We have a General similar to yours with full hard doors and the same RBO rack. I have considered a front rack from Polaris to distribute the weight and keep the center of gravity lower. Locking the rear gate is important as you mentioned. Thank you for the great videos. We enjoy watching your adventure and promoting an alternative to a SUV.
Very cool. We’ve contemplated the front rack, might be able to get a couple bags of the roof and distribute the weight a little as you mentioned. But we’d probably just wind up carrying more stuff 😆
These kind of videos are great..my load out is always changing and it's very informative to see what others are bringing. Been switching out gear for the high speed, light weight backpacking stuff when I can. Expensive and not as comfortable but not as heavy. Awesome thanks!
Great to hear!!! We’re trying to lighten some stuff up too… taking the same approach with backpacking gear where we can. We’d like to lose 40 lbs / 3-4 cu ft of gear for the next trip. We either need to get some stuff off the roof or have a better way to secure it up there. Especially with clothing & sleeping bags for four people, space fills up fast.
Thanks for sharing the load out. It gave me some ideas to think about. This is where a Polaris roof rack would come in handy. Maybe Razorback will make one
For sure!!! We found one company that makes a full replacement aluminum roof - but it’s over $4k 😣 I’m seriously thinking how we could fabricate our own - something simple and light that could hold a few gear bags is all we need.
You would never know what's needed or not needed until you go out there, good videoi suspect you have fine tuned you're loadout, I like the toiled idea I think my kids would appreciate that as well
People (usually who don’t have kids) make fun of us a lot for over-landing with that toilet but it’s a game changer. Our kids absolutely love it and haven’t had a single accident on these trips. We are constantly refining things though… thanks for the great comment!
WOW I thought I brought a lot of stuff ! hahaha jk, I know kids makes you basically double everything you bring haha My little girl hasnt come anywhere with me yet, just my dog (Wendell) but I can't wait to bring my kid with me. You guys are living the dream. Cheers from NB, CAN.
Yeah… more stuff than we wanted to! We’re working on lightening the load for next time a little and maybe adding a little better rooftop storage location for some light gear like clothing and camp chairs. Anyone who has kids understand how much stuff you need to haul everywhere! But it’s awesome having them along 😀
We hope it helps! We learned a lot from this trip 😀 Right now we are watching vids on backpacking food to try to shed about 60 lbs off for the next one
My family and I are looking to go ride out there as well. I am also from WI and was wondering what permits you had to obtain, other than a trail permit, if any to ride out there legally. Thank you
Awesome! We cover a lot of it in this video: ruclips.net/video/kGVydyMS8J0/видео.html You need the BHNF permit and if you want to ride on the roads (you do), you need to contact one of the county treasurers or drop in by one of the courthouses when you get there to obtain a temporary road permit. I recommend calling ahead most places you can take care of it over the phone and they’ll email you your stuff. Some more info here too: gfp.sd.gov/atv/
Thanks! Depends on the trail and how we’re driving. 120-150 miles seems to be the norm for trail riding for us on more aggressive trails. We get a little better on the highway or when it’s flat and we’re not loaded up.
Have you and the wife tried sleeping in hammocks and then getting a smaller tent for the kids? Does your porta potty go in the main tent or do you have a separate pop-up tent for it? We also started overlanding this year (we live in Custer) and although, it's only my wife and I, this is what I've come up with for gear: ruclips.net/p/PLYsQdFz1LSkcp0KRf9IO-MlwhfNnHdniM
Hey! So sorry we didn’t respond - your comment was held for moderation and we didn’t see it. Watched your videos - that Rmax holds a lot of gear! Super cool, love how light you guys can travel! So we keep the potty in the main tent. It’s kind of my wife’s deal so whatever makes her happy… if we are Overlanding I wander off somewhere with a shovel 😆 we have never slept in the hammock. They seem to be getting really popular and they have fully enclosed ones now too. Look slick and I like how light and compact they were. We definitely need to cut some weight and space. I don’t think our youngest would be quite ready to sleep in a different tent but running two smaller tents is something we’ve thought about. We used to live in Custer - just for six months or so but we loved it there. Looks like you got a great spot! We’re looking forward to our next trip out there! -A
That’s a good question lol. It was back ordered forever and then we didn’t get the notification they were in stock again. Always planned on adding one. We actually finally got one about a week ago so it’s on there now.
@@TheNorthwoodsFamily No brother I can't offer any advice on this one, I don't have a SxS, just amazed at the amount of gear. I have only travelled by motorcycle and off road weight is the enemy. I think you mentioned about things you didn't use so start there. I systematic consider every single thing I'm adding to my bike to decide if I need it or want it. The wants take a back seat to the needs. For you, happy family and if you can fit it on without worrying about an axle, why not bring it?
We thought about it but, we couldn’t find a good enough mount to secure our satellite dish to our roll bar. We were actually debating just carrying along a washing machine for all the clothes we’d have to wash because our three year old doesn’t care much for pooping in the woods, but we figured the potty would be a little easier. Thanks for the parenting advice though! Maybe we’ll figure it out next trip!!! 😉👍
Thanks for the comment! 🙏🏼 We’re just a family that makes videos of our adventures. When we started 1 year ago, we knew absolutely NOTHING about RUclips. Over the course of the year we have experimented with how we do videos, and like anyone else have adapted and learned what works and what doesn’t. That is one of the things we don’t really do anymore, we don’t do intro/stings anymore and we’ve worked on our video editing skills too to try to make our videos more fun and enjoyable to watch. So - thanks for the feedback. Feel free to go watch our more recent videos we’ve been producing and drop your feedback in the comment section on them! We’re always looking for feedback and how to improve 👍

Great videos!! We are now going to buy a Polaris Ranger and explore!
Thanks!!! A SxS opens the door to so many adventures…

Hello, Looks like good times. My question is what brand is the box rack with spare? Thanks.
Thanks. It’s is a Razorback Offroad Expedition Rack. We love it!

You need a trailer like mine. Build one, and they will come...
We’ve thought about building one!

Looking good! How many Miles or Hours do you get on a full tank of gas loaded?
Thanks! Depends on the trail and how we’re driving. 120-150 miles seems to be the norm for trail riding for us on more aggressive trails. We get a little better on the highway or when it’s flat and we’re not loaded up.
Where did you get that small shovel and how is it mounted?
Farm and Fleet - the mount is a tool mount that goes with the cargo rack from Razorback Offroad.
@@TheNorthwoodsFamily Thanks for information. Just booked a trip to Black Hills bc of your videos. Thanks for the awesome videos.

It is a lot! We unpacked and repacked it everyday but we were cool when it was hot and warm when it was cold :) Any tips on how to improve?

The potty potty is ridiculous, maybe next time take a 60 inch flat screen
