Very fascinating build video! Been thinking of one day getting an SMT10 & modifying one. This will be one of my references! Thanks! Love the event videos btw too.
Great info man. Thanks! But why shortened the wheelbase? Also I found one of this axial grave digger stock in new condition for sale at 250 euros and i was wondering if it's worth the buy? I have never own a rc monster truck like this but i like the grave digger theme. Does it come with the hardware to just add another servo at the back for 4ws or do i need extra shopping for parts to make it 4ws? Thank you for any good info. Thumbs up!
Great looking trucks. My SMT-10 is actually the opposite it's been turned in to one heck of a crawling trail beast and the soft compound J concert tribute tires are actually really good for crawling and trailing and hold on to your hula hoops because of the tires the truck can tread water (It floats) with half of the tires sticking out of the water.
I've seen some other SMT10 crawlers and yeah, if you go the way you did it can be a capable crawler. At its heart it's really just a wraith with a slightly different driveline and lighter cage. Have fun with that rig, thanks for watching
Question... what driveshafts are you guys using for if you have the RH Designs short wheelbase kit? I was hoping to purchase the MIP X-Duty’s, but RH said they are too long. Does MIP have something else that would work? Or is there an aftermarket option that’s just as good that would work? Thanks, love the channel! Come racing in Chicago sometime soon!
great video, guys. I have a question, I'm wanting to get something better than the usual walmart stuff but I can't spend a fortune. it's mostly gonna be used for bashing and possibly light competition. what would you recommend? also, love the copy of MTM2 in the background!
The SMT10 is the easy answer, but to make it fun you'd want a little bit more power. A 17t motor would wake it up, as would the included 16t gearing. My recommendation for a fun bash truck would just be a BIGFOOT stampede. You can have a lot of fun with those for relatively low cost
They all get expensive fast. Just depends on your pockets and patience.. It's fun though. You definitely want other people around that also play around. By yourself will get boring fast.
More great info for an SMT10, thanks. In your opinion, for a backyard brushless basher (non racer) build, would you say buy the RTR and upgrade, or start with the chassis and axles and build it up piece by piece. Thanks again!
My axle hub carrier are screws are stripped out i use fuel line clamps to keep it together now lol ..how do the vanquish ones work won't the plastic axle housing still strip out or do I need beef tubes also I'm alittle confused 🤔
I copied your sport mod set up and I can’t get the front end to come up like my stock clod does. What’s the minimum I need to do to get throttle wheelies out of the smt10? Was considering copying your pro mod set up, but curious if you had any other budget options. Tnx man. I’m a big bigsquid/trigger king fan!
Given that you can get HV Servos now that can handle 3s, would that negate the need for a external BEC? or do you need to run one for a different reason?
Thanks for the shock idea, i was thinking of purchasing shorter prior to hearing that. Do you know if any of the racers have swapped out the diffs for the overdrive units? I am currently building an SMT 10 truck too but I used under drive diffs thinking i could get better acceleration for some of these types of track designs you guys run. I got a tekin pro 4 4600kv set up with a castle Esc not sure if i should have gone the over drive route.
Hey ButtonsMcBroom you can see Jeremy's answer to David L's comment below concerning OD. As for underdrive, if you have sway bars on the front torque twist is pretty minimal, even in my pro mod so I don't think I'd recommend UD. Unless you were running super short courses I think taking the gearing off the top end would actively hurt you.
Some say the underdrive have better gear mesh. More teeth together at that point.. I don't know personally but that is what i've read. I've always used the stock gearing.
when you bought the rig up in front of the camera then i can hear you,as soon as you step back i couldn't hear you again. thought i'd just let you know.
Every Axial I've owned with AR60's the rear ring and pinion are the first to go.. I put an SSD center diamond on my SMT within a couple packs. The stock gears actually hold up in that axle too.. I run a Mamba X w/2850kv on 3s. I also run metal trans, gears and MIP drive shafts. I learned my lesson first with a Wraith the a Yeti. I think I practically gave the Yeti away. I couldn't keep gears in the rear for one battery. There is a lot better stuff out now though it probably wouldn't be a problem..
A few of us have been thinking about using those center diamond axles. With you recommendation that makes me want to try them even more! Luckily, most of us have had luck with the spider gears.
I did most of those conversions to my smt10 but I was wondering since I’m new to mt’s if you would want want the front or rear suspension to be more stiff?
Being new to all of this I have a stampede it's fun but I like the idea of the solid axel my question though is it hard to build these up? for being new at it
Yeah I agree the SMT10 is easy to build and a great truck. You couldn't give me a Clodbuster though.. I know a couple people that have them and you can't drive over a toothpick without busting an axle. They both shelved theirs..
Thanks for these videos! Very informative! I’m currently building a SMT10 to hopefully do some pro mod racing and your videos have been very helpful. I’m curious what C-Hubs and lockouts you went with. I know you mentioned you are running aluminum parts there but didn’t get into specifics of brands. I see a few people make them including Vanquish and SSD, trying to figure out if any particular one works better than the others. Thanks!
i have SMT10 and got the jconsepts tribute wheels, but i got the rc4wd bnh monster truck tires for it in steed of the jays. well the problem is im running the 25mm spacer from the rims and i still have contact with the lower links. does any one make a longer spacer for the wheels? pluss i got a 5700kv brushless ( castle creations ) and the sidewinder3 esc, what do the think would be the best gearing for the truck?
You will still have contact sometimes with the lower mounts but what we do is set your servo input on the radio to the spot where there is no bumping. JConcepts does make a wider offset hex though, introduced on their Ranger and Dragon wheels. I'm sure if you sent them an e-mail you could get a set of them. Those should clear no problem. As for gearing, It'd leave it at a 16t pinion if you are using a stock spur. Maaaaybe 17t. Thanks and good luck
The firestorms are better for trucks that are a bit slower as because of the size they tend to want to roll over on themselves in high-bite, hard-corning situations. They are nice tires though.
David L I can't speak for others, but I do run overdrive gears front and rear in my Taurus sport mod that debuted last month. They will increase speed, but with that and a 17t pinion the motor gets hot in a few minutes. Fine for racing, but wouldn't recommend them if you're planning to bash around the yard for 15-20min at a time.
No one has talked about it but I'm pretty sure a few guys are doing this. As Jeremy said, its a great idea for racing but you better be careful if you plan to bash it for any amount of time as it will get even hotter! Thanks for watcing
i love this but i couldn't hear you. you need to turn your volume up,or talk a little louder i had my volume all the way up on my computer and i could not hear you.
The stock wheelbase on the SMT10 is actually 13.9", sorry I mis-spoke!
Awesome Content! Did you dye those Tribute wheels?
Being a monster guy for years these tech vids have opened my eyes to new things. Thanks
Glad you are getting ideas, thanks for watching

