Yay !! Skinks are my favorite types of lizards. They're so smart and curious. I've managed to mostly tame some of the ones that live wild in my yard. There are a few that will take insects from my hand and a few that will crawl on my arm. If I'm sitting outside reading anx don't notice them they will bump my foot until I go get food for them. They should be coming out of brumation any minute now.
I have a fire skink. I absolutely adore "her" I just deemed her a girl bc she has the features like a female from the research I have done. I found her right before Christmas at a local pet shop that I know sells captive bred animals. I was thrilled to find her. I'm in the process of making her an upgraded enclosure. She goes in spirts on whether she wants to show herself or be in hiding. I keep her in my room, since that is where I spend the majority of my time. Sometimes she will sit on her hide and watch me and the other animals. It's quite comical seeing her head pop up over her flowers. I too do fake plants in her enclosure. I am horrible at keeping indoor plants alive. Not to mention, she loves moving them around as she burrows. Even if I were good at keeping them alive, she would destroy them. I can get her to tong feed on occasion. But for the most part she wants it in her dish. She always manages to get food and calcium all over her face. She just looks at me like she's proud of the mess she made. I had decided I wanted one after seeing videos of Roku. They are just so pretty. I named her Nornik, pronounced Nor-knee-ick. It means burrower in Czech. It's sad that people tend to get rid of them bc they never come out or claim that they are too much work. If you think a fire skink is too much work, please don't have pets.
Great video! My partner and I have a blue tongue named Sweet Potato and an Emerald Tree Skink named Verde. Verde is the joy of my life, and I could not recommend the species more! Such a fun, interactive, playful lizard. Skinks as a whole are amazing and I would love to get any that you’ve shown here (but only CB or rehomed!)
My Peters Banded Skinks eat from my hand. They've never bitten me, but 3of4 of my leopard gecko's have bitten me. As of yet breeding Peters is a huge challenge. I find my Peters more curpuscular, but that might be the way they've trained me. As for their diet, they truly are not picky. High end cat food, any live insect and even crested gecko diet. The crested gecko diet was an accident but they ate it better than my cresties. Truly a delightful species if we could figure out how to get them to mate in captivity, I would be so happy. All of my animals are "rescues" from others, but my Gargoyle gecko and my Peters Banded are my favorite. This comment has gone on too long, but every comment is helpful for your channel. Thanks for the great content.
I just got a fire skink the other day!! Her name is Bowie and she is an absolute angel. While I don't entirely know her behavior or personality yet, she is super gentle and actually amazing with handling. She loves my hoodie pockets and my jackets, as well as soft blankets! So excited to give her a bioactive enclosure in my reptile room once her quarantine is over and get to truly discover her personality:) fire skinks are my favorite type of skink, hell they are one of if not my favorite reptile in general and I am so blessed to have found her, I'd been researching in hopes of finding one at a local shop or expo and I finally did. Pretty bad timing due me preparing to take in a ball python this weekend but I'm okay with pushing that back a few more months or so
I would love to get a pair of emerald tree skinks and try my hand at breeding. They're wonderful little guys who seem to adapt well to captivity, and I think they're going to get very popular in the coming years, so establishing captive breeding seems like a fair trade off for probably having to purchase wild caught.
I am really wanting a blue so bad. They are just so cool. I don't have any money to support you buy I can put some comments on here and hopefully youtube will push the video more
I wanted a blue tongue for 8 years and last October I finally got one it was worth the wait. If you get an Indonesian species alot of them are wild caught but are cheaper. The Australian species specifically the Northern which is most common in the pet trade are captive bred but more expensive.
One thing I learned from this video is that of course I got the weird blue tongue skink, Jackie almost never burrows during the day. He used to fully burrow when he went to bed for the night but now that he's older Jackie partially burrows, just sleeps in a hide, on top of the dirt on just sticks his head in the dirt 😅
Bailey I agree a fore skink is really cool . You definitely enjoy it when you get one. They look amazing and they don't get has big has the blues what is a good thing .
Hello ,could you please do a video for beginners on African fat tailed gecko and supplements. I have searched your channel but not sure what video you have that fits this? Thank you 🙏❤️
I have one skink...a pink tongue skink. I love her to pieces but she is a picky eater and I always worry about her eating enough...complete opposite of a blue tongue lol.
@@JessicasAnimalFriends I've never had a blue tongue but from what I can tell it's definitely the case. Luckily my Ruby girl (I don't know her sex for sure) was already a year when I got her. I've read that they are pretty hardy once they get to that age.
See my pink tongue will eat everything I offer her . But the male is pickly he will only eat set things what u fine it really odd . Both of them was only baby's when I got them so u don't understand why they are both ao different when it comes to eating..
@@JPsPetNation very interesting. I actually fed mine critical care for a while because the vet was concerned about her size. Despite feeding it to her in a syringe she did enjoy it lol.
My leopard gecko ran up to the top of my head and jumped off onto my kitchen counter and hid under the microwave. That was the first time I ever held him haha
Maybe next vet visit for a checkup for the 3 Skinks they can confirm Gender? Are Skinks a harder species to identify what gender they are? I dont know anything other than they're super cute!
Skinks are a challenge to identify gender unless you have a male and female in front of you. The physical characteristics is subtle. I would not trust probing to a veterinarian. My experience, veterinarians know a little about many species. Probing is a skill that I don't want my kids practiced on. I had a sweet snake probed by a trusted vet, that caused her to become very defensive afterwords. Took many months to regain her trust, for no benefit. I don't breed so gender was not important
@@LuckyStone888 they really are a pain to sex . noamlly you would go off the Males having a larger and more triangular head than the females . They also have a thicker tail base, than females. But again it is not always that easy and it depends on the type you sre sexing
I have and love my Peter banded skinks, I am a real scientist and if I can breed them, I will study the babies growth for 3 yrs and show people how to do a real study correctly, I just got done yesterday talking to someone on Facebook on if they should get a Peter banded skink or a Blue tongue, I explained if you have no intention of breeding then you should go with a blue tongue till peters are more captive bread, this way the peters are going to more places that will breed them and limit the ones taken from the wild. But I just love mine, the reaction from most my animals always seem different then what others say about the species, it shows that they have individual personalities and the handlers also matter
I love skinks. Something about the long body and stubby little legs speaks to me on a spiritual level.
Oh I agree I think it makes them look really cute ..

Love skinks I had one years ago I just don't remember the exact species of skink he was
I saved my wild caught skink from a school ground where they were often killed by kids being curious. 😢
Awesome video
I have a fire skink myself but she has eye problems from time to time does this happen with roku

Fire skink is so pretty. That’s the one I woukd get if getting a skink but I woukd want to hold it
I can’t decide what kind of skink I want haha

The banded skinks at petco had mbd and were impacted

I'm in love with the Naruto names
Great video 😍 Side note: Roku is beautiful and you demonstrated perfectly how easy it is to use They/them pronouns just saying 👀 haha
Literally so easy to use they them pronouns
Is it okay for a peters banded skink to live in coconut coir
I believe it holds too much humidity for them
But yours look amazing
Why did you move Roku to your bedroom?
I installed two racks and a few reptiles were moved onto them, same with Shukaku :)
