I remember this story about Buddha...There was a businessman who had a son and he wanted his son to help him with business but his son went serving Buddha and the business got so furious with Buddha for supposedly "brainwashing" his son making him join his preaching...
One day he went to see Buddha angrily...As he was walking with anger, he was still thinking of the insulting words in the back of his mind which he was about to say to Buddha...And when he reached the place where Buddha was giving his preachings, he got so upset and angry that he couldn't find any words to say to Buddha but instead spat on Buddha's face....
All his disciples were shocked and angry with the way the man behaved towards Buddha...But couldn't say anything as Buddha was there...Buddha's reaction was precious...He smiled at the man and his smile was so bright that it made the man more furious than he was before, and his face turned so red and he said to himself "if I stay here one more minute, I am going to explode in anger, so it's better I leave..."
By the time the man walked back home, it was already dinner time...And he couldn't eat and turned restless and kept thinking about Buddha's reaction and as he was thinking about Buddha, his anger started to dissipate...And as soon as his anger completely vanished, he started feeling ashamed of his own actions...And he was amazed to the reaction of Buddha...And began to reaction that Buddha never did anything wrong to him...
And waited impatiently to walk back to Buddha early in the morning so he could apologise to him...He didn't sleep for the whole night long and as soon as morning came, he walked back where Buddha was giving his discourse...He was the first man to arrive there early in the morning, and sat waiting for Buddha to appear....
And when Buddha arrived, he threw himself at the feet of Buddha and began to beg for forgiveness....He said "I feel so ashamed of my action...O Enlightened One, please forgive me..." With that, Buddha asked "What have you done as such for me to forgive you?"
The man replied: "Without thinking, yesterday I came here and spat on your face...It was me! Please forgive me 🙏🙏🙏"
Buddha then answered: "But that man you are talking about was long gone...He is not here anymore...What I see in front of me is a different person...You are a different person and yesterday it was someone else...So there is nothing to forgive about...."
When a person says bad thing to you, just keep your calm, and no matter how disrespectful they might have behaved towards you, if you keep your calm and don't give them the reaction they wanted to have from you, boundaries will be set on their own... Don't let people dump their waste on you... It's you who decides to react and not react...There will be some people who will dump their anger and frustration on you but you just don't give them any reaction...And when you have to reply, reply calmly...Show them you aren't angry nor are you going to insult them or humiliate them they way they did to you...
Forgive them and move on...And besides, if they behave in such a bad way, they are only exposing themselves in a way and other people will definitely see what kind of a person they are...