You got me motivated to create a prototype to share in the future. Thank you cheers on the builds!

Thank You. Been wanting see these bad boys. Make sure get right stuff.
I haven't had the best of luck with hot racing stuff. Hope you have better luck
Great video and tips keep up the good work.
great info. thanks man!

Big Apple UB I’m trying to decide the same thing.

Which do you prefer more the axial or the losi chassis?

Cool channel, I subbed. Love that Rotten Apple. Bash on my friend:)
Thanks!
Do you guys run spools in any of your axles? Would you recommend running one in the rear?
Very nice

That's just a matter of opinion though and I've never tried it. Only one way you can find it!
Thanks, I think I will try out both. Keeping in mind about what Jeremy Mark answered about motor temps.
Some say the underdrive have better gear mesh. More teeth together at that point.. I don't know personally but that is what i've read. I've always used the stock gearing.
Stock axle gears hold up? Also do you guys run metal internal axle tubes?
when you bought the rig up in front of the camera then i can hear you,as soon as you step back i couldn't hear you again. thought i'd just let you know.
What wheel base kit did you use on the sport-mod ? the 12.9 or the 12.5 ?
Just a little correction, it comes with a 27 turn motor, not 17 ;)
Nice video, great info ;)

I have broken the main part of the axle housing before the hub and knuckles.
these are great!
thanks Jeremiah
Being new to all of this I have a stampede it's fun but I like the idea of the solid axel my question though is it hard to build these up? for being new at it
It's easy to start with an SMT10 and go from there. Clods are a bit more difficult

I can’t find a 2s 100c pro match battery on their site
Can anyone help? With 4 wheel steer what do you regards toe-in on the front and rear. +front?
+ or - at the rear OR neutral even?

I have a combo of Vanquish and SSD stuff. You can't go wrong with either, really
Trigger King thanks for the reply. Any other axle mods that are preferred/necessary for pro-mod trucks?
Ok thank you
Parts upgrade list would of been nice
What compound renegades?. Stock foams
What is the largest brushless motor you are allowed to run ?
Look at the rules
Where did get the front sway bar?
When you say 6.5 motor, is that a 2 or 4 pole?....if 4pole is it 540 or 550 can?
Most of us are using 4 pole 540 can motors. The 550 size are usually just too much for these trucks.
i have SMT10 and got the jconsepts tribute wheels, but i got the rc4wd bnh monster truck tires for it in steed of the jays. well the problem is im running the 25mm spacer from the rims and i still have contact with the lower links. does any one make a longer spacer for the wheels? pluss i got a 5700kv brushless ( castle creations ) and the sidewinder3 esc, what do the think would be the best gearing for the truck?

thank you for getting back with me
What is your opinion on the jconcepts firestorm tires?
The firestorms are better for trucks that are a bit slower as because of the size they tend to want to roll over on themselves in high-bite, hard-corning situations. They are nice tires though.
what color is your fools gold truck painted with?
It's Tamiya Gold!
do you guys run over drive gears in your axles?
David L I can't speak for others, but I do run overdrive gears front and rear in my Taurus sport mod that debuted last month. They will increase speed, but with that and a 17t pinion the motor gets hot in a few minutes. what shocks are those?
Oh yeah...
18t pinion with what spur?
How much did you pay for your pro mod truck
I dunno, I probably have 700ish in it now?
Sorry if I was bothering you I just really want one
What kind of championship are you talking about ?!
He's talking about the trigger King series, Idiot
i love this but i couldn't hear you. you need to turn your volume up,or talk a little louder i had my volume all the way up on my computer and i could not hear you.
Will work on this for next time, thanks Andrew
It's too bad that we can barely hear you.
the audio is so quiet I can't hear you
Need to speak up or better mic.
Will you want to sell me one of your pro mod trucks
Mine aren't for sale, sorry.
