and doesn’t tend to do anything with the pencil before. Probably doesn’t need to get it. I got the M4 11 inch upgraded from the M1 13 inch iPad Pro. Because of the new pens and I decided I wanted something lighter and smaller to draw with. iPad Pro 13 inches too big to take around.

I have the 2020 iPad pro (one before the M1) and I am eagerly waiting to see what the new iPadOS is going to be like before thinking of upgrading to the M4, if there isn't much functionality change then its the same iPad as what I have just a bit faster, but if there's functionality like MacOS built into iPadOS then its time to upgrade, I wanted to have my iPad be my only computer but that functionality just isn't there yet and I have to use either my Surface Pro 8 or my 2018 Mac Mini for some stuff

I had the 2020 as well, and upgraded to the latest because my iPad internal screen connection was dying (screen would go black randomly, but still functional if connected to external monitor). Other than switching from 12.9” to 11” I can’t tell a difference between the two on the day to day after a week of use. Daily use case of email, safari, numbers and sketching using Procreate. As of today, I’m fine with it, wouldn’t have minded if my old iPad lasted another year or three. Have a PC for 3D modeling or large spreadsheets and the desktop features of some apps.

Not if you need to do desktop tasks, iPadOS is very very poor at this. Wait for WWDC if Apple lock AI into M4 chips also as that's the big news coming then.

🐬 I upgraded to a 13” 2TB Nano iPP with Keyboard and Pencil from: a 13” first-gen iPP, a 2015 12” MacBook, and a 2015 iMac (basically making the M3 iPP my only Apple computer). Why? Because in 2017, when Apple went to the proprietary file system on macOS, it broke compatibility with all third-party accessibility software. As a user with partial Blindness, iPadOS is a far more accessible operating system than has been macOS since 2017. Yes, iPadOS has issues, as have all early edition operating systems, the complaints of others are valid. But macOS doesn’t work for me or likely many users with disabilities for whom macOS is inaccessible.

Trust me I use the M2 iPad and M3 MacBook daily but with the restrictions and limitations of iPad OS you still need a computer. 🐬Fernando is by far my favourite tech RUclipsr, especially for iPad content. I've got a M1 iPad Pro and I use it as a complimentary device to my M1 iMac (the iPad is my portable machine). And I take it everywhere, even for work so I can mark up 100 page reports rather than have to print and carry around all that paper from meeting to meeting. Or I use it to scribble notes down, again instead of having to carry around so much paper. And of course I use it as a content viewing machine. The Tandem OLED definitely has me intrigued. My only concern is that Apple does not offer any kind of top-up to the trade-in value with including the Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil now that the older accessories are no longer supported with the newer iPad Pro. And in Canada, the whole package is very very expensive. Just don't know if it's worth it to upgrade but the FOMO is real and I know I'd use the machine and appreciate all the changes (especially that screen and the thinner, lighter footprint overall) but yeah, if there was trade in credit for the Magic Keyboard and Pencil in addition to what we get for our iPads, then I'd be heading to the Apple Store right now to upgrade.
