You have multi frequency Metal Detectors now thats have a great deal of better performance than single frequency VLF machines in highly mineralized ground on salt water beaches. I have seen videos from Australia where prospecters with Minelab GPX XXXX also brings with them a Nokta Makro the Legend with the 6" coil in their backpack to find small specks where the large coils on the Minelab is too difficult to use around bushes etc.....

You sre more likely to get frost bit than snake bit here, last night it was 18° as in 14° below freezing!! .
Also what if a detector had a high voltage pulse circuit, capable of searching with 5-10 or even 60 watts? Requiring approximately 48v batteries wiuld it make a better detector, given the search coil is proper and up to the task,?

With metal targets the more energy in the more energy out.

What i was thinking about trying is putting about 6-8 coils about that size . On a hoop or oval. Getting the parts 3D printed and either connect the coils in series, parallel, or series parallel to get the proper specs overall . I'm surprised at the power these machines use, i was expecting much more, like 200 miliamps while on a large chunk of iron. Like 5-10 x more , and while on this subject, what if a detector used about 60-72v at about 100-150 ma pulses or much higher. With the with the coil pulling near 1amp , using a battery say 1.5-2ah and about 14 lipo cells in series, basically 52v nominal,, 42,v to 58.8v range,so 60v or less, with a power supply boosting that to say, 100v (98-102v) using capacitive discharge , or something maybe use a microcontroller to see the current draw when pulsed, and get a comparison between the two, with metals present. And without and program a tone between the two or lack of tone without metal, to be completely silent witout metal. Snd possibly with lots of testing. The difference between types of metals with assigned tone ranges. Not saying i could do it. I have enough difficulty programming a clock! I would also really like to have two coils in one, say a 12" coil, with a 2" 3" or 4-6" coil that can be seitched between instantly. To be about close as possible to having two detectors, and possibly have a program that is switching between the two wile swinging over the target area. Even concentric elliptical coils, a large 16" x 32" , with ba 5" x 11" in the crnter , measurements are out of the air, im figuring the small coils beng 1/3 to 1/2 the large. With both having the same approximate DC resistance , with the small coil possibly getting a bit of carbon fiber ribbon between layers of windings to fight capacitance.
( Possibly). I guess my question is would this possibly work? Could it be a good detector? As good as a machine built by a big company or possibly better than some. The difference was i want to include a small pocket size o scope. Use ut to catch the most faint of targets . Something like the diy O-scope kits. Pick up a gold flake a gnat had smuggledbin in its lunch box! Crazy idea i know , but i can't afford to buy a detector. I wish youba awesome day, as well as everyone else!!!

A company has a mine detector that puts out a 2us pulse at 100 volts, this is used to find the firing pin on buried landmines.
