    The lack of the Automatic HighBeam and Adaptive Headlight 24-Led Unit(BladeScan) in US cars is such a bummer. In other markets this one feature elevates these car above others.

    The RC’s base LED headlights with high beam assist earned a good rating from the IIHS in their testing, while the Triple Beam LED headlamps were rated marginal. The base headlights provide adequate illumination at 340 feet in the right lane of a straightaway, while the triple beam lights only illuminate the road about 216 feet, which is dismal considering that those lights are LED’s and most halogen headlights can light at least that far. The additional illumination of the base lights allows a driver traveling 60 mph to spot an obstacle in the road about 1.6 seconds earlier. Considering it takes about 2 seconds to react and apply the brake ( after which time the car would travel an additional 176 feet), then about another 150 feet to stop, the good illumination of the base lights (vs the poor illumination of the Triple Beam lights) can be the difference between a crash and avoiding a collision. I would definitely just stick with the base headlights and save the extra money because the purpose of headlights is to provide adequate illumination, not just to be a styling statement. Crappy headlights are one of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to cars.

    • @john958
      @john958 3 года назад

      You’re absolutely right. The IS triple beams only rated acceptable, while the IS base lights rated good. The base low beams illuminate the straightaway at 465 feet (further than most cars high beams), while the triple beams only illuminate about 280 feet.

    Currently have an '19 RC. Inquired at my local Lexus about the stacked triple beam LED and comes out to be $6K which was I thought was insane. So now currently waiting for an after market someone might potentially be selling on Ebay. It's gonna be quite a wait but the regular LED headlights does the job for the time being.

    The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) rates headlights as G (good), A (acceptable), M (marginal) and P (poor). The 2019 Lexus RX 350 with the older Bi-LED headlights gets an acceptable rating but the new triple beam headlights only get a marginal rating. Maybe part of that is because the Bi-LED headlights are curve-adaptable (move left and right when turning) whereas the triple beams do not and Bi-LED has longer throw distance. Anyway, I agree that the triple beams look nicer but better lighting is more important to me than looks and even the better BI-LED version are only acceptable, not even good!

    • @KirkKreifels
      @KirkKreifels  4 года назад

      On the 2020 Rx the triple beams can have the afs. That would help it's rating I think.

    • @mellowjammer
      @mellowjammer 4 года назад

      @@KirkKreifels I know, but for some reason all the 2020's on the lots (around here) seem to have the non-afs triple beams. IIHS hasn't rated the afs ones yet which are curve adaptable. I can see those getting better left and right visibility but still probably not the same straight line throw distance of the Bi-LEDs. We'll have to wait and see. The triple beams DO look much nicer and kind of fit the aggresive front-end look of the vehicle though. I can see why most people would want them. I noticed recently when car shopping that Lexus doesn't provide a lot of technical information on their vehicles. I'm guessing the typical Lexus shopper is not looking into the specific details of the vehicle, they're just saying "I like the pretty red one". My salesperson told me nobody ever asked as many questions about the car as I did.
