The company you've assembled there is true Succession War-era philosophy: don't overspecialize and be prepared for anything.
All that's missing - if you really want to cover all the bases - is a couple of VTOLs. Sure, they have a terrible lifespan, but the ones with LRMs or gauss rifles can be good hit-and-run harassers, so long as they take off before anybody shoots back.

I have found a good starter lance in a Crusader, a Phoenix Hawk, a Wolverine and a Jenner. This is a nice mix of playstyles and the player can see what works best for them. This combo can handle most intro games and is a great place to start. The crusader gives them a chance to play at close and long range. The PHX lets them play with jumping and heat management. The WVR is a good tough mech that does little damage. The Jenner lets them play with speed. I use this lance to let them find their style and enjoy.

Thunderbolt, Wolverine, Shadowhawk and Panther. Runs lighter in tonnage, but the Wolverine, Shadowhawk and Panther all have similar movement profiles and overlapping weapon ranges allowing them to outmaneuver and focus enemy mechs one by one while still keeping each other covered while the Thunderbolt lays down the law with long range surpressing fire.

Salute for a outstanding presentation! I now have a understanding of the concepts of how the different units aspects blend together to form a comprehensive team.

That's a good line up with one exception. I only take the blunder bolt if there is nothing else I can take. The blunder bolt is the only thing I would change in the line up

I'm glad that you didn't say at any point that you were making a force for a balanced/fair fight. war is not fair or balanced! I'm kinda tired of hearing people complain that 'the battle wasn't fair'. I'm sure many leaders from our worlds history had the same complaint. but that's where you get epic tales like "300". nobody would care if both sides had 300 men!

That is a solid lance. If your ever getting transports. I would pick Heavy Hover APCs, Maxims or Karnov. If your picking the hover APC's your able to consider taking a Drillson or Condor as escorts to back the Stinger. Being able to be flexible with a starting lance is valuable.

I'm currently in the process of starting a new and I'm attempting to devise my force composition. It's certainly not an easy task.
This is a great entry and I like the idea of building to cover all yours bases, so to speak.

Many thanks for your thoughts about lancebuilding. I would really appreciate to see a podcast about your experiences with introtech games and what to take into concideration for a balanced lance in a mech vs. mech environment. :)

I get to play some interesting combined arms scenarios soon with the MRC, and I'm excited to do some real infantry and battle armor stuff in interesting scenarios.
The game takes place in 3152, but none of my units are later than Late Republic (like just shy of the Blackout) era. I was allowed 3-7 units max, with a max BV2 of 9750. We're not allowed VTOLs, but one guy did take a WiGE, so that should be cool.

Hey Fritz, do you have a favourite ammo type for any given situation?

What's the cheapest war game to play. I play 40k and started bolt action last year and was blown away at how much cheaper it was.

Battlemaster's are really great a fighting heavies...but not assaults
The stalker may not have hands but at the end of the day...that's not it's job...and a Battlemaster only has 1 hand with the other being your PPC
The Stalker covers your range much better
I like your Tbolt, good choice
Blackjack is not hard enough ...either armour, speed or hitting and since mediums are so vague for actual uses....medium should be Wolverine
Stinger is also too soft...not fast enough for the armour...weapons are kind of iffy on any light but for general purpose a Valkyrie would be better
For noobs to learn to play with and actually get a chance to make some mistakes and still have a fight
    Stalker
    Tbolt
    Wolverine
    Valkyrie

Meh. The Stalker is great, but the Battlemaster is faster and has better heat management. You don't want to be standing back and plinking with the PPC for very long. You want to get up in their business so your MLs and SRM-6 can do their job.
And while I love the Blackjack, I think the Vindicator would be a better general purpose medium. The Wolverine is always solid. I'm a T-Bolt ride or die, so no notes there. But for a light, I'd probably ditch the Stinger for a real light 'mech, like a Commando to start capitalizing on all the holes you've been poking in armor.

When you say "local New York community," I don't suppose you mean western NY? Trying to find Battletech nearby

Agree with most of your philosophy, but I've never been a fan of the Blackjack. 4 points of damage at long range each turn is hardly worth it's BV. Better to go with a Whitworth for comparable BV, speed and armor, and it's got a much better long range punch. And its 250,000 c-bills cheaper!

I agree. The Whitworth is a good medium fire support mech. Although, "plinking" the enemy to nigh madness with AC2's at unreachable ranges is quite entertaining.
